i'm not collared, but currently striving to reach that goal. i'm 'virtually' collared. i guess..
but i am in all senses, taken, collared, owned.. etc.

We don't use the term 'taken'. I was owned when I was his.

ExKat,

ExKat,

Well that will fal around the 5th standard deviation.

CP

Surely there must have been a "taken " phase prior to becoming his.

CP

Nope, the physical 'taking' took place after I was his. I became his when we decided to do the whole monogamy thing, second date.

My thinking is very similar or almost the same as what others have written.

Collared is an outward element that shows your commiment to your Lord/Lady.
Owned is how you feel.
Taken is when you are in a relationship and you are exploring the possibilies of what your relationship could be whether you are vanilla, chocolate, neopolitan, or mint chip.

HP,

grins, the line up is over on the right.

You guess? even virtual collars are important, but one must know if it is there or not.

The fact that someone is new to this website does not automatically mean they are new and/or clueless. They could have been talking to someone before who suggested that the s type check out the d type's profile and posts here. They also could have already done all the internal work required to know what they need in a relationship and having done so, been able to meet someone the first day here and after three days round the clock together decide this relationship is what fulfills them.

Time doesn't mean anything. And just because he collared me on the second meet doesn't mean it's a velcro one. We've been together over five years now.

what does one think if a submissive is under consideration for ownweship and collar " down the Road" should the submissive be given freedom to see other Dom/Dommes?

I'll admit I haven't read the thread so excuse if this has already been said. I feel a collar is a symbol of ownership and since that is what I truly want I feel that between the collar and the ring, the collar is the more valued token of the relationship. I've never collared someone. I'll do that either during my honeymoon or at a small ceramony sometime after the wedding.

Cheers,
Kevin

I think I'd be releasing him from consideration.

Myster,

would that ring and collar be from the same person?

I'm taken and owned in my heart. Sir has not collared me however.  A collar is very important to me, as well as, him so when hes ready to collar me and I'm ready to accept then we both will know its time and take that step till then I'll wait. I just see a collar as a sign that I'm in it for the long haul and plan on spending my life with someone. I see collars slapped on and off some submissives so fast and I dont quite understand that, but its not for me to judge ones life compared to mine.

The collar is the ultimate. The slave has committed to obeying and pleasing her master. The master has committed to controlling, teaching, training, and looking out for his slave.

Being married to Boss, that was in the traditional vanilla sense.  I have always been a free spirit - belonging only to myself....no one could "own" me.  Until I gave myself to Him.  So, to me, the terms "taken" "owned" and "collared" can be switched back and forth.  But, We are less formal.  :)

Collared has little meaning for Me since the way in which it is now used is a cyber created term. A collar is just another piece of equipment. If you are  looking for an outward sign of Ownership with Me it’s a double plug locking harness which fits securely and unnoticed under daily clothes.

Owned implies commitment and responsibility. I Own My property “legally” so there are serious considerations and consequences. (Yes there are two ways to legally Own a person)

Taken means just that; semi or fully volunteered to “be” taken. Sexually, mentally, spiritually as in basis for Ownership.

These terms are used quite differently in the current vast vanilla Ds/Sm context of so called Master/Mistress  sub/slave so I always take them with a grain of salt.

Enjoy your wonder-filled day

I am collared, and I do have to agree that it is more than just a piece of equipment.  It's a metaphor for something much more complex.  Every single one of us has a different notion of what it means to us, and in all of our minds they are completely true and relevant.  I was collared a few months into my relationship with my Dom.  However, there is still real life... I teach, and often times either I must wear it under my clothes, or it must be removed.  thankfully, my Dom understands , and to me, it's a complete need to have something "physical".  I have the mentality. I know I am owned.  But I am a very physical person, and i need something physical, something concrete to "hold" onto.  The collar is just that.  It is physical, it is concrete.  I can touch it, and know it.  My Dom and I are currently not living together, so in times when I am not in His presence it is a reminder of what I have, and how much more I have waiting for me.  :)
