Not at all... I am just responding to your statement that you didn't think she engaged in cronyism, when it has been a hallmark of her elected life.

You know, I think that I would be willing to wear a 10,000 dollar dress.  What the hell?  Or maybe a $5000 kilt.

Oh no not me. I will take a $100.00 dress and the other $9,900.00 in bling to wear with it![:D]

Fuck, like I said I'd be happy to wear those kinds of rags - but note that none of us are running under the guise that this country needs to stop spending money on stupid stuff. Huh... hello, Earth to Alaska?

Kit,  it costs more for ladies to dress nice. I didnt make it that way.  Some leeway has to be factured in simply on that.

When I see a sweater at the mall that cost more then my car did,  I shug.  Then it is outdated fast.

If I paid the bill for the clothes on her- then I would be miffed. But I did not sign on this bill.

puella -> RE: What does the Vice President Do???? (10/22/2008 7:31:45 AM)

It doesn't have to cost that much... trust me, I loveeeeeeeeeees my pretty clothes!

Look, Michelle Obama went on the View wearing a very chic little dress that SHE paid $150.00 for and the 'internets' were on fire with women trying to get their hands on it, or something like it (myself included).

There is no need to spend $8,000 of donors money on a suit... jesus have these people never heard of Bluefly?

Understood.   I dont plan to vote for her. But this is due to how I view the state of our country. Not because of here.  Think of it as a job interview. You have a batch of applicants.  "we will get back to you".   Thats my thing.

She would be good for tourism. She has some talent. Just not what I view as needed for VP.

But I dont fault her for spending money to dress well.

Nor - will I smear her just because I disagree with her religious interrelatedness into governing.

She is still a real person, with very little experience in the public eye.

...ya know when a person lives in a small town they must walk the line. as people you will bump into years later.   and you never know who married to a family.

That then is between the donors and her.  Not me.

I am probaly the biggest tightwad on the list.   :-)  what is bluefly?    I buy little new. Well socks and underwear.  sometimes shoes.

IMO the person spending the public til needs to be thrifty.  the county sends stuff w mom and me. even tho we are 2 differnet legal adults.  I am to be impressed they save postage. tho what they had done was illegal.  [its all in the past now]

think of it this way.  anyone whose hand is in my pocket is going to get a tongue lashing. ;-0

Bluefly.com

Great place for designer clothing!  They have tons of crap that Sarah Palin would wear for at leat 50% less!  :)

The point is not that we are not personally paying for the clothes, but that one of the cornerstones of all her stump speaches is how the dems will waste poor Joe Six Pack's money...it is the hypocracy that is shocking... well that and the dumbness of paying full price !

You know... people have been having the same argument in England... over the Queen [sm=biggrin.gif] . It's the tourism line that's the best rofl.

I just have to add this as it shows some more of those statements she made that make me really nervous.

Sometimes I think he is a bit indulgent, but I think Olbermann really did a good job with this one... funny!

I have done only a cursory read of the US Constitution to find the answer to this question. Funny, I thought I knew with more specificity the answer to this question before it was aksed.

Article 2, which covers the executive, makes little to no mention of the VP. Article 1, Section 3, states:

"The Vice Preisident of the United States shall be President of the Senate, but shall have no vote, unless they be equally divided."

Are there other blanks that need to be filled in or is that it?

Uncle Nasty

Nope. That's it, U.N.  Any other duties the VP is given, is done so by the President. And the Pres has to be careful, because it's quite possible for the VP to go "off the reservation" as it were, and start pulling stuff that he has no power to enact, or even promise. Cheany, hold over from the Nixon administration that he is, has been overstepping his power since before he even took the office, by giving himself the job.

LaTigresse -> RE: What does the Vice President Do???? (10/22/2008 9:32:35 AM)

She is still clueless!

Gosh.... I have to wonder.... have all the Palin bashers even read the wikipedia entry about her, or are they just piling on?   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarah_palin   She actually has a decent track record.

I admit she is not a "smooth" or "slick" a speaker as we are accustomed to, but should that  *really* be the way we judge a potential executive... or maybe judge by their past performance?

A decent track record to be mayor of Wolfkill, Alaska.

Frankly, I don't even see her having the credentials to be Governor much less Vice-President.

I am judging her by her past performance.  She's already found to have violated state ethics standards, now she is being investigated for using taxpayer money to ferry the kiddies to her events.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Gov. Sarah Palin charged the state for her children to travel with her, including to events where they were not invited, and later amended expense reports to specify that they were on official business.
The charges included costs for hotel and commercial flights for three daughters to join Palin to watch their father in a snowmobile race, and a trip to New York, where the governor attended a five-hour conference and stayed with 17-year-old Bristol for five days and four nights in a luxury hotel.
In all, Palin has charged the state $21,012 for her three daughters' 64 one-way and 12 round-trip commercial flights since she took office in December 2006. In some other cases, she has charged the state for hotel rooms for the girls.

Palin track record you mean the one with requiring Rape Victims to pay for the medical exam and the Bridge to nowhere...just to name a few.

Is that what you are talking about when you say we persecute Sarah Palin who was a great Governor, according to Wikipedia?

I think it's important to note that Wikipedia cannot be taken as an unbiased, accurate source.  It's entries are from voluntary contributors and are not fact-checked nor are they screened for the bias of the writers as a true encyclopedic source would be.

Even though I admit to using it myself.

Good point.

If eveyone else does it why not our potential Vice-President?

Instead of raising the bar why not make things easy and lower it?

there is plenty to bash on both sides.  personally how a senator can manage to vote "present" 102 times in only two years is concerning to me.  since we hire them specifically to vote, should we take back a part of their pay for every time they fail to show up or simply vote "present" ?

Simple. If it becomes obvious that a particular measure is going down in flames, or will pass by a wide margin... and you can forsee how voting one way or another on it might be something that could sully your reputation... you just vote "present." They all do it, just to keep distance between themselves and any potentially "radioactive" issues....  Look at Obama for a perfect example: he helped get an education bill passed whose reason for existence was to teach kindergadeners to avoid predators.... even that much needed, and very popular stance was perverted into "Obama wants to teach sex ed to pre-schoolers!"

Can you blame politicos for wanting to avoid exposeure to such toxic rhetoric?

Lordandmaster -> RE: What does the Vice President Do???? (10/22/2008 1:49:56 PM)

I don't think corruption can be excused by the unproven assertion that all politicians do the same thing.  They don't all do the same thing.

Good point LaM... Palin is sure no Larry "Wide-Stance" Craig!   Ah for the good old days when it was all just a mish-mash of sex scandals?
