So, are there subs out there who truly, selfishly enjoy pain? I've talked to many subs who say they "like" pain, but then it turns out that they really like taking pain because it pleases their Domme.

I'd love to hear about the experience of pain from subs perspectives.

i like pain because it sends me to heaven if it is built up slowly, and also as it pleases my Sir.

I speak from the sadistic side of the whip but I can tell you that my second submissive became extremely aroused from pain.  The more expertly it was applied or the more that someone knew about her "pain response", the more wet and hazy she got.

And no...it was not just me.  There was a femdominant here in this state at one time who was fantastic with those claws...and she had my submissive wetting her thighs all the way to her knees, I swear.  She'd often said that it would take a certain type of female...and a dominant one at that...to make her want another woman.  That night, she was damn near begging the femdominant to return to the hotel room with us.

I like the pain because of where it takes me - my happy place.  And once i am there i like the pain for itself.
When i first was with my Sir, he would give me spankings or canings  - and would stop too soon - and leave me feeling as if i wasn't "done". I think it surprised him when i would ask for more - mostly because i was a newbie to  spanking and pain.  Now he doesn't hold back.

My Domme took on a second slave for a while.  Her name was Christine.  When Christine and Myst met, Christine was worried that Myst wouldn't play hard enough for her.  Boy was she wrong,  Myst used toys on her that make me cringe...    they played in the back room for several hours..  Our room mate and i sat on the couch listening to the WHACKS and screams coming out of that room.. I have never met a pain slut like that before..

So Christine asked and needed to be played that hard. They played like that every weekend.  I'm a wimp.. lol

Truly?  YES!

Does that make them less, or more, 'True Masochists'?

Wouldn't the experience of pain as pleasure make them a 'true pleasurist' who enjoys painful sensation? Whereas as 'true masochist' would not enjoy the sensation but suffer it, not for his/her pleasure but, for the pleasure of who it is that he/she is serving.

However, being a 'true sadist' I rather enjoy being matched with a 'true pleasurist' with 'true masochist' mind-set, who happens to "really like" taking pain from my inflicting it.

It is truly amazing!

I like pain. I like the chemical reaction that takes place in my brain. I like the altered state of consciousness I go into when receiving pain. It's like being tipsy or stoned. It's amazing. I love the way pain feels... which I think is a pretty obvious thing to say, really, lol. I like immediate pain and I like the after-effects of pain.

And not only do I love pain on a physical level, I also love it on a more emotional level, because taking pain... especially severe pain... makes me feel strong and empowered. I come away from most intense scenes with a real sense of pride and accomplishment... and a slightly fuzzy head, lol.

Great post.

A lot of people have a hard time getting past the naive idea that pleasure and pain are necessarily opposites. Pleasure and pain needn't be unstood as opposites, or as excluding one another, any more than work and play, music and noise, or courage and fear.

There are occasions when its useful, maybe even sufficient to use those pairs of words as opposites, but there is lot more to life than those occasions.

The problem the original poster seems to be grappling with strikes me as a problem with making people and their responses fit into certain notions about what words like pleasure and pain, sadism and masochism mean.

But the phenomena are somuch more complex and inter-related than some familiar textbook definitions.

My hubby is one of these.  He's a huge pain-pig and willing stunt-pervert.  A lot of his toybox is made up of stuff that folks have given him because they can't use them on anyone else.  His love of pain and his wonderful reactions to it make him a very popular fellow.  It's common when we go to a party for someone to ask if they can beat on him - I let them as long as they promise not to remove any parts they can't reattach.  He's very big and meaty, which I think gives folks a certain level of comfort in beating the crap out of him.  If you lose a little accuracy in favor of more impact, you're still going to land your stroke in the target area.  All of him is well-upholstered, so a misfire is very unlikely to do him any damage.  Just to be sure, I made him a kidney pad to use with his big-big flogger.

I've asked him about this.  He's really in it for the endorphins.  The right kind of pain sends him into really cool headspace.  One of his particular favorites for endorphins is cautery pen branding.  Tie him down good and snug (he likes that no matter what kind of pain he's going to be getting) and he can focus on the localized burny pain and it gives him a real rush.  It hurts, no doubt, but it's a really good hurt.

I feel the same way about needles that he does about branding.  Getting poked with great big needles hurts like a sonufabitch, but it's a fabulous kind of hurt that makes my brain just go ZING - like good drugs without the side effects or nasty hangover.  There is a hangover, but it's wonderful - I'm happy and floaty for a while after some good puncturing, much like hubby is after a good solid beating or a long session with the cautery pens.

I've been saying for a long time that we really need more words for "masochism"- one to describe receiving physical pleasure from extreme sensations that are normally interpreted as being painful, and another to describe the seeking of painful sensations for other reasons. They're  different aspects, and it's misleading to always lump them together under a single term.

I also thought the cautery pen felt nice, but isn't he worried about running out of skin?

I truly selfishly enjoy pain. It's a form of stress release for me. I enjoy it, it turns me on, it relaxes me and the more pain I get the more I crave. I don't know that I would necessarily consider myself a masochist, but more of a sensationalist. I enjoy the sensation. I enjoy other things that are not classified as pain too (fireplay, cupping, ice play etc...) and there are some sensations that annoy me like electrical play, but canes and singletails are just the best things ever to me.

It's the same for the word "sadist". I identify as a sadist, but the desire to inflict pain doesn't stem from a love of inflicting pain, but rather as a form of power and expression of dominance over another. Hence, the context in which I inflict the pain is important. Standing over someone with a flogger and cane and making them cry and howl where I am essentially providing a service of an endorphin high is boring and empty for me. However, making someone "endure" something simply because I "can" is incredibly hot, erotic, and intense.

Thus a masochist who finds enjoyment and fulfillment in "enduring" suffering at the hands of another is a more compatible partner to me then someone who gets direct sexual pleasure from the pain itself.

oh i truly selfishly enjoy pain. i bloody revel in it. luckily i happen to have the opprotunity to play and scene with sadistic tops who gladly inflict that pain. there is no comparison with the flow of energy, passion, and heat that emerges between the opposites of sadists and masochists. hell even the denial of pain is fun in its own way.

bless those who beat us. sets the mind free in so many ways.

I have screamed and cried with the pain, I have had orgasms with the pain, I have endured certain kinds of torture and found other tortuous things quite arousing.
It is sweet to float and feel pain transform me; it can be just as sweet to hate what he did but crawl into his arms after and allow my tormentor to soothe me.

OH, if ONLY you two were in Houston -- those are two of my -very- favorite activities... and cutting... I love doing cuttings. I love the energy of the person who really thrives on pain. *grins*

I call myself an "intensity daemon" (in the definition of classical mythology -- the attendant spirit). I am empowered by the process of giving pain, and under the right circumstances, receiving ritual pain. At the same time, I am energized by any deep, powerful, intense involvement... it is the intensity, not the specific, that is the motivator for me.
