People enjoy discussion. Not so much "just reading." People come to the forums to post their thoughts (whatever they may be) and then discuss them with others, not to just read previous posts. There are other sites out there if someone is looking to just read essays - the boards are for chat, and discussion.

To me it's not really fair that when new posters come to the boards they aren't given the same opportunity for discussion that previous posters got to have. And i do see how when a new person posts a new thread, they get told to "search and read old threads", and then if they do just that, and decide to add a new comment, then they get told "quit reviving old threads." Basically they're being told that they can't contribute at all, simply because they weren't around when the topic was discussed previously.



That's pretty much what i would have written, but UniqueRaven wrote it for me (get out of my head, UniqueRaven!).

People come here for many reasons.  If they simply want an answer to a FAQ, then going through the archives is probably the most efficient solution.  However, many of us come for the purpose of engaging in a discussion.  The participation is just as important as the answers to the question.  For those people, simply reading the archives is NOT an adequate solution.

Let's be mindful that MANY people fall into that latter category.

Not simply agreeing with, or rehashing 3 year old OPs & and replies leaves with us the protocol of addressing the necromancers reply as if it was a new OP. . . . which means at this point, a new reader has to sort through 34 pages to find the new OP 4 pages back.

If the only valid justification for a necro is to pose a “slightly different question”, which is paramount to a new OP, shouldn’t that be in a new thread instead of hiding on page 29 of 34 page 3 year old thead by an inactive member? This thread is just damn silly and annoying.

“A slightly different question” deserves a slightly different new thread IMO.

I don’t care how pretty LA’s legs are, or how much I may agree or disagree with her on other topics. She was right and the necromancer should have “read the 29 page thread for insights rather than revive a 4 month old thread”. . . and I add, "or start a new thread so readers can find the new OP".

I don't see a good answer for it. If a newer poster does start a new thread that has been done before there will often be someone chastising them for it and suggesting that they use the archives.

Gotta say I have responded to the OP without paying attention to the date before and probably will again.

I actually see your point in this post, but the question I have after reading it is, is the OP really better off with a limited perspective such as this, rather than understanding the why's and why not's of what is happening? Or would a broader understanding of what's going on be more helpful in easing his frustration?


This has little to do with if you are a slave or not... it has everything to do with common curtesy which is no longer so common. How much does it take to go into the reply area and select a pre-written answer like "No thank you" This is nothing more than a show of the attitudes of the majority of slaves/women here that are focused on me me me and don't care about anybody else. The standard woman is only interested in laying around the house and being sexually available, they don't want to serve, they don't want to do any housework, they are totally worthless as submissives or slaves. They are selfish as well as self centered. Then they complain endlessly about getting one liners and cut and past letters... Duh! Why should I spend hours on a letter to a woman that will most likely be rude or most likely not even answer? The women on this board are definately not worth the time and effort because of their low caliber and lack of integrity. But in case one does return a letter, I will go to the max in sharing communications and making shre she is aware of what she is getting into. That is usually when they dissappear and don't bother to say a word... agan how much does it talk to show a little bit of good character by saying "Sorry this isn't what I am looking for?"

Apparently it is far more integrity than the women here can attain.

I used to belong to a board where thread necromancy was a no no, and this is what was recommended. Start a new thread (so people aren't replying to a 3 year old OP or trying to find the new post in a monster 30+ page thread), but give a link to the old one.
Easy peasy, but you are right, it won't happen.

That said, I've never seen the "read the old threads" reply on a thread where the OP has noted that they have searched, but want to discuss a particular point or couldn't find the answer to their question. Someone may post a link and suggest that the OP read it, but that's about it.

Exactly right Wyld, as previously stated in this thread. People rarely attack those making a genuine, polite attempt to get their info. And yet the usual white knights rode in to uphold the mews of the auto whiners.
 
Maybe we need a grade school forum that you have to attend for a year before you can run with the big dogs. Just so you learn not to bitch so much about the actual forum and maybe get on with actually discussing the subject matter.

I receive interest messages at least two or three times a week and I actually AM one of those women who provides a "polite response," to each and every one of them, unless the initial message is disrespectful.  Just today in fact I was messaged by a couple looking for online play and my exact words to them were, "Thank you very much for your offer but I have no interest in online play or couples.  Good luck in your search!"

This is almost verbatim the "polite response" that I give to every offer that arrives in my inbox and I modify it depending on the situation (male, female, transgender) and my own limitations that I know will clash with what their profile indicates they are looking for.

Sometimes I get no response to my own, or they respond with a general, "Thanks anyway," "Ok, thank you for responding," etc. etc. etc.

Other times the response is, "But WHYYYYYYYYY?!?!?!?!"  And I will usually not answer or politely reiterate my first response.

But at least 1 out of every 10 messages that I politely decline as you are encouraging members to do, the author comes back with, "You ugly fat bitch!  You don't deserve my dominance!  You're gonna die alone with a branch in your ass!  I'm gonna hunt you down, rape the shit out of you and leave you bleeding by the side of the road!'

I choose to block these users and report them for abuse immediately but THAT is why many people don't respond to messages if they're not interested.  They simply don't want to deal with the potential crazies that are on this site.  Therefore, as others have said before me, no response IS a response.

Up until recently, I hadn't had the chance to experience these sorts of things first hand...but damn if some people who have full profiles written (trying to seem normal on them, no less) aren't simply psycho.

I can't fathom the energy to reply to any of them unless they happen to specifically meet the criteria you'd be looking for (content of the greeting message included). I wouldn't even want to risk the chance of getting a wacko response.
