With the election going on, put that aside for a moment, and lets see how we feel about President Bush's performance in the last eight years.
Give me three good things and three bad things.

Hmmm ... well he's cleaned up a lot of brush on his ranch so I give him an "A" for landscaping.

Lemme think....

He'll die someday
He could get hit by a truck
The power could go out nationally while he's talking to us

Okay....now the bad stuff....

Mix and match

While he's been president we haven't had to hate a nice person.
Big Oil certainly got their money's worth.

Why didn't he ever go shooting with Dick Cheney?

For those who cannot think of three things good vs bad, just evaluate like these members did.

Good thing: He can't be elected ever again!!! (this has got to be the number one good thing)

Bad thing: We gotta pay for his retirement

As much as I can't stand him, he did handle 9/11 fairly well. Unfortunately he went downhill fast afterwards.

I really hate to dwell on negatives, so here's the positives:

He's funny as hell. He should do stand up. Can't you hear it now, in a Rodney Dangerfield voice "I can't get no respect, people misunderestimate me".

He makes Sarah Palin look smart.

He's leaving.

He will go down as one of the worse Presidents in US history.

The good news is, we won't have him in office much longer.

Let's see Hoover is no longer at the top of the worst ever list.2)There are still tattered remnants of the Constitution remaining.3) Any parent can truthfuly tell any child(no matter how challenged educationally speaking said child is) "you too can be President".
Those are the good things. After looking at this list,is there really any need to choose 3 bad things?

I think it's very telling that of all the posts only one made an attempt to answer the question posed by the OP, lots of generalities, no specifics.  Could it be that people just hate Bush because it's "in"?   At least someone might have been passionate about Iraq...Afganistan,..only one veto in eight years, he showed true leadership after 911 (as has been said here)  he reorganized the CIA and FBI and Armed Forces Intel that was decimated under Clinton via Garalick, and now they are actually working together and sharing knowledge.  Nice too, that there has not been an attack on American soil since 9/11...Gosh here are lots of things I woud say deserve comment...pro/con Gitmo..??  "hmiliation and torture" of prisonser with panty hose ( I know guys that pay for that)..there has to be more than "he talk funny, or good riddance, whatever...?

Cory you are giving Bush credit for what didn't happen on his watch...namely a 2nd terrorist attack on American soil.....beautiful.Can you prove in any way shape or form the absence of such an attack was due to something he initiated?Or are you merely giving him credit for good fortune and luck.

Would love to answer your question, but my security clearance was cancelled after I left the military..and it was not at the level that would have given me access to CIA, FBI or military Intel. You might read some of the essays on how Bush via the Patriot Act has broken down the regulations put into effect when the democrat party controlled the House twenty years ago.
I hope you don't go through life thinking that everytime the hardworking and unsung hero agents perform some clandistine penetration of a terror cell they are going to post it on CM?  Or maybe you think the radical Islamist terrorists have fallen in love with our beautiful country and its people and decided they really don't want to hurt us, our economy, our way of life with active terrorism.  Jeeez...
If you believe that...there is a bridge east of where those Towers used to stand that might be for sale.

Let me guess corysub, you're a member of the 101st Keyboard Kommando Brigade?

Did you learn all that lingo from watching '24'?  Is that a great show or what?

You guys are a riot!  Yes, you've caught onto our game, we're all anti-Bush because it's the 'in' thing to do.  We're busted!

We're talking about the worst president in American history.  I'm supposed to find THREE good things that he did?  I don't know who was the second-worst president in American history (maybe Warren Harding?  or that idiot Buchanan?), but whoever it was, that person isn't close.

Nice too, that there has not been an attack on American soil since 9/11...

I'm taking it that you're not going to count the attacks on the US Embassy by Al-queda operatives in Yeman? Any reason why you're the only one who doesn't consider the US Embassy to be American soil since everyone else, including terrorists, most certainly do?

Okay, to the OP:

The good:

Bush signed the Amber alert bill.
In the days immediately following 9/11 he was pretty much decisive and presidential. I think he did mostly the right things for the right reasons at that time.
His ranch is green which is walking rather than talking and something which I can appreciate as a conservationist.

The bad:
The Patriot Act signatories which shits all over the Constitution he swore to uphold.
Failed to ask for Donald Rumsfeld's resignation in a timely manner.
Lied about WMD's not just to US citizens, but to the rest of the world as well which in turn made them hate our president and lose us respect and credibility as a nation. I don't have to like or respect Bush to have a great deal of respect for the office he holds and like it or not, as a citizen of this country, he's still my president and, for me, that has meaning. That said, that Patriot Act has wording within in that would absolutely allow Bush to suspend elections and enact martial law so until we actually have the election on the 4th and determine our next CIC, I won't be resting all that easy until he's officially out.
