Fur's wrong because it requires that cute little furries are killed to dress ugly rich bitches

How about if we only sell furs to good looking bitches?

I only buy "used" fur coats.
(yeah, I know...sue me)
I absolutely love the way they feel.
Our fluffiest cat is very jealous of me when I wear my fox fur coat, 'cause I tease her and tell her that now I am fluffier than she is...(her nickname is fluffy mcfluff fluff
I do not contribute to the fur industry because I am buying them from people who no longer want them, not the stores or industry itself.
I also wear (alot) of leather...and eat meat. (many different kinds)

I do agree that the peta people are more for the ethical treatment of cute furry animals, rather than "all" animals.
(I also have to say that the ones I've seen on tv are a bit...erm...nutty)

Of course, it is difficult to do all things for all animals...

My sister used to own a chinchilla.  She called him "Ollie".  I called him "Coat".  The effect of stroking his fur was like a serious drug... all rational thought just left your brain.

If all it takes to get a fur coat is to be an ugly bitch, I can live with that.

I can't ever buy a mink coat thanks to PETA and the animal rights' extemists.  Gawd, anymore I'd be worried about being assualted just going into a fur salon.

Not long ago, you mentioned being at a shortage of funding to buy cigarettes? no?

Did somebody win the lottery? Hmmm

Besides, cows MOO, they are cute too. The way they wiggle their big ears when a fly bites.  Bet you eat burgers.  Ever see how inhumanely they get knocked off?

Long rats (minks) with rabbit whiskers are just darn cute, worthy of a coat but not if they are skinned alive.  Even the natives and the eskimos are humane and bash it's lil skull first.  Factory style creation of this finery do not.

Assaulted at a fur salon? Try E-bay.

I am sure minks sing too.  You just wouldn't hear them.  People that wear furs tend to hum a lot....and spin n twirl about too.(weeeeeeee) Yanno, like the 15 minutes of fame people on American Idol.

I just read this thread while eating a bag of beef jerky and wearing leather shoes. I am ambivalent on the subject.

Don't care about rodents dying for coats. Not terribly fond of rodents. Don't like the idea of canine or felines being used for coats, yet I wouldn't throw away a full length coyote coat either. I would LOVE to have a full length golden racoon coat. I've got lots of leather goods and eat all sorts of animal protein. I am okay with hunting for food, not trophy. I love to fish and don't get too weird about the poor little fish's mouth.

I also do not even think about considering testing when buy skin care items.

I've got 3 high end faux furs. Most because several hundred dollars is within my budget, thousands of dollars is not.

I suppose I am just a nasty, evil bitch....

Termy, does that mean I do get a trophy??? Is it something cool? Jewelry, or perhaps a full length sable coat?!?

Shit, a misunderstanding - please note that my earlier comment was tongue in cheek and not meant to be taken too seriously. Feeling the need to say this, because it obviously rubbed some fellow collarchicks' fur the wrong way. I seriously didn't want to get under anyone's skin. Still, there is a difference between a rabbit coat and a leopard coat.

You can not make that statement for every one alive, I know that hotdogs are made of bits and pieces and refuse, and I still eat them. I have absolutely no problem with hot dogs, other than the fact they have so many calories and soduim.

I hate PETA.  That damn organization has driven up the cost of scientific research, terrorized scientists, spouses and children, and planted bombs in peoples homes who use animals in research  (I read the articles in Science, but I don't think they're publicly available- here's a link I found quickly-http://michellemalkin.com/2008/08/03/animal-rights-terrorists-firebomb-scientists-car-home-in-santa-cruz/). They're also hypocrites- get handed someone's pet to take care of- they have it gassed.  Well if the poor animal is going to be killed anyway, why not do some useful research on it? Lab animals are treated humanely- they have to be, otherwise the results that you get are unreliable.  A stressed animal will have all sorts of elevated hormone levels, heart rates etc.  Good research requires healthy animals (unless being infected with a disease.)  PETAs lies that scientific research has not lead to any cures against human diseases (with the exception of vaccines which apparently they're OK with) are the biggest whoppers since Hitler tried to convince the Germans that all their problems since WWI were due to the Jews.  In the taxonomy of species, to most scientists- members of PETA are a lower form of life than lawyers.....

Yeah,  nothing like the feeling of having shampoo dropped into your eyes, or the feel of a drill as it bores into your skull.  Gee,  and I thought  my dog was happy lying in front of the fire,  seems she would much prefer being  experimented on in one of those luxurious labs instead.

So, where the hell are they as Japan hunts the species of whales to the brink of extinction?   I really like whales.  They're fascinating to me.  Biggest mammals on earth, communicating through water with those lovely songs.  They're worth saving.

candystripper

I hate to break it to you, but PETA is just a pawn of the ATF.  They throw up fires whenever ATF is in trouble in order to take the light off of those troubles.

Here's my oppinion on the whale thing:  I don't think we should care.  Their whales.  If these whalers are stupid enough to hunt them into extinction, then thats their stupidity because once they're all gone, so is their income.  Let them kill them off and ruin their money source.  That will be a fiercer blow on them then trying to fight them through piracy like the guys on Animal Planet.

Also, don't believe what extremists tell you.  They're almost ALWAYS lying or exagerating.  Photo is usually edited or plain made up (For instance, PETA put out a video of a rabbit being skinned alive and it turned out that it was them doing the skinning trying to put a bad name on the fur company).  The best advice I ever got from my brother was: "Trust nothing you hear, and only half of what you see."

You're right.  I'm sure your dog would rather be gassed and tossed into a mass grave by PETA then to have shampoo tested on it's fur and maybe have some side effects while being fed well and being looked after.  I'm sure it would rather be skinned alive for a PETA hate video then have a little shampoo in it's eye which is immediately washed out...  Yeah...  you've got a point...

Neither should be abused, but it doesn't take a genius to figure out that peta picks and choses.

that's stating the obvious. So does the police department, the FBI, CIA, and every other organization you can think of.

Huh?

You mean police departments, the FBI and the CIA  pick and choose which crimes to arrest someone for?

My oh my,   if only PETA could be wiped out, all the troubles of the world would be over.    Peace would return to the war zones of the world,  poverty and hunger would cease, and we could all join hands and skip off into the sunset together.   Who would have thought one organisation could cause such mayhem.

I think that a compromise can easily be found between the two extremes of PETA and abject cruelty to animals. It's not necessary for abattoirs to be so gruesome, same for chicken farms, and have you ever seen what they do to turkeys? All this goes in the same bag as fur production - a major rethink of how we treat animals wouldn't go amiss, whether it's for fur or for less fun stuff, like drug testing.
