Gosh.... I have to wonder.... have all the Palin bashers even read the wikipedia entry about her, or are they just piling on?   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarah_palin   She actually has a decent track record.

I admit she is not a "smooth" or "slick" a speaker as we are accustomed to, but should that  *really* be the way we judge a potential executive... or maybe judge by their past performance?

kittinSol -> RE: What does the Vice President Do???? (10/22/2008 6:04:11 AM)

It's her ignorance and repugnant politics that make people bash her, not her lack of training. Although she's getting better at appearing slick: obviously, the dog trainers are doing a good job of teaching her how to bullshit. Too late, though.

In the recent past, the VP did relatively nothing, other than be there. They can break tie votes in the Senate, and some other small tasks like that.

VP Gore was a pretty active VP and transformed the office into a more active participant in carrying out policy.

VP Cheney has transformed the office too, kinda. In reality,he calls the shots while Bush plays the absentee CEO roll, showing up for photo ops and sitting at board meetings, but otherwise out to lunch,or golfing,or cutting brush while others run things.

At this point puella, the VP is one of the main enablers of the president`s policy or at least, they should be and no longer just sits around waiting.

Don't forget (perhaps the two most important jobs of VP) -

Taking people hunting and shooting them in the face.

Ordering subordinants to reveal the identity of CIA operatives when their spouses challenge the doctored intelligence you use to justify going to war.

I think that about covers it.

You forgot one: the VP also manipulates intelligence reports to make sure we end up in a war with no end, with 4,000 + American troops dead, 250,000 Iraqi civilliand dead, and over 6,000,000 people displaced from their homes and a country whose infrastructure has been stomped into the dirt.

UncleNasty -> RE: What does the Vice President Do???? (10/22/2008 6:23:05 AM)

I have done only a cursory read of the US Constitution to find the answer to this question. Funny, I thought I knew with more specificity the answer to this question before it was aksed.

Article 2, which covers the executive, makes little to no mention of the VP. Article 1, Section 3, states:

"The Vice Preisident of the United States shall be President of the Senate, but shall have no vote, unless they be equally divided."

Are there other blanks that need to be filled in or is that it?

there is plenty to bash on both sides.  personally how a senator can manage to vote "present" 102 times in only two years is concerning to me.  since we hire them specifically to vote, should we take back a part of their pay for every time they fail to show up or simply vote "present" ?

kittinSol -> RE: What does the Vice President Do???? (10/22/2008 6:31:20 AM)

It's a different subject from what the VP does - create a thread on the subject, and you will find out the truth.

Uh.....

Let me say first of all that no person (except maybe Cheney, the self proclaimed Dark Lord) does all good or all bad when serving in office.

Having stated that:
Are you talking about how great of a job she did in charging rape victims, in the state with the highest rape stats in the country, btw, for the cost of the kit it takes for law enforcement to investigate and prosecute the rapist? Are you talking about the $20,000,000 dollar debt she left when she left her mayoral position in Wasilla, the meth capital of Alaska, population at the time of her mayorship less than 5,000 citizens, smaller than most of my local high schools, (including a $50,000 unauthorized expenditure to redecorate her office and a huge ice skating rink, for which there is now another investigation to see whether the fact that the same contractors who built that rink helped build her house...sort of like Ted Stevens... the guy she lately condemned for ethics problems)?

Are you talking about the great job she did in wrongly charging the State of Alaska for over $20,000 of travel expenses for her kids to attend fun events with her (these are the ones she was NOT allowed to charge the government, not the ones that went through), like going to daddy's snow mobile races? Are you perhaps referencing the great, mavericky job she did in appointing her her unqualified, high school girl friends to high political jobs (a la Heckuva Job Brownie) to ensure loyalty within her inner circle  (she learned the importance of firing upstarts who are not 100% in compliance with her wishes and greatness back in Wasilla... remember the librarian...)?

Maybe you are talking about the wonderful job she did in incurring the official state announcement by a by partisan committee (actually there were more republicans than democrats and the investigation was prompted by her own party members...way before she was put on the vp ticket) that found she had violated state ethics laws by using her position to intimidate subordinates into doing her will in a personal vendetta (and do not get side tracked with the line that as Gov, she is allowed to fire whomever she wants. That is absolutely true, and does not change, mitigate or really have anything to do with the separate charge of the ethics censure.)

Is that what you are talking about when you say we persecute Sarah Palin who was a great Governor, according to Wikipedia?

Maybe it is just the glamor cast by the witch doctor, keeping your eyes bedazzled by the denouncing of witches and shooing the evil demons off of ya (yea... she did that too..), which keeps you thinking she is a brand new, super clean, upstanding, super productive and capable maverick of an 'Executive'?

...and actually, I think that the one thing she DOES have going for her is that she IS a smooth and slick speaker... painfully ignorant 9 times out of 10 but still very slick and effective.

We choose someone to represent us. That takes a number of forms, not just voting.

Imagine a Senator running for re-election who ran on nothing more than "I voted everytime." Good luck with that!

puella -> RE: What does the Vice President Do???? (10/22/2008 6:38:44 AM)

DOH!  You are right, kittinSol... actually I think there were some threads on this topic, no?

kittinSol -> RE: What does the Vice President Do???? (10/22/2008 6:44:35 AM)

One hundred and fifty grand in clothing expenses???!!! Sarah Palin demonstrates she is Joe Six Pack... after he won the lottery. Republican donors are disgusted at this lack of thrift. Sooooo... that's Palin's philosophy as an executive: thrift for her constituents, and luxury for herself and her family. Charming: I shudder to think how this should translate were she vice president [>:] .

Palin's fashion budget more than four times the median income for the average American plumber.

puella -> RE: What does the Vice President Do???? (10/22/2008 6:50:00 AM)

Hrm... Michelle Obama goes on the View and wears a dress that SHE bought for $150.00,Sarah Palin goes on Katie Couric's show wearing a $10,000 suit.

I gotta say though... I wouldn't mind having a $150,000 shopping spree at Nieman Marcus for me and my pretty kiddies (even the baby got new RNC clothes!).

I guess it's not so cheap to dress like a 'real' American....

kittinSol -> RE: What does the Vice President Do???? (10/22/2008 6:56:36 AM)

I wouldn't mind that kind of spree either, but then again, neither of us is running for VP on an austerity platform [:D] .

Please go do some real investigative work, come back with solid information and links instead of quips from sound bite journalism, then post something that applies to the thread..........mmmmK!?!

I don't care if she is dumber than a post and ignorant as stone...I would still fuck her....she is cute and that chattering noise she makes with her mouth can be controlled by giving her something to suck on.

She does bring class or elegance to the sceen.  I always thought Hillary should dress in dresses.

She is personable.  Ild love to meet her.   I think the media is too hard on her.   I dont doubt that she uses small town nepotism, and she doesnt have my vote.  But I wish people would treat her civilly, and with decorum.

It's easy to be classy and elegant with 150 grand worth of garb on your arse. Just saying.

And yes: I'm envious [8D] .

Yes but I am sick of seeing the fake red white and blue garb.

I think this is a non-issue.

It reminds me of how Nancy Reagan  was faulted...tho her garb was donated. welllllllllllll who paid the TAX???     so they fried her over it.

Irishknight -> RE: What does the Vice President Do???? (10/22/2008 7:21:35 AM)

You know, I think that I would be willing to wear a 10,000 dollar dress.  What the hell?  Or maybe a $5000 kilt.

Fuck, like I said I'd be happy to wear those kinds of rags - but note that none of us are running under the guise that this country needs to stop spending money on stupid stuff. Huh... hello, Earth to Alaska?
