Really, all the buzz isn't about what Joe the plumber thinks or says, it's about what Obama told the guy when he went through Joe's neighborhood, offering cash money in exchange for votes.

"Spread the wealth"

Joe  can't even afford to but the bizz, he just one day hopes too. Who gives a shit what an un licensed plumber thinks?

Is this the state of political debate in this country now? Any knucklehead who stands in front of a microphone can  sway people?

I mean....... WHAT THE FUCK?

I will pretend to go along with Obama's tax plan, keeping in mind it is a plan and he can only propose it he cannot unilaterally create it.
So we raise the taxes on the " Joe Plummer's " of the country. Fair enough, take his money and give it to the " little folks". So now the Joe Plummers are feeling the crunch and some will fold their businesses, but more likely " the little people" will absorb the tax hike anyway. Joe Plummer will raise his prices to offset the tax hike, and the " little people" will be paying $350 for Joe Plummer to come out and snake their toilet.

In the meantime, my big strapping 40 year old next door neighbor who is on disability for some unheard of mental condition, who consumes a 30 pack+ a day beer habit ( $ 700/month ), who was given a mortgage for $ 1250 with condo fees of  $ 300, whose only income is his SSI check for $ 950 is facing forclosure and can't figure out why he " ain't getting some kind of funding to help me out of my bind" will be given some of " Joe Plummer's cash to drink up.  Guess who my neighbor is voting for ? He can't lay enough praises on Obama, this tax plan has him drooling like a dog. More money for contributing absolutely nothing to society. And he is just one of a good percentage of Americans who will get this money.

Keep in mind I am a Libertarian so ANY taxation is against my core beliefs.  I work two jobs to keep a roof over my head and food on MY table, not any one elses. If I chose to help out the less fortunate it should be at my discretion, not the governments.  Not a popular position around here, but there it is.

OK, Sanity you can see me, so lets for one instance quit hepping folks to our wisdom.

Obama had cash money for votes? Or he was offering a 'sort of thingie' for votes, or what?

What does McCain offer except blood, sweat, toil and tears, and we aint going to be at war.............(or for a hundred years)

You be careful of me, slick; and I will of you.

I appreciate your plain-spokenness, Ron, I really do. And I apologize for the delay, but if you'll kindly tune into ESPN you'll see the reason why...

I will be back with you just as soon as I possibly can.

Your friend, Tom

Alright Ron -

I linked to the video itself numerous times in this thread already in which Senator Obama is clearly bragging to the voters who are surrounding him how if he is elected he will begin "spreading the wealth around".

Now if you'll have a look at this analysis of his tax plan you will see as plainly as you spoke that Senator Obama fully intends to back his words with action. He intends to have the thugs down at the IRS raid those who have earned a certain degree of wealth in order to financially reward the low and middle-income people to whom he is counting on to put him over the top in this election.

Cash for votes.

If this works out for him, what's to stop the next Democrat who wants to be President (or Republican for that matter) to promise even more cash for people's votes. How carried away can these politicians get with this madness? Where is the end to it.

Don't be silly.

With these prices, so few people shop that those stores aren't worth robbing.

I can imagine the scandal now

"Obama wins by offering the majority of voters more attractive policy options"

How will the democratic process recover from such a thing?

What's wrong with it?

What if someone who isn't quite as well off as you are hires someone to put a gun to your head and demand some of your belongings.

It's only fair, right? You have more, so that makes it okay.

That's what you're arguing! The federal government taking bribe money is no different! They use the threat of force and then actual force if anyone fails to comply, it is absolutely no different.

Some taxes have to be raised for necessities, sure. But what Obama is promising is flat out thievery.

First, you have just defined the Republican Administration for the last 8 years only they did not just rob me but forcibly robbed the U.S. Treasury to pay and subsidize  the bank and petroleum industries. Theft, lies and scandals are the only legacy of the present administration. As George Will said "Obama could not have conceived of the degree of government spending George Bush has imposed on the nation in 2008."

Secondly, having voted Republican until 2004 makes me sad and ashamed.  I will vote straight Democat until the day I die and will try to make further amends by going back practicing law on the behalf of the members of the middle class and against insurance companies, utility companies and big business in general.  I will put my money where my mouth is; what are you willing to do?

Thirdly, assuming arguendo that Obama will do as you say (which I totally doubt) the rich and well off owe the middle class a chance (those fortunate enough to be in the middle class to remain in the middle class and those aspiring to get into the middle class to have that opportunity).  If Obama does what you say (which I doubt) at least I have voted for him .  I never voted for the dark sinister leaders of big business but they sure called the shots to my detriment  for the last 8 years.  In Michigan with the Republican stranglehold the only way you can have a say in your government is to buy stock in an insurance company and then vote the stock at the annual meetings.

Fourthly, I have not been this angry since I got out of the Marines in 1970.  I have never felt so intellectually raped by anything resembling what this administration has done.  After 7 years at the U of M I consider myself marginally intelligent but Bush hoodwinked me and a lot of others to the detriment of the next 100 years.  Many people consider  hoodwinking by politicians a capital offense.

Fifth, if all else fails what is the modern equivalent of the Bastille?

Sanity -> RE: Joe The Plumber: Obama Tax Plan 'Infuriates Me' (10/17/2008 8:52:12 PM)

That's one thing I dislike about John McCain - I wouldn't put it past him. You think Senator McCain could pit one class against another and buy more votes than Obama, if he tried?

Cheaper, more abundant energy would help keep inflation in check, keeping the store prices lower so people can shop more.

What's Obama's energy plan again? Handing out tire gauges? Clean coal?

Do you believe in it?

What about gasoline and fuel oil. What's his plan for that.

Oh yeah, he said we can't eat as much as we want anymore...

Nice.

S,

First, you just quoted not a point, but a joke in return for a joke by another poster.

Second, Obama has already laid out his plans (it not to anyone's satisfaction, at least as well as McCain's), and rather to list them endlessly here for you to ignore, visit his website if you're truly interested, or read any number of articles on the topic from an extremely wide range of publications.

But then you weren't really interested in those plans anyway.

Sanity, so what you're saying is that you're not voting for Obama.  Okay, I finally get the point of this entire thread.

I challenge you to stop attacking me personally and to actually begin arguing on Senator Obama's behalf.

You can't do it, can you?

Tell us in basic terms what Obama intends to do regarding vital gasoline and oil supplies, and fuel oil supplies for winter heat that so many Americans depend on.
