I think I'm going to zip my lips in future re how I think Dommes should do their pictures, TTJ.  My hide is still suffering a little as a result of earlier comments and where they led.  Besides, I can't seem to do a face pic of myself that doesn't make me look like I should be in a secure institution.

Suffice to say that I like that picture and for the reasons stated above.  Mind you, I had no idea that those cup cakes were resting on anything other than a coffee table!

I have had folks ask me about "the white round thingys" next to me and that can be a good way to start a conversation.

At this time in our lives conversation is about what I can handle since anything resembling play or relationship with another person would be unfair given we don't know what my job search this fall/winter/spring will result in so who can say where I'll be in a year.

Yet, Dommes are forever complaining that their inboxes are flooded with one-line comments from subs who'd like to do x or y, or have x or y done to them. Surely there's a connection here? I mean, if a Domme has herself pictured with a whip, what would she expect other than a street-full of men write in saying nothing more than "whip me, yes!!" ?
There are quite a few Dommes whose profiles end with something along the lines of `E-mail me now, you pathetic worm' and whose journals are full of rants about the low-life so-called-subs who send them one-line, wanky messages.  Well, duh!  (I know that all Dommes get these messages but some are literally asking for it.)

I'm not going to pull my punches here.

Awoman who writes like you say above and has a fetish image on her profile is an idiot for then complaining about anyone writing her in said fashion.

I don't know about the rest of you but idiots are not attractive to me at all.

First things first.  Tammyjo, I never knew those were cupcakes on your slave.  I honestly had never thought to ask.

Now this:

PsyVamp wrote: There are not many people that are going to pay for fetish / porn which features plain looking dominant women in their jogging pants or old blue jeans.

But this is true of all porn.  Nobody's going to pay for porn featuring plain women in ordinary clothes having sex (kinky or otherwise) with ordinary-looking guys.  There's a fundamental artificiality to porn: there's no background, no personality, no interaction.  A real person is the sum of many parts, and most of those parts don't appear in porn.  All porn has is the visuals so it's unsurprising that those parts get exaggerated.

Complaining that porn is unrepresentative of real BDSM is like sitting in a traffic jam complaining that Formula 1 is unrepresentative of real driving.  For me, the question is not, `Why does porn not reflect real life?' but, rather, `Why would anyone expect it to?'  Why do so many guys seem to expect that BDSM will be like porn?  (It seems to be mainly guys, though there seem to be a lot of women who say that they were initially put off BDSM by the porn image of it)  Is it because they see BDSM porn before they see the reality so accept it as the norm?

I guess it's not just that everyone on the internet is an asshat -- I guess a woman walking down the street in fetish-Domme gear would get more than a little unwelcome attention.

Complaining about the porn isn't necessarily usless.  I think some would be surprised at how many just starting out think in wiitwd really do believe it's like it is in the flicks.  Enough people saying that it isn't really does have an effect, even if it's just for some to do a little more research and get to the reality of it.

On to the comment about the fetish wear.  Just like Tammyjo selected a main photo of who she is and what she hopes to portray, so do the rest of us.  After having coming to know her through these boards a bit, I can tell you she doesn't do the fetish wear.  Still, you have to realize that some of us are.  MsS has a great pic on here and receives many compliments on hers, even if she has to sort through some of the not so complimentary mail that goes along with it.  Point being, it's conveying what she wants.  Personally, I picked the one I did because, if you see Me at a BDSM event, that's who you are going to see.  There's even a good chance that I might be wearing the same corset.  It's not that hard to pick Me out from a crowd if you want a chance to say hello.

I've been in the situation where I've ended up being in the regular public in the Domme wear.  The last time was just last weekend.  I was dressed for an event, but a semi-urgent need for Me to run to a store arose.  It wasn't practical for Me to go back to My hotel room, figure out how to get Myself out of My leather, change clothes, run the errand, return, accomplish the even more difficult task of getting Myself back into My leather (I can't untie or tie any type of corset on Myself), and be on time for a presentation that was starting in an hour.   No, I didn't receive any unwanted attention.  The only comment I received about anything was from the check out girl and that happened to be about My purse, which looks like a high heeled boot with chains for the straps.

And here my question was "Why isn't real life more like porn?*"

Porn is geared towards male fantasies. If the guy in question has no practical experience with real life, I think it stands to reason that he'll hope/assume that his fantasies and the movies he's seen have some basis in truth, until such time as reality smacks him the fuck down. Only the most pessimistic would assume that reality is the opposite of fantasy before obtaining any real-time exposure.

*That's not to say that there isn't a lot of absolutely gawdawful FemDom/malesub porn out there
