Someone once told me that a fit sub/slave and a fit Master/Dominant is a healthy sub/slave and a healthy Master/Dominant. generally I believe in excersise and keeping reasonably fit. It doeas tend to keep people emotionally and psychologically healthy/happy too. However I know too many people who for medical reasons are no longer able to maintain a top class fitness program. Neets and I are looking into a few activitiesd which will increase out health and aid the weight loss program we have. I've discovered that there are Tai Chi classes designed for people with Osteoarthritis as well as programs for Diabetic suffers and thus am investigating both programs. Neets normally likes to walk our malamute so when she recovers from her raipd descent, due to a branch breaking, from a low tree I guess she will recommence this as well......

i'm obese. i'm less obese than i was a year ago, but i am losing weight to get healthy, as well as to feel better about how i look.

Master loves me and loves my body. He is concerned about my health, and is all for my losing weight in order to prolong the time i can spend as His. He has had a family member die of complications related to diabetes, and He wants to be sure that does not happen to me.

As far as a Dominant being "Respectable," that is a slippery slope. Whether a person is a slob and/or a scuz is not mitigated by how often they diet or exercise. All that does is make them a healthier slob or scuz. O/one should not judge others by appearances, or judge the choices that other people have made, according to the appearance of the O/one they have chosen. And to those slobs and scuzzes out there, if you are happy, and treat others well, then why should you not be considered "respectable," too?

my Master, on the other hand, is slim, wiry, and can pin me down in any number of wrestling holds, where (even as strong as i am) i could not get away if i wanted to.

However, He has had a bad bad bad back injury in the past, and when it is out, He is sometimes unable to move. There is no way in hell i am going to reject Him when He's sick. Just like i have figured out there is no way in hell He is going to reject me for my size.

Be proud of who You are, KurtGranz. Just beware of how that can come across as critical cruelty towards others who just may be happy with their own situation.

IB, I don't think he is saying that one has to maintain a "top class fitness program" (your words), but rather "they shouldn't just not give a shit" (his words). I am in full agreement with the OP for *me*, as some of you will see from a recent post of mine. Obviously there are people who really aren't capable of any type of exercise...if they are bedridden or paralyzed, but for the majority of us, its not a matter of not being capable of it.

Then again, everyone has different things in life that are important to them. Being fit may just not be one of them, and if the person/persons they are involved with don't view it as important, then it simply is not important in their world. <shrug>

best regards,
fate

No, I knew what the OP was saying, just expanding the same train of thought. Like you I have very limited mobility. I cant walk 100 yards with out resting and even then I need a brace on my left knee and my stick... Pluss diabties has much of my systems screwwed. (In my Physician's own words.. "Your metabolism is screwed and your imune system is fucked".) However I have changed diets as well as working on additional excersises which will work once the pain control is more effective. Untill my left knee went down to a shotgun blast (thank god for kevelar) I was supper fit and at the age of 49 played my last game of gridiron, so you can immagine the psychological changes i've had to make.. Still things always look good and my health re'geme is designed to return some of my health.

Kurt, may I ask if your speaking of those that are close in age to you or are you including us all here? Although I do not agrue against your point, I feel your youth is coloring your statements. Life happens, in time you'll see...........

Well...
I'm fat. Usually I use "chubby" because I'm not quite as far as most people would call "fat" but I'm definatly overweight.

This is due in part to the fact that I'm fairly inactive. I excercise, but it's indifferent at best. I'm in decent shape, I love to hike and take walks, but I'm still fat.

Why?
The biggest reason is because I take medication that causes weight gain. That, in fact, makes weight loss nearly impossible.

I can loose weight, but it requires "jumping off a cliff" style dieting where my food intake goes down to almost nothing and my excercise goes very far up, and generally isn't the best thing in the world.

This does have something to do with the thread. If you'd seen me a few years ago, before my partner and I started our serious power dynamic (or the experementation therewith) I was a lot skinnier. I was actually approaching being -not- overweight :) I have -gained- weight since my partner has become my top. Does this show that he's a shoddy top and that I've "let myself go."?

No. It shows that he's helped me get adequate medication for my mental illness.

Damn that was long winded. What i'm trying to say is that what you -see- might not always be what it looks like.

May I ask why youfeel this way? I disagree with the OP, but I'm wondering what age has to do with this spesific question.

I think he'd be just as wrong if he were 50 and saying it.

Personally I am a big guy, from a family or fairly big people. I will likely always be big my structure just isn't one of those that would look right at the weight most doctors would recommend for my height. I'm a little over six feet and frankly with my body anything under 200 pounds and I would look like a stick. Now truthfully I have let myself go a bit (partly because I hit a bit of a lazy streak, partly because I have bad knees so certain exorcises are hard) and am working on it. But I don't just think that if a person is in great shape or not has a ton of bearing. Though granted there is a difference between someone about 40 pounds overweight like me and someone who is 200 pounds overweight, that might be a tad extreme, but hey if that's what works for you more power to you. Personaly I prefer a woman with a touch of meat on her bones.

Well, of course you can ask! Hopefully my answer will make sense.
I agree only in the light that we all need to do our best with what we've got.
Now that doesn't mean turn ourselves into something were not or ever will be.
I'm not tiny, never have been either, never will be. I've been heavier
and I just didn't feel as good, physically or mentally.
The mentally part is the trick at least to me. So many seem to be turning
to drastic measures to loose part of themselves, not all for medical reasons.
A few I've spoken to say how much happier they are now that they can
get out and do thing they couldn't before. All due to size.
It's assisted them in feeling happier, enjoying life.
Please don't misunderstand me ... my eldest unmentionable is a very
big girl. She is active and has a great outlook on life. She carry's it well.
But every now and then she will ask me how I'm able to do the things I
still do at the ripe old age of damn near 50, when she cant do them
with me. I think it nags at her.....
So to put it in a nut shell? I think when we try to keep up an appearance
it assists us in being happy and productive. Mine could be better,
but 15 less pound isn't going to make a difference.
................
God I hope that made sense!

I am over weight. However, when I was 19 I was working out in the gym 3 times a week, martial arts practise 5 nights and work.
Then I started working and let the gym slide.
After a slip and fall at work that tore the ligaments and muscles between my hip and spine. Add to that type two gigantism and I am going to be fat.
Before you make statements about Body Maintenance and why some people let themselves go, you should ask yourself what will you be like in 20 years.
And hey… the handicapped have the right to kinky love too LOL

You tend to find more of this type of attitude in young people who have less life experience then with people who have just moved out of their parent’s house. When I was a teen it was a lot easier to hang out in the gym then it is when you are working to pay your bill and rent and take care of kids. The youth cult worships hard bodies like you see on TV. And no you don’t have to be young to be in the youth cult. Look at all the 40 and 50 year old people doing silly things to look young again.

Hey Mr. 19 Years Old:

Bodies change over time. The tiny "beauty" efforts you make today are going to leave you fat, balding and with skin ailments by the time you are 30. Fuck, when I was 19 I would have made you look like a porky little turd. And I didn't even work out per se, it I was just constantly involved in athletic activities for there own sake - not because they were a means to another end. Your post is little more than a generalized attack on everyone that doesn't fit in with your scheme of things. Don't like what you see? Move on. We all do it.

Get back to us when you are 35+ and have something moderately intelligent to say.

I apologize for being so direct, but it gets on my tits how some people seem to think there is only one kind of beauty in the world. I have said it before and it bears repeating now: it takes all kinds to make a world. The person you may think is ugly is someone else's Venus or Adonis. No one cares about your particular beauty ideals except you.

So seriously, STFU!

beauty is fleeting - its one thing you can be sure of in this world, well there are a few, but this is one of them, age doest take a toll on a body, life itself takes a toll on a body, illness does take a toll on a body, overindulgence does take a toll on a body, your smooth face will eventually get lines, your ass will eventually sag, your hair will most likely thin out, your muscles may want to do less than they could previously due to overuse or underuse, your joints will creak, and you may even be more likely to break a bone more easily.

Saying that, i agree with the OPS post, its just to peoples benefit be the best they can be at any given time in their life, but i do not think we should make a judgement on people as not giving a shit if they are outa shape, there could be so many reasons for this.

We had a lady come into our clinic who was very over-weight, she came for a massage, during the course of the massage she mentioned how she had been to see a podiatrist about her feet, that were really messed up, thick skin build up, splits in her heels, over-grown toenails, she said the podiatrist had told her how disgusting that was that she had let herself get into such a condition and generally made her feel very embarressed, she would never go back there again and meekly asked if anyone here did pedicures. Since then she comes every two weeks to have her feet done, her confidence is being built up and she walks out with a smile on her face feeling accepted and not judged. My point about this story is, the lady does give a shit, she does care and she is very self-conscious, for whatever reason she was in the state she was in, who cares...but judging her and being over-critical is not what is going to help her. You just have to accept, life happens to people, anyone always tries to do the best they can at any given time, even if it is not up to our own standards of living.

Here we go again. Same thread, I guess...different title.

A dom "should" be respectable. A sub should respect themselves before they are able to offer anything to someone else (and this goes for the dom as well).

Don't know who "they" is with regards to the post, but this is an American (and other nations) issue. It's not an exclusive concern to those in the lifestyle.

Some people work hard to care for themselves physically and mentally, and some struggle to maintain. Some do nothing and look great, but are sad and lonely, and never happy. Some let themselves go by choice, and others by hardships. Some even worry too much about others.

Thank goodness for differences in all of us.

K
