Meatclaver you make the same mistake palestinians do when they hold out for the right of return....That ship has passed, you can decry all you want the bloody birth of Israel, but birth it was and the child of that birth is the only democracy in the region.Who else should America align itself with,Israel the island amidst an ocean of Arabs exists and will exist  long after Amidenjahd(sp?) shuffles off to his ultimate reward(sic).
Did Israel have at its inception blood on its hands...yes,most countries do including mine.Shall we give America back to the various Indian tribes,I think not,and neither will Israel ever return the land it views as Israeli(the west bank might be negotiable)to the Palestinians.
Your assertion that America holds Israels chain will be disproved once the Iranians get close to acquiring a Nuke...no power on earth will stop the Israelis from destroying that capability...and given the public posturing of the Iranians ...who could blame them(besides you obviously).

Meatcleaver,

The birth of Israel is directly related to the turning their eyes away and the annihilation of 6 million of the jewish people by your country.

Not strictly true but partly true, du to European guilt.and the Palesrtinian Arabs were made to pay for thge NAZI crimes. The zionists were actually planning the birth of Israel for decades before the war and encouraging European Jewish legal and illegal immigration into the area, which was what upset the cultural balance and started the conflict that became ourt and out war in 1947. Before the zionist intervention in the region, Arabs and Jews spoke each otheres languages, mixed freely and lived in mixed communities.

When was the last time you were in Israel to make these statements about how the communities are?

You go read yours, because your wrong.  Your position is quite clear.  Western democracies are oppressors, and theocratic monarchies and dictatorships that deny the holocaust are the good guys.  Israel should disband their country and give it back to the Arabs, because the Arabs don't have any land of their own.

lusciouslips19 -> RE: The Great Debate Tonight!!!!! Hell yeah! (9/27/2008 12:08:09 PM)

I really dont think you are a big fan of the Arab people. How many Arab friends do you have? When have you fought for Arab nations through demonstrations and charity donations and fighting tirelessly for their cause? This is more about you criticising a group of people you dont like.

You're putting words into my mouth because you can't answer the facts. Western democracis might be democracies for their own people but not in foreign policies.

It would be nice if people could get back to the issue at hand, which is the debate.

Here's my take of the debate...

McCain....Elect me because what I plan to do, is based on what I've already done.
I have the resume, and experience, with the record to back it up.

Obama.....I will do this, I will do that, I will do the other, even thou I haven't done much of anything legislative, except take time off to run for higher office, in the last 8 years. Oh yeah, education is so important to me, I ran the Annenberg Challenge in Chicago, and we all know how much that improved Chicago schools.[8|]

How can anyone say Obama is articulate, with the amount of um's, ah's and er's he uses?

If only all of us could be as impartial as you.

There are times I read your posts and just can't figure out who you support.

[sm=pigsfly.gif]

And I'm really sorry for you, RML, if your view of partisanship is that it must always trump intellectual honesty.

    Ok.  Resume hijack [:D]

I see.  Intellectual honesty, completely un-swayed by your personal views.

Just a coincidence you see Obama losing, speaking intellectually honestly, of course.

McCain blinks alot because of his injuries from being a pow. He also can't life his arms past shoulder height. He knows war, unlike Obama

why did everyone laugh at Perots running mate then?

(I think it had to do with the fact that at every turn the guy appeared entirely unprepared, incompetent and blatantly less than capable).

Is that so hard to believe, RML?  That someone might put an experienced opinion ahead of what they wish to see?  I apply the same standards to the candidates on this that I would judging a local speech and debate tournament.  If Obama had won the debate, as I think he did at Saddleback, that's how I would be calling it.

I'm guessing you've not run across any of my comments on our current President's speeches.

LookieNoNookie -> RE: The Great Debate Tonight!!!!! Hell yeah! (9/27/2008 6:08:54 PM)

Obama didn't win the debate...McCain lost it.

I think it's clear, that in the Middle East -- NO ONE is acting in Good Faith.

So you prefer glib over thoughtfulness? Or faulting a speaker because he has a slight stutter on occasion?

"Within-subject statistical modeling techniques were employed to investigate individual differences in the extent to which two possible indicators of processing time predicted changes in utterance complexity during spontaneous discourse for 10 children ages 7;1 to 10;1 with specific language impairments (SLI) who differed in receptive language abilities. The two indicators of processing time that were modeled were response latency and the use of a specific discourse marker (Verbal Pause) that provided children with additional time to respond. Longer response latencies were not a strong predictor of increased utterance length for any of the children. However, results indicated that children with better receptive skills used substantially more verbal pauses than children with both expressive and receptive deficits and that the use of these pauses was a strong predictor of increased utterance length for children with better comprehension skills."

In other words, Obama is not only more receptive to a speaker, but also has greater comprehension. Both were evident; see how often Obama agreed with McSame (receptivity) and how many times McSame completely lost the plot (comprehension).

And McSame' bullshit name and place-dropping was a total turnoff for me. I've been to some interesting places myself. And just because I spent 3 days in Vienna doesn't mean I'm an expert at Austrian history and politics.

Foreign Policy "experience" is way down the list of skillsets which I feel important for a President. All the geography and such can be learned. Intelligence, thoughtfulness, clarity of thought; these cannot be learned, and McSame isn't even in the same league as Obama.

Well subrob ,when I look at the comprehensive argument you have put forth here....I am herewith changing my vote.....you have convinced me...[8|]

bipolarber -> RE: The Great Debate Tonight!!!!! Hell yeah! (9/27/2008 8:00:25 PM)

It's been interesting to watch how the post-debate coverage has slowly morphed over the last 28 hours... It's gone from most of the media saying that it seemed that McCain won the debate by a slight margin, to a shift where they think, now, that Obama has actually come out ahead.

The basis for this is the effect of the highlights of the debate being played repeatedly. In those clips, McCain comes of as a very "old school" politician, while Obama's more measured responses are winning the day.

(Personally, I think it's still a wash. No one outright won or lost... I'm just saying'... it's interesting to see how the relatively new, 24 hour news cycle, Youtube, and other online news sources are altering people's perceptions of the debate itself.)

Those polls always favor the Democrat. Kerry and Gore won every debate according to those polls yet when the real polls come out several days later....it shows a different story.

Yes, I'm sorry but it is that hard to believe.

You are obviously very partisan, so even if you put forth a good-faith effort, and believe yourself being objective, that is probably not the case.

I'm partisan myself.  The fact I have complimented McCain at times does not offer any proof of my objectivity.  I wouldn't presume to declare myself impartial in any judgement between the two.

(but hey, look at the bright side, at least we're back on topic and don't have to debate Middle East history anymore [:D])
