Rumours are that it will be Sarah Palin - pro-life, pro-gun, and inexperienced in foreign policy. A wonderful choice for McCain.

PS: I just heard the news - she IS the nominated VP, according to latest reports, although the GOP isn't confirming it.

Now they are saying it is Alaska governor Sarah Palin.

Aaaah, I LOVE winning the race [:D] .

It will be pretty hard for them to continue their "inexperienced" mantra against Obama if she is the pick.

McCain doesnt have a foreign policy problem like Obama has.

McCain VP is supposed to rally the party behind him and improve his conservative credentials.

My god, there's no end to some people's disingenuity [:D] .

I need to read up on her and see what she brings to the table besides breasts...and you know the media will say she is on the ticket to balance Obama's blackness and appeal to the Hillary people. I simply do not know much about her at all, so it's hard to say what I feel as a voter.......time to do the due diligence.

cyberdude611 -> RE: Rumors suggest McCain has picked his running mate (8/29/2008 7:38:37 AM)

The VP is usually someone without experience. Look at Dick Cheney.

The one on top of the ticket is the one that is supposed to be the experienced one making the big decisions. That's why the Democrat ticket should have been Hillary/Obama. The Democrats would have EASILY controlled the White House for 16 years.

I just know you were talking about McCain..... :)

The VP is the first runner up should the Pres be unable to perform his duties...a distinct possibility for McCain.

I look at the VP today as a sort of general purpose executive assistant, who can troubleshoot things, chase down ghosts, do the diligence needed ......fly the flag in the places the President will not or cannot go. I know that I rely heavily on people like that in both my careers and would be lost without them. So experience in government, as you note...is not the big thing you want. You want, general dedication to you and an ability to do what's needed to help you do your job better....

Now...I'm really serious on this point.....is it not a somewhat similar role on a cerebral level to that a devoted submissive fills?  (Ignoring my earlier humor...).

Just in...McCain has apparently picked Sarah Palin, gov. of Alaska, as his VP.

I think it's a very odd choice. She's been governor since 2006. Before that mayor of a smallish town. She has a degree in communications and journalism.

It is a very clever move on McCains part.  She's female, young, family orientated, has history with disabilities, devoted, reform minded, good looking blahblahblah.  It will get Hillary voters.

Understood...but think about it...since Johnson and Ford,  who was the last VP in recent history we had who could really have stepped in and done that?

It was George Sr.

There is no way Hubert Humphrey, Spiro Agnew, Walter Mondale, Dan Quayle, Al Gore, or Dick Cheney could have done it. Nelson Rockefeller, maybe.......maybe.

kittinSol -> RE: Rumors suggest McCain has picked his running mate (8/29/2008 7:52:49 AM)

If the GOP really think that the female electorate is so easily manipulated that it will fall for such obvious tactics (it's obvious the nomination of Palin is an attempt to rally the Clinton voters), they've got something else coming.
