It is irrational, hateful behavior. and not something anyone should be proud of.

So tell me, Candy, why do you suppose women aren't as predisposed to this sort of insanity?

I've never hated the French. I leave that sort of stupidity to the gomers in fly-over country. I quite like the French, actually.

I always get a chuckle out of people who respond to questions like this, saying things like:

"I'm not homophobic, but..."
"I just don't want to see two dudes kissing..."
"I just don't see how guys can expect me to do that to them/ be done that way by them..."
"I knew a gay guy once..." (guess what, somewhere between 5 to10% [higher, if you include bisexuals like myself] of the world is gay... you know a lot more than you think...)

This is the whole problem with the discussion of homophobia and the reason why the situation isn't likely to improve any time soon. The only appropriate response is "I love all gay men". Anything short of that is ridiculed as you have done above. There is no middle ground. It's all or nothing.

Evility, at 50, I can tell you it's a rare Man indeed who doesn't come across to a Woman as a horse's ass...straight or gay. And those who pass this test, Women treasure.

I don't find the same thing among straight Men...even at 50, too many still feel the urge to stick their penises anywhere warm, as long as the object includes a pussy.

But perhaps I'm being a bit harsh. Let's say the number of non-horse's asses is more like 50%. Still lower than Women, IME.

How many Women do you know who've turned 40, lost their freaking mind, abandoned their families and spent their last dime on a red corvette?

I cannot understand how Candystripper appeared to conclude that I hated male homosexual behaviour in a social context simply because I was honest and said I dont like it.
I dont like people who are excessively attention seeking.
I dont like needy people
I dont like people who simply cant listen when holding a conversation
The list is endless...and perfectly natural....for all of us.

Frankly I adore "pda's' but I suppose that's the catholic schoolgirl in me, because we were subject to getting 'demerits' if caught engaging in one, anywhere.

It's a good way to observe human behavior in group settings. I don't know what point you were trying to make with your "rougher parts of town" bravado, but it doesn't change my point. Women on the whole are not predisposed to violent behavior. It shows up in crime statistics, and it shows up in situations like riots where mob mentality is the rule of the day.

There's a world outside the classroom, even outside 'middle America'. FBI statitistics reflect a bias against violence in Women that runs deep in this country. Until Aileen Wormos, most profilers denied any women serial killers even existed. In 20 years, the rates of rapes against Women have gone up drastically; is that because more rapists are afoot -- or more Women are willing to prosecute? Statistics do not tell the whole story. Last time I looked, the single largest growing felony population was arson committed by Women, though I will grant you, arson may not be a truly 'violent' crime.

To nobody in particular: if you told me a woman was 'homophobic' I'd assume you meant she had an irrational fear/loathing of gay Men, not lesbian Women. I really don't think there's a true synonym, and I think it's because there is no concurrent phenom.

I do not understand all of the reasoning behind homophobia.

It is an instant turn-off for me. Both my primary boy and I are bisexual and many of our mutual friends are gay, lesbian, bi and TS/TG.

Some people are willing to gradually work on their attitude and make adjustments, others are completely unwilling to even try.

Maybe we could bottle a cure for intolerance in one of those fancy super-caffeinated sports drinks like Monster or Red Bull. We could then market it as "improving performance" and full of "anti-oxidants" with a disclaimer about putting hair on the chest.
