Can some one please message me and tell me what was in the skit? I haven't heard of it due to the fact I'm in Australia

Here's the jist of it.

Thanks for the 'fair use' clip, Slaveboy.  Yeah.  I'd say that one blew up in their faces.  I'll give SNL this;  considering what has been considered fair game in the politics of personal destruction applied to Governor Palin and her family, such an extreme was where they had to go to make their point.

Yes, you've discovered our secret.

All Democrats and all liberals conspired to have a television show help us in our evil plan to destroy this poor helpless waif.

Sanity -> RE: The Skit (9/23/2008 7:35:23 AM)

Oh, they should have the right to say it. They also have the right to resort to overt racism .. anything that tickles their inner asshole. But they don't have a right to an audience, or ratings, or sponsors if their material is so bad that people chooses to tune them out.

Aaah, but I don't agree with just spouting off any kind of shit in public: it seems like you don't mind, as long as it's the kind of shit you like. When you don't like the shit in question, all hell breaks loose.

So what shall it be, freedom of speech no matter what (including making nasty jokes about the Clinton's and Palin's brood) or freedom of speech with some limitations (third time I ask). Or do you have something else to propose?

So use the magic off button on your remote and we won't have to waste time debating this whiny bullshit!

Well, if they have an audience, they have ratings, and as a result they will find advertisers - or not, if the case may be. "Rights" don't come into the equation, if you accept anything can be said anywhere: it's a question of marketability. And all's for the best in the best of all capitalistic worlds. I knew we'd come to an agreement.

Sanity -> RE: The Skit (9/23/2008 8:50:55 AM)

I won't be tuning them in. When I sit down for some comedy or go to a concert I don't want some mindless DNC infomercial, or to hear overt political propaganda that could easily put the Third Reich to shame.

Like I said, even if it had been skewering the Obama family. It isn't what I tune in to comedy for.

And as for mike, it's not just about my ability to turn the set off, or my choice, they're singling out and attacking a real American family on live TV.

Palin really was a brilliant choice.  How better to get the American Left to display what vile, degenerate, revolting slime they are?

I hope SNL has new episodes every week, between now and the election.

They learn well.. 8 years of observing the same from YOUR boys.  Fighting fire with fire. They just used the tactics first this time.  No whining now.. take it like a man, Rych.

Of course... that NEVER happens on tv... EVER! [8|]

It's a comedy show. The topic was a bit tasteless, but hey it's SNL, what do you expect. If something offends you, turn it off- it's not a terribly hard concept.

First, rape jokes, UM jokes and such are not really network friendly wouldn't you say? There are and should be limitations on speech and someone at NBC should have nixed the incest dialogue of that script and had them replace it or drop it. I am quite sure GE isn't very happy since they have to answer to their shareholders and advertisers.

Sun kittin....

I am guessing you would urge NBC to profusely, publicly and personally apologize to Sarah Palin, Todd Palin and his daughters? Like McCain did ten years ago?

Also... Do you really see the a tasteless joke for a small private audience the same thing as a tasteless joke told on Network Television, live to millions of people?

Finally....

The story was all over the Internet within minutes of airing. By Sunday morning it was seen by millions more as they opened their e-mail. By Sunday Night it was being touted as proof of the sexism put upon Sarah Palin and by Monday it was major news story all over the country.

So really me bringing it up on a niche BDSM forum or Sanity commenting on it hardly contributed to the "propaganda".

Curious...

I thought vthe whole point of the election was to CHANGE from that.

Guess I was wrong.

slvemike4u -> RE: The Skit (9/23/2008 9:29:16 AM)

The funniest thing about the skit has been the reactions I have read here.Republicans up in arms over a skit on SNL....priceless....

FatDomDaddy -> RE: The Skit (9/23/2008 9:39:21 AM)

Sort of like the democrats reaction to the New Yorker Cover.

Heh Its called Satire at its finest Mike, http://www.collarchat.com/m_2006850/mpage_1/tm.htm

In the thread Ven gave a link to  Obamas reaction to the cover.....

QUOTE:"Obama also addressed the New Yorker's cover depicting him in Muslim garb and his wife as an armed militant, saying it is an unsuccessful attempt at satire that will likely fuel misconceptions he has long battled over the course of his presidential campaign.

But he downplayed the impact of the magazine's illustration.

"It's a cartoon ... and that's why we've got the First Amendment," Obama said. "And I think the American people are probably spending a little more time worrying about what's happening with the banking system and the housing market, and what's happening in Iraq and Afghanistan, than a cartoon. So I haven't spent a lot of time thinking about it."

"I've seen and heard worse," he said. "I do think that in attempting to satirize something, they probably fueled some misconceptions about me instead. But that was their editorial judgment."

The cover, which also depicts a U.S. flag burning in the fireplace and a picture of bin Laden on the wall, drew heavy criticism from both political parties after it circulated on the Internet over the weekend. Both presidential campaigns immediately condemned the magazine, calling the illustration "tasteless and offensive." END QUOTE
