Word. There is so much focus on Palin, no one is talking about Bush, the Economy, Iraq, gas prices .. or McCain. It's working perfectly. Leak a little here.. leak a little there .. all rather benign sort of stuff that really doesn't to do much damage in the minds of Independents and really rally's the staunch conservatives who might have just stayed home this time.

Not everyone is fooled by this but enough might be .. and I can acknowledge it and respect it even though I hope it doesn't work.

I'm voting for Obama and would rather talk about his stratospheric speech.  But what's amazing to me is that McCain looks better with a former beauty queen next to him.  People actually want to vote for him now....  again, Trojan Horse...which is the decoy away from what the focus is on:  the Battle to Save Our Country.

I wonder if the American Public is up for the challenge on steering clear of the media manipulations and staying focused on what we're trying to accomplish with this election.

So why doesn't Obama just ignore her? why don't the Dems?

Why are the lefties so outraged by her selection?

slvemike4u -> RE: Palin: Two Words.. (9/2/2008 3:13:28 PM)

Can't see this working all these conversations, benign or not , lead to one unavoidable qestion. That of McCains judgement, the candidate of experience is understandably being questioned over his decision making process. How many news cycles do you think they can afford to eat up discussing her and the process...before the impression is set in stone that he screwed the pooch with this choice. Will she even make it thru the convention as the VP candidate?

He pretty much does.

why don't the Dems?
Because of what happened the last time a Trojan Horse was ignored. Better to try to dismantle it. That's just common sense.

I don't know for sure .. but my guess would be they don't want her to be president and given McCains health and age, it's a possibility. She did say that she would only accept the nomination if she thought it would help Alaska .. and many in the states think the VP should focus a bit more on the national level than a single state level. As I said.. it's just a guess and I could be wrong.

if i were a woman of any race - any pursuasion and faced the grim possibility of forced pregnancy after a rape........ i would stab that pretentious psycho bitch in the eye for taking away my right to choose.

Because she should be at home, raising her ___'s,  making dinner for husband, and cleaning house.  Caring about gender equality was just another talking point, and if it didn't get Hillary in for them, feminism is just annoying.

Heretic,if the point you're trying to make is that not just any skirt will do....you hit it on the head. That is the correct answer.not the sarcasm you offered.

In today's New York Times, Bob Herbert argues, "Palin is the latest G.O.P. distraction. She’s meant to shift attention away from the real issue of this campaign — the awful state of the nation after eight years of Republican rule."

Not outraged, merely amused.

No, I think gender equality means that a woman doesn't get a free pass because she is a woman but is judged on her merits, as every candidate should be.

bipolarber -> RE: Palin: Two Words.. (9/2/2008 6:55:56 PM)

So did several op ed peices in the National Review... not exactly a bastion of liberal thought there... The GOP is really uncomfortable with her... probably even more so than McCain, but they are stuck with her selection now. To change the pick now would just call McCain's "good judgement" into question. But hey, he DID phone her once, and met her twice before offering her the second most powerful job in the world!

So all they can do now, is watch... as this slow motion bomb named Sara Palin goes off in their faces.

So far:
Troopergate.
A failure to file taxes on one of her businesses.
Only Governor for 20 months.
Was a member of a political organization that wanted AK to 'ceed from the the lower 48.
Mayor of "FrozenMooseDick" Alaska, Pop. 9000 (or, if you prefer, about 1/4 of the number of people who were at the DNC last week)
Gun nut.
Frothing at the mouth anti-abortionist.
Neglects her newborn child for her own power grab.

She's an ex beauty queen... so I'm just waiting for the nude photos to show up in either Hustler, or Penthouse.

Sanity -> RE: Palin: Two Words.. (9/2/2008 7:33:48 PM)

Bob Herger is ignorant of the facts. The "rule" has been split between Democrats and Republicans of late, with the Democrats holding the nations' purse strings and therefore having the power to withold funding for the war in Iraq... as well as full control of fiscal decisions.

bipolarber -> RE: Palin: Two Words.. (9/2/2008 7:47:26 PM)

And of course, if they had voted to cut the spending for the war, the GOP would have trumpeted up the "unpatriotic!" screech, and pointed their fingers at the Dems, like Donald Sutherland at the end of the first remake of "Invasion of the Bodysnatchers." Thus, causing them to lose this election,  and keep their (the republican's) choke hold over our freedoms for another four years.

Make no mistake: the republicans manipulated things in such a way that the Dems were basically in the same position as that Abu Ghraib prisoner, the photo where the hooded POW (oops, sorry, "enemy combatant") was forced to stand on a box with wires attached to him for days on end: The Dems thought that if they did the right thing, stop this national torture, they'd get zapped, but if they stayed in place, they (and the rest of the country) would survive....

In the meantime, while the GOP was playing headgames, thousands of our troops, and tens of thousands of innocent Iraqi civilians were dying.

Are you suggesting then that Obama should be judged on his merits?   Hmmm.   That might not work out so well.

Even with everything that has broken loose in the last few days (and partly because of it), I still say Palin was an excellent strategic choice.  This election is no longer about the committed R/D voters.  It's about the shifting middle.  It's about people who are thoroughly disgusted with both sides, and have to choose a lesser of evils.

How much damage did that Daily Kos slime piece do among 50+ year old women who don't automatically hate the same people the author does?  Might be enough to shift a few to Palin's defense.

Her religion?  The fundy's are aboard.  Love 'em or hate 'em, they can deliver a vote.  Better still, going after her religion drags Jeremiah Wright right back from the recycle bin.

Her husband belonged to a radical third party that wanted Alaska to secede?  Let's talk about Michelle Obama's earlier (?) socio-political views

Damn near every charge the D's try to throw at her, backfires onto the top of their ticket, or makes them look like bigoted bullies.

       ONLY a governor huh?

Barry hangs with a guy who set off bombs
Mayor of "FrozenMooseDick" Alaska, Pop. 9000 (or, if you prefer, about 1/4 of the number of people who were at the DNC last week)

Still more executive experience than Obama has, and in a direct and hands on way.

Gun nut.

You say that like it's a bad thing

Frothing at the mouth anti-abortionist.

Which locks in a lot of votes

Neglects her newborn child for her own power grab.
