What was clever, to my mind, was dominating the press today when otherwise they would be talking about Obama-Biden.

Now...I'm really serious on this point.....is it not a somewhat similar role on a cerebral level to that a devoted submissive fills?  (Ignoring my earlier humor...).

It is a very clever move on McCains part.  She's female, young, family orientated, has history with disabilities, devoted, reform minded, good looking blahblahblah.  It will get Hillary voters.

Agreed....it has to be a move aimed at the Hilary supporters.

Just in...McCain has apparently picked Sarah Palin, gov. of Alaska, as his VP.

You repeated what two posters had already mentioned. That's all, no big deal.

I'm not suggesting hardcore clinton/hillary voters - but those floaters that liked the idea of a female in authority.  There are plenty of voters who are so against Obama that they are looking for a 'sign' to go McCain.

Now they have it.

At least they have the order correct. On-the-job training for the one with little or no experience, and the one with good experience at the top of the ticket.

I think it's a very odd choice. She's been governor since 2006. Before that mayor of a smallish town. She has a degree in communications and journalism.

The discussion of McCain and Palin.  It's not news just in... just letting you know there were people discussing her as the option before you - so you could join in.

I still don't think the swingers (mouahahaha) will fall for it: can you imagine someone like Palin president?!!! If that's not about licking up the voters' arses, I don't know what it is. Meanwhile, on another thread, republican posters are indicting Obama for his public charisma... as if their own party wasn't about fluff itself. Well, now it's confirmed: the GOP is at least as superficial as the DNC :-) .

Edited, because I typed too fast.

  • A 'pro-life' feminist.
  • A 'gay-friendly' (She approved benefits for same sex partners) who is against gay marriage
  • A 'Republican' who ran an anti-Republican platform that resulted in broad investigation and arrests of Alaskan Republican State legislature.

Taking about Senator McCain and her on the day after the speech from Mt. Olympus.

Nice manipulation of the news cycle.

Senator McCain's campaign machine is gearing up for the stretch run. With that much PAC money involved it will be a bloody fight. ANY credible and/or right of Marx Democratic candidate should be 60 points ahead instead of 6.

Who was it that posted that Senator McCain wouldn't nominate anyone except an "old, white-haired, man"? BRILLIANT!

Well, it did have to happen.  As far as I have seen tee, the Biden discussions have pretty much subsided now.  It's been more focused on Obamas acceptance speach - I think that is the thing that will get brushed over with this timing.

What I saw "above" was that it was "rumored", I was simply trying to say that it was official according to what I had just heard.  Sorry if I stepped on any toes.

If the GOP really think that the female electorate is so easily manipulated that it will fall for such obvious tactics (it's obvious the nomination of Palin is an attempt to rally the Clinton voters), they've got something else coming.

Well...there must be something their pollsters are telling them that follows along those lines. Pretty awful premise to run for President on.....the thought that trotting out a woman  will cause women to blindly vote for her. But are they saying that Palin is the kind of woman who can attract female voters because of who she is and what she has done in her life?  That knowledge of her will lead to votes?  That seems an ok premise to work from.....

Someone just told me Al Gore is endorsing McCain?  Is that true???

It doesnt matter. It knocks the Democrats off the stage and pushes Obama to page 2. Now the GOP goes into full swing with their convention on Monday.

Analysts on both sides, Democratic and Republican, are saying this was a good pick for McCain. A Washington outsider and a strong conservative.

Sanity -> RE: Rumors suggest McCain has picked his running mate (8/29/2008 8:05:21 AM)

Governor Palin was born in Idaho, raised in Alaska, but a graduate of the University of Idaho... and besides having lots of smarts, she's pretty - a former runner-up in the Miss Alaska pagent.

I bet that when she's debating the old white guy that the Democrats are running for VP she'll wipe the floor with his face!

subtee -> RE: Rumors suggest McCain has picked his running mate (8/29/2008 8:07:25 AM)

http://www.swamppolitics.com/news/politics/blog/2008/08/john_mccain_picks_alaska_gov_s.html

In Palin, McCain has chosen someone with no experience on the national stage and no foreign policy experience. But she is a reformer, popular with conservatives and is considered tough enough to deal with what may come.
In the Vice Presidential debate, however, she will go up against Delaware Sen. Joseph Biden, the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, who has personal relationships with heads of state and other world leaders.
With voters concerned about McCain's age and his history of skin cancer, it remains to be seen whether they will be reassured by a woman with little to no experience on the federal stage who is a heartbeat away from the presidency.
Rep. Jim Clyburn, the House Democratic Whip, told South Carolina ETV Radio that the pick was "risky" and would prove to be as embarrassing to McCain as Dan Quayle was to former President Bush.
"I do believe that McCain has to do something to reshuffle the cards, shake up the establishment, do something unexpected and Governor Palin...has all the kinds of things that McCain might see as a way to shake things up," Clyburn said. "I think it would be something similar to Dan Quayle...Dan Quayle proved to be sort of an embarrassment as a campaigner. Being thrust on a national stage like that could be very tough."
Clyburn also compared the choice to Walter Mondale picking Geraldine Ferraro, a member of Congress who became the first woman on a national ticket, which he said was "absolutely awful."
"And so I just think that it is very risky for McCain to do this, but it may be all he has left," Clyburn said.

I can't wait to watch the GOP convention. I cannot wait to listen to McCain's speech: he has it all on a plate, with the advantage of coming after the Dems. If he fucks that one up again, he's sunk.

I think that is a key issue.  She is pretty unknown really, but her 'history' will attact pro female voters.  And there will always be those voting for sex(no pun intended) than for party.

Well, that's definitely a good reason to vote for John [8|] . What was that nice packaging again [;)] ?
