This thread is getting long in tooth. It's nigh time someone rears up to call Joe and / or Governor Palin Nazis, isn't it?

Isn't that the way it goes?

Or me... seems I've been called every name in the book in this thread *(save for that one).

So far.

The numbers were good for most of Bush Jr.,production is way up.People are working harder than ever, but wages have been flat for the last 7 years while inflation climbs ever higher. That`s a real life pay cut.

Unemployment was at a historical low and taxes were lower too. That is effectively a pay hike for the nation.

quote:

If you factor in the mountain of debt Reagan racked up(the largest in history,at the time),his numbers don`t look all that good.

The national debt was racked him higher and faster under Clinton than under Reagan.

quote:

Plus he killed the alt.fuel programs and our safe energy future, and he hired and armed bin-laden and let Afghanistan fester.

On the contrary, we actually had an energy policy under Reagan. That was brand new with his administration. And at the time, bin Laden was our ally against Russian aggression.

quote:

Clinton payed down that debt and got us on the right footings for the future. We were paying down our debt and creating a surplus. The faith and credit of our government and country were improving and were tracking upward.

And Clinton grew the economy, and made a stable financial environment, and grew the middle class.Savings were going up,consumer debt was going down, and consumer confidence was high.

Bull. He was increasing the debt (by over a trillion dollars), his mismanagement caused the tech bubble in our economy and he was ignoring terrorism which lead to 9/11.

quote:

Only to have all that squandered and then some,by another "shoot from the hip" con.

Again, bull. He created a mess economically and politically that Bush had to clean up. Talk about being behind the eight ball......

quote:

There`s a damm good reason why most folks blame the cons over the curent mess.

Yeah, they believe the lies of a liberal media and drink the kool-aid. Some are smart though. That is why the liberals have a lower approval rating than Bush does.

In the interests of fair comparison, given the antipathy apparent and that Obama has been accused of being a Marxist....

Not really no

McCain is a decent enough sort, led astray by a bunch of nutters who seem to have thought they could pull the same stuff they did for Bush (and against McCain) and get away with it again

Palin is simply too immature and unsophisticated to play in the big leagues; an innocent abroad who has been manipulated by the bunch of nutters, and ruined for their games. Who knows, ten years from now she might have been ready, but not now.

And Joe the aspirant plumber - just another innocent abroad, manipulated by the nutters and ruined too.

But in the end, all the schemes and games and deceits are irrelevant to the campaign, however disappointing they are in general and however destructive they have been to these three particularly. The plain fact is that the Republicans have not fielded candidates that come anywhere near Obama in terms of quality, and have not fought a campaign that comes anywhere near Obama in terms of appealing to the voter.

Name calling is something that can be left with those who feel frustrated by the disadvantages with which they are saddled on this occasion.

It really doesn't matter what you think about any of Obama's policies, as he will be our next POTUS (Thank the Gods). Hopefully for the next 8 years. It is my fervent hope that Neoconism be buried right next to National Socialism on the ashheap of hiistory.

NOPE, first of all if you were called whatever name it was, slick, you would stand alone.

Next, Joe the plumber may or may not be a nazi, but that has little to do with the discussion, you all sent up this trial ballon sayin joe the plumber,

Well, guess what?  he ain't and even if he was, as a business owner he still aint.

This is kicking a dead horse in the ass, Obama is gonna be president, it wil be a rout in congress, now how the fuck do we deal with it, all us dipshits that agree that first of all the checkbook has the effect of law, and a president has    rather put us in it..........

and so on.

You know, I hope to one day fuck a porn starlet. After looking at my income I don't think  I make enough money

so that John McCain's tax plan would help me realize My dream.

Perhaps if I had some media attention..............

I received a call today from a plumber for Obama.  I am not joking.  For the past three days there have been messages.  Two from McCain (because my son is registered as "independent), and one plumber for Obama.

I would truly like to rebut all of the fallacies in your post but there were so many and there are only so many hours in the day.

Translated: I don't have a clue what I am talking about and as such can't address your points.

quote:

So I decided to settle on this gem of wisdom.  Considering you just bragged about the economics courses you took, I think you need to go back and crack a few of those books.

May I suggest Henry Hazlitt's classic book Economics in One Lesson? It is an easy read and is directly applicable to the conversation at hand.

quote:

A budget surplus or a budget deficit pertains to the current yearly budget.  It only relates to the national debt in that it adds to or subtracts from that debt.

Clinton's budgets eventually produced surpluses. Reagan and Bush consistently ran yearly budget deficits.  Those deficits produced a doubling of the national debt during Reagan's eight years and another doubling of it during Bush's tenure.

They really didn't. Let me explain. Understanding why and how Clinton ran up the national debt requires understanding two concepts of what it consists of. The national debt is made up of public debt and intergovernmental holdings. The public debt is debt held by the public, normally including things such as treasury bills, savings bonds, and other instruments the public can purchase from the government. Intergovernmental holdings, on the other hand, is when the government borrows money from itself--mostly borrowing money from social security.

Now, the public debt went down, but the intergovernmental holdings went up by a far greater amount - and, in turn, the total national debt (which is public debt + intergovernmental holdings) went up. There is where he screwed us.

When Clinton (and others) said that he had paid down the national debt, that was patently false - the national debt went up every single year. What Clinton did do was pay down the public debt. But he paid down the public debt by borrowing far more money in the form of intergovernmental holdings.

In short he transferred the debt from one cup to another and said that he had a surplus. But that "surplus" was all  borrowed money. He didn't actually pay anything off, just engaged in the smoke and mirrors that liberals are known for.

Jeff, I think you got potential.

Thing is; if you are gonna sit there from the Reagan years with tax liens against your ass, you could see how all us rich folk could get a little huffy; no?

You ungrateful bastard.

Pay the shit you owe, it is patriotic.
