Back to the original question. Why is McCain's same old US barren foreign policy that has not yet succeeded in finding a solution for just about anything likely to be a more successful foreign policy than a new aapproach to foreign policy by Obama?

slvemike4u -> RE: The Great Debate Tonight!!!!! Hell yeah! (9/27/2008 11:20:22 AM)

Meatclaver you make the same mistake palestinians do when they hold out for the right of return....That ship has passed, you can decry all you want the bloody birth of Israel, but birth it was and the child of that birth is the only democracy in the region.Who else should America align itself with,Israel the island amidst an ocean of Arabs exists and will exist  long after Amidenjahd(sp?) shuffles off to his ultimate reward(sic).
Did Israel have at its inception blood on its hands...yes,most countries do including mine.Shall we give America back to the various Indian tribes,I think not,and neither will Israel ever return the land it views as Israeli(the west bank might be negotiable)to the Palestinians.
Your assertion that America holds Israels chain will be disproved once the Iranians get close to acquiring a Nuke...no power on earth will stop the Israelis from destroying that capability...and given the public posturing of the Iranians ...who could blame them(besides you obviously).

To be honest Merc. I don't think I've ever read a balanced and rational view of the middle east on an American website.
MC,
Unless you are Columbus discovering an island doesn't mean you've found a continent.

Similar islands exist in Israel. They are used commonly by Israeli apologists who at the same time ignore your accurate example. However, do they represent the Country or the people in either case?

There are island communities in the US where guns are banned, cars are banned. Would you accept those similarly as representing the US people or US policy?

People have said or at least implied in this thread that Iran wants to exterminate Jews. Iran has never said such a thing and if it wanted to exterminate Jews you would have thought it would start where it could. What Iran has said, it is against the zionist state of Israel. Well, there are a lot of Jews that are not happy with the zionist state too.

Israel is not a democracy, if it was, it would give Israeli Arabs equal rights. An Arab citizen of Israel can't buy land without special dispensation. I won't go into the other forms of official discrimination.

Iran will get a nuke, at some point America and Israel are going to have to reconcile themselves to that fact.

Israel has the nukes, not Iran. Who can blame Iran for wanting nukes given the posturing of the US and Israel. That argument goes both ways and is sterile.

if Iraq had a nuke, American troops would not be there. America has given every country in the world the biggest reason to get nukes.

slvemike4u -> RE: The Great Debate Tonight!!!!! Hell yeah! (9/27/2008 11:26:18 AM)

Not happy with the zionist state of Israel....is a far cry from wanting it wiped from the face of the earth....Your prejudices and tilted world view has colored your opinions.

Iran will never be allowed to obtain the capacity to follow thru on their rhetoric....as you have stated Israel has nukes and will use them against any threat it percieves to its state.....you have heard the phrase Never Again...have you not?
To the Israelis this is not mere rhetoric this is a creed they live by and are sworn to uphold....

OK, there are a lot of Jews that would be happy with the dissolution of Israel, especially since the immigration of many Russian Jews who under Jewish religious law aren't Jews and many who don't have any Jewish blood at all but pretended and conspired with the Israeli state to be Jews. I think one prominant Jew called this the prevention of the leventinization of Israel.

You keep pushing the lie that Iran has called for the extermination of Jews when it hasn't.

Iran will probably get nukes because it has the capacity to get nukes.

I suggest you read some history and then come back. Israel was not attacked by a coalition of Arabs, Israel ethnically cleaned and murdered Arab women and children. Syria did not send troops to aid the Palestinian Arabs, Syria did fight but not for the Palestinian Arabs, Jordan did not attack Israel, it helds its lines against Israeli attack as it was ordered to. Egypt did send some troops. Even then Israel had far outnumbered the Arabs, were better armed and trained and were prepared for war, the Arabs weren't prepared for war so that shows you who wanted war and who didn't!

I suggest you read history, because they were attacked by a coalition of Arab countries.  The Israelis were better armed and trained because they were surrounded by hostile countries.  I don't call defense preparations wanting war.

In the 60's, Syria began sponsoring guerilla attacks on Israel.  In 1964, different Arab countries tried to cut off a major source of Israel's water by diverting part of the Jordan River.  In 1967, Egypt massed troops and equipment on the Sinai peninsula and closed off the straits to Israeli shipping.  Jordan than entered into a mutal defense pact with both Syria and Egypt.  Immediately after Jordan joined the pact; Nasser declared, "Our basic objective is the destruction of Israel.  The Arab people want to fight."  Nasser continued making declarations like that, and he continued preparing for war.  I guess the Israelis were wrong to assume an attack was imminent. [8|]

Not only did Egypt send troops, so did Syria.  Jordan most certainly attacked Israel.  It specifically attacked Jerusalem and Netanya.  Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Tunisia, Morocco, and Algeria all contributed troops to the effort.  I'd call that a coalition.

Do me a favour and go away and read your history again. There was no coalition of Arabs. The Jordanians didn't attack Israel, they were commanded by British officiers and ordered to hold their lines which they did. It was they of all the arabs that faired best against the Israelis and it was they that did not try to advance into what had been UN allocated Israel.

Israel along with Britain and France invaded Egypt in 1956 so I can assume by your response you think it is fine for Israel to attack Arabs but its not fine for Arabs to retaliate? Israel started the 1967 war with a pre-emptive strike, you know, the sort the US did against Iraq because it had WMDs. Actually, according to several western diplomats, the US assured Egypt it would not allow Israel to start a war.

The Iranian people have not treated the jews in their community well.

Americans have not treated the blacks in their community well.

so how does that prove your point and how do Iranians recognize the jewish community?

Because the Jewish community is recognized under the Iranian law for the protection of cultural rights for minorities (or some title like that.).

Meatcleaver,

The birth of Israel is directly related to the turning their eyes away and the annihilation of 6 million of the jewish people by your country.

SilverMark -> RE: The Great Debate Tonight!!!!! Hell yeah! (9/27/2008 11:53:59 AM)

In my view McCain came off as smug....his constant "he doesn't understand "was patronizing reminded me of some of old Georgie Boys speaking.
The more the American public see of McCain the less they are going to like him. Palin will not be able to help as she becomes known because she comes off as a lot less intelligent when answering questions (see Katie Couric) than she does delivering a stump speech.
McCain blinked...Showed up at the debate...round 1 to Obama.
McCain acts like a pissed off old man and the constant references to the past only helps cement that impression.
All opinion and I am biased as hell!!! and proud of it!!!!! and by the way, aside from the right leaning editorialist's Obama won in the eyes of those who were polled...even some of the right's editors said Obama did well and McCain didn't do enough!....bet they choked on those words!!!!!!
Thought just maybe we could get back on the topic?????

meatcleaver -> RE: The Great Debate Tonight!!!!! Hell yeah! (9/27/2008 11:55:57 AM)

I have not been subject to the daily pro-Israeli propaganda American citizens are fed which is why I have a more balanced view.

It was Americans that attacked me and brought up this endless debate about Iran and Israel when I suggested dialog is better than the barren foreign policy McCain believes in because such policies have never brought a solution to anything. I do note that no Republcian has intellectually defended the success of such barren policies because it has never had any success. They simply muddy the waters by accusing other states of being monsters and saying things they haven't said.

And the thing is Silvermark, this being the foriegn policy debate all Obama had to do was hold his own, which he certainly did,and not appear has if he was being taken to school by professor McCain.....This he accomplished in spades.....Now where is Biden and the hockey mom...

Not strictly true but partly true, du to European guilt.and the Palesrtinian Arabs were made to pay for thge NAZI crimes. The zionists were actually planning the birth of Israel for decades before the war and encouraging European Jewish legal and illegal immigration into the area, which was what upset the cultural balance and started the conflict that became ourt and out war in 1947. Before the zionist intervention in the region, Arabs and Jews spoke each otheres languages, mixed freely and lived in mixed communities.
