wow i knew realized how many things i'm afraid of until i read this thread. About the only fear i don't agree with is the clown one. i like clowns :)

my biggest fears are failing Master.
Death before i get to see my son again.

As MizSuz says
Long term unmanagable pain with no end but death in sight.

All things I have endured and surmounted to some degree or another. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't fearful I may have to endure again.

Forgetting the people and places that I love, and the wonderful memories that get me through the hard times. Losing hope.

We have lately had some awesome threads about expectations, questions that should be asked---now I pose to My esteemed colleagues--what are your greatest fears?

But seriously, my greatest fear is not controling my fears and worries.

I don't actually fear much. Most of the unpleasant things that could happen to me or mine are outside my ability to control, i.e. drunken drivers, sudden onset of terminal illness, etc., and so I tend to ignore those possibilities and concentrate on those areas in which I can exert my influence. Within the realm of that which I control outright, or at least have some impact, I fear harming others, especially those who depend on me, through carelessness.

Honestly, I'm pretty zen about the whole thing. On even days till the 28th of the month, I worry about whether there will be enough time to finish all the things I am bound to... on odd days until the 27th of the month, I believe that the Universe wouldn't have put me in the task unless I was intended to finish it, and on every day between the 28th and the end of the month, I believe that there is no next day, that if I died, I would have done everything that I was supposed to do, and that there is no better life than the one I have.

It seems to work, and provides sufficient outlet for the anal-retentive-obsessive-compulsive (AROC) Virgo side of me to have its way.

*smiles*

Thank you for the wonderful words of encouragement.

Wow, this is heavy. I believe everything I need I already have. I believe whatever I project to the universe i.e fear, hatred, love, kindness, etc, will be reflected back 100 fold. I believe there is no failure in life, only a series of lifes lessons. I believe there is ample time to complete whatever I was put here to do, whatever that might be.

I believe the fact that you've dedicated your life shows purpose and you've already touched many beyond your wildest imagination. Stop, understand, and rejoice in life given you. Enjoy whatever time there is, whatever way possible. Enjoy life.

3 things..........

'abandonment

and

rejection'...

yet i will act in such a way to 'test' to see if they will stand by me...so i can then learn it is safe to

'trust'...........................

I fear we will elect a president who has no experience in war; but who wants to be a "war hereo". He will surround himself with others who are of the same mind set; with one token "esteemed general" who he will trot out to give credence to his sword waving; but whose counsel will be ignored. Then I will sit at my computer each morning to see if my buddies who are fighting that war lived to send another email about how fucking stupid that president is.

Oh shit...it already happened.

Biggest Fear: Not getting into graduate or doctoral school. All these years of hard work for nothing. I also fear never finding out what I want in life since I want everything...

1. psychiatric hospitals (think this stems from parents letting me watch One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest when I was 8 or 9)

2. Not being able to breathe - which really sucks because I used to love breath play until one bad experience.

3. dolls...big ones with glassy eyes that shine in the dark.

LOL.... yeah it did. And worse part is, they're trying to pass a law allowing non US born (Gov of Cal) to be allowed to run as President. So much for all that bragging about being out of the Kennedy spot light and worries.

Now there's another bigger fear..... Him thinking it's just another script in a movie!

MY biggest fear above any other is dying old and lonely... I hate to be alone..So much that when someone asks me i tear up..It is one of my biggest fears.

Drowning is another fear of mine.

Not being able to provide for my son is a fear that I live with everyday..I hope I can provide the best for him and give what the world has to offer.

[grin] Wait until you get in. Those fears will seem trivial. One word: "Comprehensives"

Being rejected

Giving someone my entire heart and then being betrayed

Disapointing the ones I love

At least for me the dissertation was a piece of cake. After all, if I needed to I could try and try for nine years.

With the comprehensive, one failure and I was out of the program with three years of class work down the drain. At UTenn, the doctoral comprehensive is a week long with eight to ten hour days, and they can ask you any question concerning the field regardless of whether or not you had taken course work in it. Also any professor can submit questions whether or not you'd taken classes from him or her.

*shudders* My university called this the "qualifier" a make or break exam for PhD students. I always felt so sorry for those taking it and was thankful I had decided to stick with a masters.
