sigh....you exhaust me you know that? I can't even get angry at this, it is too creepy. I posted a biographical piece about her inexperience and it mentions her children and that one has DS and you do what? Make it into a really wierd and kind of delusional grand standing thing for what? All anyone has to do is read this thread and see where you just kind of went...off. Odd.

Alumbrado does what he does for simple reasons. He is a bully and a coward,so he cherry picks and pounces, twists and distorts and when called on his bullshit he double talks and tries to tie one up in his bullshit...it has been going on in schoolyards since time immemorial.

cyberdude611 -> RE: Palin as Commander in Chief (8/31/2008 9:32:40 PM)

The Down Syndrome issue is big because for conservatives it has to do with right to life issues.

Many conservatives believe if a liberal, pro-choice woman gets pregnant with a baby with a mental or physical disability that she would consider aborting the child.

Aynne88 -> RE: Palin as Commander in Chief (8/31/2008 9:33:14 PM)

It is so wierd though, like a tactic employed when you lose control of the discussion. Here is the post, and the Down's reference. Where is it anything but a factual mention by the OP of the article? Am I missing something or he is just lying flat out?

John McCain fooled everyone and chose Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) as his running mate. People had talked about her but not many people took her seriously. She comes with an unusual mix of characteristics. First, she's a woman. Second, she's a woman. Third, she's a woman. McCain is betting the farm that the female Democratic PUMA voters who said they would vote for McCain will now really do it. The (unspoken) reasoning, of course, is either McCain is old and has had cancer four times and might die in office, leaving us with a woman President or in 2012 or 2016 she can run for the office on her own. It is likely that the working-class male supporters of Clinton, especially those in the rust belt will think she's a hot chick (she's a former beauty pageant runner-up and fond of motorcycling) but whether they will vote for her is something else again. She is a very devout Christian with five children, the youngest of whom has Down's syndrome. She is very strongly against abortion. This pick allows him to say to the Base: "You had doubts about me. Look who I picked." It will give him enormous credibility with the evangelicals. In that respect it was a brilliant choice. She is a member of the NRA (and likes to eat mooseburgers), which will be popular with gun owners.

Alumbrado -> RE: Palin as Commander in Chief (8/31/2008 9:34:05 PM)

'Nothing to do with anything... ' which is why it has been brought up over and over and over since Palin's name was first mentioned...just like Obama's 'Quran oath' pictures and pastor.

And of course Ayne's 'ooopppss' slip of the finger 'accidentally' linking to an even more scurrilous piece of tabloid trash, and slavemike's 'Im just sayin' I feel for her yanno' crap.

If you can find anyone who is fooled by this lockerroom slime, please, by all means flood them with as much of it as you wish..

Aynne88 -> RE: Palin as Commander in Chief (8/31/2008 9:35:16 PM)

cyberdude I totally get that part of it, but that is not at all the discussion. This was mentioned in a biographical context in a piece about her life, and in no way at all was it derogatory towards Down's syndrome or her child, so what on earth is he talking about?

Or they could read all the posts where her family, and specifically her status as a 'mom'  gets brought up over, and over, and over, as part of a litany of her short comings in the matter of hours since her name was first announced, and wonder why you think anyone wouldn't believe you aren't using it for poltical fodder.

That was no link to her biography, it was mudlsinging hateful attack politics, pure and simple.

What experience does Obama have that qualifies him to be PRESIDENT?

The weight which one assigns to experience is subjective not objective. For some, it means nothing, for others it means everything. Perhaps if you asked a different question you might garner a few satisfying answers?

Personally, I like that aspect of both Palin and Obama because they 'don't' have the baggage with comes with experience that the Washington insiders carry. There is a freshness there which appeals to me. The Palins and Obamas, the men and women currently clerking, the kids entering college for the first time this fall - they are going to lead our nation  .. they are the future and it's about damn time we, as voting citizens remember that we have a responsibility to the next generation not to leave things totally and completely fucked up for them. We have some work to do in that regard.

Okay, all that said, I'm actually going to answer your question.

Obama has the experience of being a unique American. He has lived in his skin for 40+ years and has attained skill sets and abilities. He has the experience of being married and having a family. He has experienced opportunities which he has not wasted such as higher education. He has the experience of helping other people find jobs, he has the experience of helping kids find direction. He has the experience of sitting among others and voicing his opinions, concerns, agreements and objections to legislation which has an impact at the state and federal levels. He has the experience of failing and succeeding .. of love, indifference, hate, lust, glory and saddness. He has the experience of having traveled many roads, of standing fast and of changing his mind. He has the human experience ..as do we all. He is flawed and perfect, mediocre, exciting and boring. In his future, whether elected or not, he will experience exalted highs and ultimate lows, he will, ultimately experience death. He's an adult American who has reached the minimum age requirement to run for office. That qualifies him for the presidency. If he can inspire enough people to vote for him, then he will have earned his office and will proceed to lead the nation on the path he believes is best. If he fails to live up to the expectations of those who vote for him, no doubt, that particular experience won't be long lived. I would say .. somewhere around 4 years. If he does well, he gets 8 tops .. then some other kid on the block can take the reigns and we'll start the whole process over again.

So, there you go. You have an answer. Feel free to apply it to anyone you like.. the minutia will change, but the essence remains the same.

That .. is the American way. ::grins::

I think the Japanese thought that americans were monsters that would eat them, and the Iraquis thought that we would force-feed them pork.

What a strange and backwards people, these three paleo-cultures.

slvemike4u -> RE: Palin as Commander in Chief (8/31/2008 9:44:27 PM)

Sorry Aynne that I can't do,he has impugned and maligned my character once too often,as far as I'm concerned I will call him on every bullshit statement he post's.

Alumbrado -> RE: Palin as Commander in Chief (8/31/2008 9:44:47 PM)

The things both of you are on record as saying , were put there your own choices, not mine..if you have to run away from that or resort to making up things others never said, let that be another one of your choices.

No matter how manyof them you have to fabricate.... Gotcha.

Aynne88 -> RE: Palin as Commander in Chief (8/31/2008 9:48:04 PM)

I have no issue with anything  I said at all Alumbrado, my issue is with things you so recklessly infer that I may have meant in what I said. See the difference? You are a smart guy, try to.

Hurry on over to the new thread about the Daily Kos article on the Palin "scandal." Go spank them too will you? How dare they post such tabloid fodder?

Aynne88 -> RE: Palin as Commander in Chief (8/31/2008 9:49:49 PM)

You will be busy.[8|]  Thank goodness people can just read the damn things.
