ORIGINAL: Thadius After catching a few talking heads talking about it, and a poster here discussing it. I have just one question. When did it become policy to allow Russia to determine who is or is not allowed in NATO, especially if they are threatening violence? I never stated that it was up to Russia. Your drawing false conclusions. The situation in Russia and Georgia is not resolved there are conflicting reports as to why the conflict occurred we in the US are assuming that everything Russia says is a lie for some reason. I think the better response would be to send international investigators to try to find proof of Russian claims, before going back to this cold war mentality that everything Russia does is evil. Once that is resolved and clarified then one could decide on such issues as NATO. If it is determined that it was a purely aggressive action then at that point the decision should be made, if the Russian reports are true then Georgia should be punished. That's how I look upon it. Right now, there is virtually no effort to prove or disprove the allegations, just assumptions of right and wrong. Georgia may not be innocent or they may be innocent or whatever, same for Russia, why don't we figure that out first before we start antagonizing each other. All I've seen is that Russia went into Georgia, we believe and promote everything Georgia says for the most part, and discount all Russian accounts. The question was does she believe Georgia and Ukraine should be admitted into NATO, she answered yes to both, then the question was asked if the US should go to war, to which she said if they were members of NATO that it is the responsibility as part of the treaty to help, and to perhaps get involved on the ground (pardon my paraphrasing), however the word PERHAPS was definitely in the wording. Which is a fact. Article 5 of the NATO treaty requires all allies to treat an attack on one as an attack on all, and for the untited defense of an ally. Just my 2 cents, for what they are worth in this economy...
