cheeba0228 -> write and read the right rant (7/29/2004 8:25:07 PM)

O.k. this may seem a but weird for this forum, but hey why not being weird is normal here right? Anyway I wanted to know and hear whats on peoples minds. kind of like a generic journal without having to surf everyones profiles to find it out. So I'll start it as a reply to this post. Get ready everyone here is the return of the rant. So grab your soapboxes and get ready here si your rant.

cheeba0228 -> RE: write and read the right rant (7/29/2004 8:41:52 PM)

O.k. I'll kick this thing off by telling you about a discussion I was having with a local sub not on the board but we met for lunch one day. I ordered her the chicken ceasar salad and myself a nice fruit plate and we split a ice cream sundae afterwards. While we talked we discussed how people who pose as Dom's and subs hurt in more ways than just disappointing. I mean would we all be as skeptical of people if the fakes didnt burn us all. They comeon looking for a fantasy to fulfill and thinking that those of us who live this life are soooo lucky and all we can think is that they are fucking things up so much worse for the rest of us by not just being themselves. So there thats my first topic now on to my next.
I was listening to the radio today and because i live in Detroit it was all about the DNC (Democratic National Convention) Now I'm not big into politics, i wouldnt even consider myself democratic or republican. I know what I believe in and thats about all. I dont conform to either side. But anyways like I was saying I was listening to the radio and the Reverend Al Sharpton came on. For those of you who dont know who he is consider yourself privliged. But he started talking about Gore winning the popular vote and losing the election. I mean c'mon its been 4 years can we please stop beating the horse its fucking dead already. You lost get over it. Then he goes into 40 acres and a Mule. I about crashed the car when he said "...we fought and fought and never got our 40 acres and I havent seen any mule either! But we're going to ride this donkey all the way to the house!!" I can only assume he meant the white house. And if he's so desperate for his 40 acres he's fleeced enough of the minority populations, but if he still insists I say we give him 40 acres of swampland in the middle of Fla. so he can help with the vote counting down there. Now I'm not racist, mind you but seriously. Is he the best role model for young people to follow?? I mean this is the Democratic party the "other white meat" political party. Now again I'm not really into politics but I'd think that they could book someone else to speak other than this arrogant loud mouth asshole. Are the Democrats really that hard up?

Oh well thats my rant for today if you like it check back for more later on. If you didnt like it I dont really care it wasnt put up here for you to like just to read and if your at this point then i guess it did its job.

He lost the wrong states, but the majority vote was for him.

PRESIDENT EV States Won Vote % Votes

BUSH 271 30 48% 50,456,169

GORE 266 21 48% 50,996,116

So, it would appear that the majority of voters in the US did in fact vote for Gore.

Here is where you can find out how the president is actually chosen.

Thats what I said he won the popular vote but lost the election thank you for backing up my points. Yes he did win the popular vote and for some reason the horse is now continuing to be beaten. Thank you for proving that point as well.

cheeba0228 -> RE: write and read the right rant (7/29/2004 9:22:09 PM)

the president is chosen through and electoral college I know you dont need to give me links to sites thank you very much. However I think you also missed the topic, its wasnt about the loss of Al gore it was about the ignorance of Al Sharpton or do you back him as well?

Estring -> RE: write and read the right rant (7/29/2004 11:22:21 PM)

The only reason Al Sharpton gets any attention in the Democratic Party is because he is black.

dixiedumpling -> RE: write and read the right rant (7/30/2004 12:21:15 AM)

Why even have those conventions anyway? They already know who they're going to choose.

Give some of that attention to Barack Obama and I think the Dems would be in much better stead. That's a man who's going somewhere, for the good of EVERYONE, regardless of race, religion, economic standing or party affiliation. He wow'd me.

That said, I read the transcript of Sharpton's speech, and I didn't find terribly much fault with it. I heard clips of it broadcast, and I think a lot of his message gets lost in the telling. His presentation is over the top, imnsho.

cheeba0228 -> RE: write and read the right rant (7/30/2004 7:31:43 AM)

I agree

cheeba0228 -> RE: write and read the right rant (7/30/2004 7:40:26 AM)

If thats true then why have him speak to a room full of white people? I mean if your trying to stop racism is picking a man to speak only because he is black really the right thing to do. If you want a high profile black Democrat I can think of several better options than The good ol Rev.

cheeba0228 -> RE: write and read the right rant (7/30/2004 7:48:33 AM)

I find his numbers a bit off. First when he said "A million black votes in Florida cast but not counted." First check out the census bureau about 14% of Florida is black and check out the population its 6 Million. Out of that 6 only 4 1/2 are registered voters. Do the Math at most its only 630,000 votes a far cry from a Million. Not to mention thats if every single black person in the state of Florida voted for Gore. Those are some numbers I find hard to believe. If the black population went with the rest of the state they were split. which mean only 315,000 votes. Even further from the 1 million. I find fault in his numbers, and his delivery, and his choice of words. Not in his message. But if you really want someone to blame for the debacle blame the rich white population of Florida. Who somehow was the only state Run by a majority rich white population that couldnt get it right.

I am glad I read the rest of the thread before posting, because that is exactly what I was going to say. Obama is the kind of politician I could see myself not ignoring.

Someone wrote that during Obama's speech, the camera focused in on Jesse Jackson's face and it looked as if her was thinking, "I don't remember passing the torch."

Yours,
Taggard

My best agrument is to use the logic of my oponent with another object. If it is aburd or not verifies the logic. Thank you, cheeba0228 for starting it.

Estring,

See Jon Stewarts immitation of John "monotone" Kerry. At least Al Sharpton looks like he might conceivably be alive.

There is no statute of limitations on injustice. Grover Clevland was robbed![:)]

I live in Massachsetts. I get traffic tie ups and a big target painted on my back because of the Demicans. MzSuz, SherriA, and topcat get the traffic and the big target next moth because of the Republicrats.:)

dixiedumpling,

The only reason we still have conventions is because the ballon lobby has boith parties by the balls and is not affraid to twist.[:)] (I forgot what board this was. That is not a good thing!)

cheeba2008,
I agree about have a speaker speak for purely racist reasons to combat racism is silly. (It is like the gay mayor of Providence saying gay people are normal but behind him were two guys in dresses.)

OK, I ranted, now to told I'm a heartless SOB spawn of Satan and Hitler's homosexual trist in Hell.

Estring -> RE: write and read the right rant (7/30/2004 5:07:15 PM)

It's because Al Sharpton would throw a fit if he weren't allowed to speak. He had continually threatened to do it. And the Dems, being so preoccupied with race, couldn't have him accusing them of being racist could they? Trust me, Jesse Jackson is not happy that Reverend Al has stolen his spotlight. But he will bite his tongue and keep quiet.

Because drinking oneself into a puddle at home gets boring after a while.

Plus, how else can you hit on future interns?

I haven't been in the US long enough to have paid much attention to how American politics works, and since I can't vote I've had little interest in becoming invested in the process (until this year, because the current occupant of the white house scares the fuck outta me, not just for the US, but for the entire world).

Growing up in Canada I used to watch the conventions. It was rarely a "done deal", iirc. There were a series of votes, with the person receiving the least dropped off the ballot (along with any who chose to drop out) after each one. Alliances formed and reformed, with candidates who dropped out bringing the bulk of their supporters into the camp of whoever they had formed an alliance with. I remember some conventions taking several rounds of voting to declare a leader, and not really being sure who was going to win until the final vote. Does this not happen in American politics? Is it always pretty much decided well before the actual voting takes place?

jillwfsub4blkdom -> RE: write and read the right rant (7/30/2004 9:39:52 PM)

Obama is something else that is for sure. Just made me think that what if Kerry gets elected that we would have to wait 8 years before we could elect Obama for president.

i believe i heard that Sharpton was asked to speak because he was a presidential nominee. That was also the reason his speech was during prime time.

What i find extremely irrititating during the campaigning process is the political shows on certain major cable stations which are extremely slanted towards one party or another. Seems that so many of the questions are so dang biased.

Just wanted to thank you all for making this a successful thread and here's to hoping we can keep it going.

Al Sharpton is a Presidential nominee in his mind only.
