Maybe this thread needs to be in random stupidity...

I have seen more than one profile that they say they have umpteen years of experience and they are a "true Master". These profiles talk about pagentry of d's and someone wanting to be involved in that. I usually think if you say it you must not be it. Has anyone met a dominant that when they said they were a "true master", they actually were?

I dunno what a true one is, but the closest I have met to my definition of Master hates the term saying "Master of anything means knowing it all, no one can know it all".

Hello luscious.

Yes perhaps its need  to be in random, but not your fault. :P
Honestly I don't know anyone locally that use a term like that, in fact around here things seem to have moved in the quite opposite direction where most have even stopped using the term 'Master' as a reaction to the many wannabes we find on the interweb ..... and that includes myself.
So 'true Master' sound silly to me and either people know what I am about or if they not, it cannot be helped and good riddance. :P

I don't think there is any such thing as a true master, a true sub or a true anything else.  We're all perceptions...our own perception of ourselves and others' perceptions of us.  I think people write that (doms and sub/slaves alike) because they want to sound experienced or serious or knowledgeable...something like that.  I've seen many submissive profiles state that they want only experienced doms.  Plus, how many posts have been on the boards from subs asking if so and so is a "true" dom?  To me, it's all a load of crapola.  If I get along with X and he gets along with me...our interests align to some degree, the physical attraction is there and we both are looking forward to exploring some of our kinks with each other, I don't care how much experience he has or doesn't have.  If we want to make it lasting, he's most likely going to err on the side of caution.  And I don't have ANY problems speaking my mind.  I'm not a "I have to do it because Master told me to" kinda girl.

But, to answer your question, yeah, I have.  He wasn't all blustery about it, just very matter of fact.

I believe the ones that are real to me are the ones that would never call themselves a "true Master". They have a humbleness about them and don't strut about with a puffed out chest. My Master does not seek to be called Master by anyone but me, nor to be thought of as master by anyone else.

I agree for the most part, but the problem becomes...what's real to you may not be real to someone else.  That's why this whole "real" or "true" debate gets so heated.  We all have our own definitions of what is real or true.  For one, it may be someone who takes care of all her needs and for another it may be someone who beats her on a regular basis.

And the same question can be asked of subs or slaves.  I know you've seen those debates.

True and due to the abiguity of the term whats real or true can only be seen in someone who is real or true to themselves which would instantly illiminate a large number of both doms and s-types due to falling into the trap that their is one true way and quoting articles, books or other people to prove it.

I don't think of myself as "True Master", but I guarantee that I'll be memorable!

What gets to me is the people that say, "I was born to be a Dom/me because I am good at giving orders."  Um, something is missing here - LOL.  I have been training a novice Dom that keeps asking, "So how do I become a true Dom?  Ignore the woman's feelings?"

Some who say that they are a true Master are.  However, that doesn't mean that they will be a "good" Master to just any sub.  It takes mutual interests, likes and dislikes, chemistry, etc.  I would rather have someone find out how "true" I am by getting to know more about me than to post something like that in my profile.  I have enough people believing I can't be a true anything because I cannot wear high heels!

This is my sentiment as well.  Which I think applies to life in general.  If you have to brag about it or randomly point it out, most likely you're not all that.

It's just a huge turn off when a man chest-thumps and tries to pull rank because of his self-annointed status as a master or dominant. <Gag>

I knew a guy who considered himself to be a 'true master' and a 'skilled dominant'. Unfortunately, he would comment on that fact constantly- the type of person who could NOT have a conversation without patting himself on the back. Starting any type of conversation with the man was a trainwreck- you could never get a word in edgewise.

Napoleon complex in my opinion. ^_^ He rarely lived up to all of the hype.

I'm not anything to anybody that I'm not in a relationship with. The interplay between us will tell what we are to each other, friend, lover, Dom, sub, victim, perpetrator, whatever.

To claim that I am everything to every lady out there ... pretty damn ridiculous and arrogant of anyone, don't you think?

When someone bellows"I AM MASTER BLAH BLAH A TRAINED MASTER OF THE OLD GUARD".

I always think who are they that trained you, who appointed you, how much training did you get and where is your certificate of authenticity? IF you are a karate master you have gone through years of training through stages of criteria and tests? Now if you are a 3rd degree black belt, Or whatever level to be considered a Master I may call you one without you owning me and I would have no problem with introducing you as such to others.

A true master would deliver what the Sub/Slave seeks in the relationship. It would not matter what the rest of the community thinks. Being honorable, fair, and consistent would be the top 3 traits to have. It would have to be experienced in a real time relationship to see if it is there. A profile just could not describe it, for anyone seeking a master.

The ones who are genuine have play partners, relationship partners, and acquaintances willing to vouch for them.  They don't need to do their own PR campaigns.
