Status: offline 		Still waiting for anyone to present a list of first time US presidential candidates who already had direct hands on experience leading a country, dictating foreign policy, commander in chief of military operation in a war, young enough to be hip, old enough to be vastly more experienced, appealing to all voters on all issues, guaranteed to make the rest of the world like us...oh yeah, and with a good haircut.

Status: offline 		There is no viable candidate against whom most of the same cluster of charges can't be leveled.  Too old, too young, too different, too status quo....

I'm still waiting for the real other shoe to drop with Obama.

Status: offline 		Frankly, I don't care how many houses his wife has bought for him. What bothers me about the whole "McCain house" flap is that he didn't KNOW how many homes he has. This guy doaesn't know how his own personal economy is, and you're thinking of handing over the keys to our already Bush-maimed economy to him? This (and the $5 million is rich comment) is evidence that he's either out of touch with reality regaurding what it takes to survive in America these days, or that at 77, he's really starting to lose his focus due to age.

I'll bet you Biden is prepared.. I bet he double checked to see what real estate he has in his portfolio. LOL

Be as snide, and disengenous as you like. I have great faith, in what I've seen so far, of the Obama campaign to come out smelling like a rose, while McCain seems to be walking around with clown shoes on that have bullseyes printed on the top of each. God help him if/when the media stops giving McCain the easy ride he's had so far. Virtually no questions have been asked of him about his affairs, his involvement with the Keating scandal, and his outright shitty voting record re: vets.

Perhaps nothing has come of the Keating 5 stuff, because it has been tried, handled, vetted, and even the prosecutor stated that McCain had done nothing wrong.  You do realize that McCain was the only Republican in that group?  So either your theory about Democrats being moral and upstanding is faulty, or you choose to ignore their actions.

I suppose you didn't hear the entire remark about the $5 million, or you are the one being dishonest about what was said.  But by all means please continue to focus on it, as McCain stated that it was goingto be distorted in the very next sentence.  I would much rather go with the position that nobody should be overly taxed, than the position of people making  over $250k a year are evil and need to be punished for being successful.  You do realize that if you start taxing saving and investments, you are essentially preventing those that want to become "rich" from doing so?

I am not even going to get into the inane argument about him not being sure about how many houses he and his wife owned. I understand that folks owning investment properties is somehow evil to those that wish to engage in class warfare, but not knowing how many properties are owned by his wifes investments (off the top of his head) doesn't seem to be a valid argument, especially since they have kept their financial dealings seperate.

All I want is to know that the top 2% is paying their fare share, into a system that has allowed them to become so wealthy.

How does the old economic thought experiment go? Look into a materinity ward where there's row upon row of newborns, with no tags or ID on them. Great potential, but only 2 out of a hundred will become "rich." Now design a tax sytem that's fair to everyone in that room.

The republican system is to let the 2 rich kids keep everything, and expect the other 98 to work that much harder, to support the entire system, including the rich kids who will pay nothing. (Or at least nothing compared to what their income will be.) The other 98 kids are fed a load of BS, and told that they shouldn't expect the 2 rich kids to kick in, because that will help the lower income kids when they become rich. Nevermind that statistically, they never will.

Define fair, as in your use "their fair share".  If every American paid 10% of their income into taxes would that be fair?  Or are we talking about how much each person makes as a judgement of what is fair?  You know the old argument but he is keeping a million dollars after taxes, and I am only keeping fifty thousand after taxes, it's not fair that he has more than me.

To use your example of a person that came from very modest means... it is kind of strange to assume the odds of Barrack and Michelle being the 2 people out of a hundred to now be making $4 million a year, no?  Doesn't this suggest that there is something else to becoming rich than, government redistributing the money?

Close those fucking loopholes, that too many use to avoid taxes, that's one thing I'd like to see. That'd go a long way to making things more fair, in my mind.

I wouldn't mind seeing those loopholes closed.  I am completely for a flat tax, with some allowed deductions to determine an adjusted gross income.

To answer your first question, if the top 2% stopped paying all of their taxes, we would be fucked.
