OMG.. Love it!  Bunnies and Rocky Horror Picture show.   Shock Entertainment value.  Think this does apply to people making Uber anything posts at times online here.  It compares very much to what happens here.   It does cause the stir at times and people end up making post after posts on those threads.

Look at me, Look at me... I'm the most extreme thing you've seen since Alligator Skin Covered Cheeze Graters that have been blessed in Goats blood by Satanic Monks living in the dark caves of Arizona.

I don't really see a lot as extreme. I just balance a sense of stewardship with what I can "do."

Just because I can, does not mean I *should*.

The Star Trek reference suddenly puts me in mind of Klingon sex, lol.  Talk about "Uber"...    At least one television show has writers that seem to understand a broken bone does not always mean incompatibility. Of course they also had medical staff in easy reach who could repair all those nasty little injuries by waving a little flashing light over it and spouting technical jargon..  I wonder if they got a lot of hate mail about those episodes from the fine folks who brought us the letters "SSC" (not that I have a problem with SSC, but I do wonder if people who get into rants about it here would do such things).  I can't wait for the show Heroes to start its next season.  I just love the idea of a girl who can heal any injury and even come back from the dead.. *drools*.

I'm really loving all the Bunny Videos today too.  Too bad we have to chill out on the Bunnies.  These posts might end up multiplying like rabbits, and Mod(whoever) will be taking a carrot stick to us.

We are living life dangerously close on the edge right now.

OK, I swear at times I feel as lost as two peckered Billy Goat in a Pig Circus.

I'm stuck somewhere in the middle of this debate, of playing it safe and not playing it so safe.

I think some people have what I call Safety Overkill and then there are those that are clueless about the risks involved to begin with.   Either extreme can screw things up if you let it.

I'm one of those people that walks in the middle ground of Debates and threads like this.  Why?  Because I know niether side of the extreme will or can humanly win.

OK, I can be Uber at times and I have my Uber moments.  I also have very light (anything but Uber) moments as well.

There are times when I've taken risks and times when I don't.  I try to apply common sense and understanding of my partner and myself.  Communication!

God lord... some people do pop into the boards and are all Inflated as Hell.. basically Bragging about how much of a (insert label) they are.   Actually, I have yet to see somebody Brag about what an Uber Switch they are.  It's probally happened and I missed it, or it did not stand out well enough for me to remember it.

There are moments, when I wonder to myself.  Am I really extreme or not?  Some days on this message board I'm feeling really BDSM light.  Other Days, I'm thinking to myself, Dang I can't be the only one who's into this at this level? Can I be?

The reality is, it all depends upon what activitity or aspect.   Everybody tends to specialize or has a focus upon specific aspects at times.   For Instance, I know Resident Sadist is really into Cages.  I'm certain everybody will agree with this.  Now, cages for some people are extreme and for others it's no big deal.  La De Dah...  OK, so he's an Uber Cager!  He shared a lot of things about cages.  Other people made honest posts to that thread as well.   It was a positive and constructive thread for the most part on Cages.   Now, I'm certain he takes pride in what he does.

We all should take pride in the things we specialize or have a focus upon.  There are a number of people on here, that I know I can turn to for advice in specific areas, if I ever so need it or desire it.  At least somebody who's willing to talk about the subject at length... and not piss themselves and run off and hide from me and treat me like I'm some Evil freak of nature.

So what, some chest thumping does occur at times.  For you Ladies, you love to stick out your Tits and show off things as well.

Now, if I read a POST that has Chest Thumping tone to it.  I try to look past that for some form of real substance.  OK, if I find no substance to a Persons OP and it's a lot of Uber Bragging going on.   I'll roll my eyes, and mumble fucking wanker under my breath.

Again, I'm one of those people.  That well frankly is niether on the Far Right nor Far Right of Debates on threads like this.  I'm somewhere Stuck in the middle.   I'm certain, I'm not the only one?  Am I?

I've been noticing a trend over the last several months on the boards here. We've got "ubers" coming out of the woodwork. Uber Masters, Uber Dominants, Uber Subs and Slaves, Uber Sadists, Uber Masochists. Everyone look at me!!!! I am one badass mo' fo'!!! Are you all paying attention?????

We all play harder than everyone else. We are waaaaayyyyy more extreme than you could ever hope to be. Safety? Who needs to think about that shit? Common sense? Who needs it? Fuck all of that...that's for pussies. You just gotta get out there and live. Like Nike says "Just do it". Throw all caution to the wind and find the most extreme person you can....nope, you don't have to know anything about them. Make sure you jump right in there with both feet and do things that most folks would consider insane. See, that's what proves how "real" you are. Those "other" people....the pussies...well we all know they're lesser...chicken shits that they are.

Added bonus, if you're on the Top end of the spectrum and you are an Uber....you will have a flock of google eyed starlets following you around like panting and drooling puppy dogs. After all, you're their validation...their "proof" of just how "real" they are.

Instead of quietly just doing what you do...and being who you are...you need the whole world to know. You need to use derogatory, demeaning and condescending words to make everyone else know how much better you are, how much more extreme, how much more "real".

The cock strutting and grandstanding is comical to watch. It's quite a grand show. Unfortunately though there is a sad aspect to it too. Some people come here looking for information and answers. I'm sure that a lot of them see the show and walk away thinking they just don't make the cut.

The strutting and the threads started solely for the purpose of giving unasked advice as though the person posting/starting the thread has reached the pinnacle of life and their relationship and thus is here to dispel their wisdom is both boring and funny. All I can think is, "see you in five years...."

FR to OP

I do agree that the obnoxious "ubers", as you put it, have been coming out in force lately... but honestly, I find it no more annoying than the "uber-safety"s that we have plenty of here always:  those that constantly, thread after thread, no matter what topic, act like any action or idea brought up will maim or kill or permanently traumatize someone.

In both extremes, it strikes me as people just plain making desperate attempts at feeling special.

I got accused of being an "uber" a lot in my younger years, less so these days.

It's something that's always existed, most of them die out, some of them get groupies and fans.  I have seen a few notable new faces poke their heads out lately though.

But is laughing at ubers any better than being uber itself?

In terms of what?  Are posts designed knock down a bunch of blow-hards with clay feet as bad as those that set them up in the first place?  Yes and no, I suppose.  Both are designed to get attention.  Both are designed to place the person posting on what they consider to be a more 'even' playing field in what they know to be as a highly competitive market for respect, among a group of people that all claim their very awareness of the "pecking order" is a part of their core nature.  Can anyone claiming to be "uber" expect to be taken seriously about the claim?  Probably not.  But if they don't make the claim how can they justify the self-delusion they are trying to teach you something?  And if no one knocks them down, how will they learn anything?  Can anyone knocking them down claim the infallability to judge what is or is not "uber?" Probably not, but if they don't how will anyone respect them for not claiming to be "uber?"

Undoubtedly there are some people who can tell stories that make this conversation far more relevent, or even important.  I have not been here long enough to claim or judge, one way or the other.  But as many of us have already admitted, in that great thread by LaTigresse, the conflict attracts us.  Once in a while someone makes a great point.  That makes it all worthwhile to me.

A thought on the word "level"...

I think there are "levels" of play.  I think most people would agree that a single tail is more extreme than a clothespin, and so of a higher "level".  Similarly, sticking needles in people is more extreme again.  There's a little continum going on there.  Where all the activities get placed on that line is up for discussion (is scat more, or less, extreme than needles?) and probably subjective (for me, less, for others, more).  But the general principle still stands, you can say "X is more extreme than Y" and have people bradly generally agree with you.

I think therefore, it's perfectly fine to say, "I am a fairly heavy player, I like X,Y and Z".  These being "higher level" activities than certain others.  It doesn't mean you don't *also* like the clothespin.

There is, on the flip side, nothing wrong with saying, "I love that you love blood play, but that's way too out there for me, I'm a much less heavy player than you."   There is no value judgement either on you as a person, or as a player, for making that statement.  Because you have decided where on that contimum of play you fall, does not make you any better or worse than someone who falls somewhere else.

It just means that you're probably not as compatible for a play relationship as people who fall in a completely different place to you.  Possibly.

I think we can talk of "levels" of play, sadsism, masochism, dominance, submission etc and not attach value judgements to those "levels".  I think many people do do this.  They say, "I like *** play" and it's just a statement about them, and not about anyone who doesn't.  They don't imply that if you don't like *** play, you aren't as *good* as them, or you are inferior, just different.

I think we just need to be a bit more grown up about it.

Ivy, who is curious about eels, is forced to draw a line at drawing blood, is turned on by scat, and has "eating prawns" as a hard limit.
