Yeah, that's the thing... since WHEN does a sitting President need to go into a disaster zone? He has people he's appointed, who are supposed to take the reigns when stuff like this happens. Georgia got invaded by Russia... why the fuck wasn't he jetting off to oversee the situation there? (Hint: we was going on vacation again.)

No one believes this shit anymore. He's staying away because he and the party know that he's not just a lame duck... he's an albatross around their necks.

As it is, the talking heads will have a feild day with yet another transparent Bush lie.

"No one believes this shit anymore. " Yea, I say that to myself everytime I see one of your posts.

Be honest, if he had gone to the convention, then you, kitten and all your little friends would have been screaming about how he doesn't  care. This is just one more chance for you to whine about how awful he is.

Keep up the faith though, come November, you will have a brand new republican to bitch about. Won't that be fun.

After everything that the Bush campaign did to smear McCain, to attend the convention would have been very hypocritical. Gustav allows him to wear some rose colored specs and fool himself into thinking he's saved face. ::shrugs::  If not Gustav, it would have been Georgia, the high price of oil, an in-grown toe nail or whatever other headline might scroll on CNN. I find that a much sadder legacy to leave behind than the hope that some Bush guffaw will throw fuel onto a fire that is already divisive to the welfare of this country. We're split down the middle folks so try to keep in mind that when something makes half this country chuckle, it's making the other half cringe. How is that a good thing?

This is squarely in the "damned if you do, damned if you don't" column.

Like when Obama didn't pick Hillary.  McCain comes out with his snarky little, "look how they dissed her!!" ad.  If he had picked her, the ad would have been along the lines "And he calls himself an agent of change?  Just more of the same."

Bush and Cheney are the Republican's crosses to bear this year.

Yup. It probably will, boi.

I have been, and I remain of the opinion that no matter who wins in November, the country will be better off. I just think if Obama wins, the country will be better off, by far, than if McCain wins. Anything to get that fucking TX usurper out of office!

Either way the Presidential race goes, it's pretty much a sure thing that the Dems will gain seats in the house. As such, if McCain wins, he'll be severely hampered from another "steamroller agenda" the way Bush fucked things up in his early days, before Jeffers grew a spine, and told him to go fuck himself.

If McCain wins, nothing much will be accomplished. The house will fight him tooth and nail on every issue. And that's just fine. We'll sit out four years and watch John go buckfuck in frustration. After that, we'll correct the mistake of his election. If Obama wins, then the US begins crawling back from the edge of the cliff, and maybe, just maybe... things will start to get better.

Well, we can be sure of this:

Mr. Carter (who, whether anyone in the Democratic Party is ashamed of him or not, went and sat in his seat as a superdelegate and has cast his vote, so that every voice is heard. He will also go to Louisianna, if Gustav guts it, and work for Habitatat for humanity).

Mr. Bush (having stolen an election, and knowing that votes don't count doesn't have to attend the convention, because they know you are meant to be seen and not heard.  He will count the millions of delta in gain on his energy stocks as Louisianna is pumped out).

Both rather poorly perceived leaders.  One has class, as a saving grace, the other.....

What you see is what you get.

Celeste I never meant to make light of what is about to hit N.O.,and I am fully aware that real people are about to relive a nightmare I can not even imagine. The thing is this is too rich in irony to ignore, three years after sitting on his ass, watching his man Brownie do a swell job down there,we are now supposed to believe Bush's level of compassion is such that he will be on call 24/7 during the legnth of the emergency....please give me a break. This certainly removes a thorny issue from the convention to wit....how do we ignore and distance ourselves from a sitting President...who by the way will be addressing the convention during prime time.

Oh, hey, as long as we have so many "link crazy" fact checkers on here... would one of you be good enough to find out when the last time was that a sitting President avoided giving an address to their own convention?

I'm betting zero.

LBJ, 1968.  You lose.

CL,

Thanks. What was the reason for LBJ not going? Did your check say anything about why?

Oh, and here's another "BPB BS prediction" for boi: Bush's "compassion" for New Orleans will last exactly as long as the convention. Once the final gavel falls, he'll be hightailing it back to the White House, or to Crawford for a round of golf. (Which he claimed to give up in support of the troops, but that was a lie too.)

I never read the OP as making light of Gustav and I'm sorry if my post came across that way, Mike. That was not my intention at all. I totally got and get where you are coming from about Bush. I don't think anyone is going to buy that he's staying away from the RNC because of Gustav. I don't remember who in this thread said "damned if you do, damned if you don't" but in my opinion, that's a legacy he cultivated and earned all on his own. I don't see how Bush attending or not attending the convention, speaking or not speaking helps or hurts the RNC in any way. Bush is just .. void and I can't wrap my brain around the idea that his presence makes a whit of difference one way or the other.

...as you're a poster that appears to enjoy suggesting that Democrats always shy away from substantive debate, i loom forward to your explanation of how a bouncing green alien is germane to the topic. Are you suggesting that Bush and Cheney are slated for an alien abduction that week?

Imagine Bush goes to the RNC and McCain keeps his distance...  Not good.  OR imagine Bush goes to the RNC and out of respect McCain does pose for pics with him - now imagine the Dem. commercials using those photos... not good.  OR imagine Bush just stays away from the RNC...not good.  So I'll have to go with damned in every case theory...

It isn't like Bush lost in a huge landslide last election - in fact, he beat your guy. Not everyone hates the president like the far left does.

You are correct that not everyone hates Bush.  But his approval rating of 28% has "surpassed" even Nixon's during Watregate.

It's not just the far left.  With an approval rating that low, it's not only Dems and independents that think he's doing a lousy job.

Part of the disapproval numbers is undoubtedly Conservatives wanting the opposite from him that Liberals want. In other words, disapproval of Bush doesn't mean that everyone suddenly loves Kerry, or Carter...
