Normally, I think I would find Sarah Palins latest answer to that question a bit embarrassing, sad and perhaps even humorous in a cringe inducing sort of way.... but with her answer during the debate and in other interviews where she expresses a desire to expand the role of the Vice President , a la Cheney, I find this response more disturbing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l40nrw3V3GA "...[The Vice President is] in charge of the U.S. Senate so if they want to they can really get in there with the senators and make a lot of good policy changes ..." NO, Sarah, the Vice President is NOT in charge of the Senate, he/she does NOT orchestrate policy changes via the legislative branch, because the Vice President, whether Cheney likes it or not, is NOT a part of the legislative branch. The only thing the VP does with the senate is break a tie. The founding fathers did NOT leave a lot of leeway and flexibility to grant the VP some sort of ruling hand over the senate. It is not the VP's job to "administer the plans" the Executive branch thinks are pressing. There is nothing for you to "tap into with that position". If you do not know what your job description is, are you really ready to assume that role?

And McCain's initial "response" to the credit market freeze-up was to announce as President he'd "fire the head of the SEC." Only problem......the President can't do that. Neither one of them knows the job.

In the recent past,the VP did relatively nothing,other than be there.They can break tie votes in the Senate,and some other small tasks like that. VP Gore was a pretty active VP and transformed the office into a more active participant in carrying out policy. VP Cheney has transformed the office too,kinda.In reality,he calls the shots while Bush plays the absentee CEO roll,showing up for photo ops and sitting at board meetings,but otherwise out to lunch,or golfing,or cutting brush while others run things. At this point puella,the VP is one of the main enablers of the president`s policy or at least,they should be and no longer just sits around waiting.

Well, legitimately, the VP can be given duties by the President (I am sure John Adams would have loved to have been of more use). Those duties however, remain of the executive branch...they cannot some how morph the VPinto the leader of the Senate... that would be the Senate Majority Leader's job (really, you would think the title alone would explain itself to Ms. Palin...). It is the expansion of powers, slyly (like with a jack-hammer in the case of Cheney) chiseling away the legitimacy and potency of the other, co-equal branches of government which is really troubling... The problem is that she really does not KNOW this...it is not the first time she has made this mistake, which makes me think it is something she would persue if in the role of the VP. Good God, y'all!

I think she heard the VP was the president of the Senate,and took it to mean that the VP literally ran the Senate. I believe Senate President, is just a title.Yes? You`re right about Palin being clueless about being clueless.She seems so damm sure that the VP runs the Senate and can`t wait to get in there and do things.Very funny if it wasn`t so frightening.

Seems to be working out for the staff....so I'm not complaining.
