Tonight marks the death of my cynicism about the ignorance of the masses.
AMEN!
Biden said, "they've called him every name in the book, but after tuesday, they'll have to call him Mr President."     I'm filled with emotions, and very hopeful now for ours and the world's future, because the best man to lead the new world has been elected.   M

Never  said anything really  anti  Obama, now if  I really wanted to I could I am just stating the facts. He wants  to do all these things, but guess what he doesn't have the money for them and you  know where he is going to go  first to get the money the working middle class americans prepare to see your taxes go through the roof and the lazy asses get all the benfits and not to mention health care will be a joke when the gov. gets to decided what your quality of  life is .  I also find it funny how he can claim he is a christian yet  is against everything they stand for, sorry just  dont trust him regardless of  his skin color. But like I said early I hope he lives up to the expections of everyone that voted for him because its going to be one tough thing to do. If people really wanted the change  they would  start in congress cuz thats where it needs to happen  and my friend brought a  good point we'll see what everyone believes when he finally sits at the whitehouse and our government basically says "no, sorry.. you can't do that... and this is why.." so many times that he has a nervous breakdown and finally winds up with the same fiscal plans and budget of every other president ,the president doesn't run things, the government does... congress.. and the pentagon, all the president does is play show & tell with the public all day to make it look like he even knows what the hell's going on behind the scenes, cause really he doesn't. That's my little blurb for this  evening good luck to all you Obama supporters

I'm not sure how much Americans were aware that the world, literally, was watching this election.

...very true words. i know some posters here think it irrelevant, but i think they're wrong. President Elect Obama will hopefully do a lot to repair the Us's  tarnished reputation.
Philo,I think more care than what reading here would indicate....His election bears IMO immediate fruit in the court of world opinion....some of that tarnished reputation is, by dint of this election redeemed...isn't it?

...an extremely good start certainly. Obviously, and i'm sure you wont disagree, actions need to match up to promises..........but the rhetoric has changed. Now, once again, some will argue that rhetoric is irrelevant...but it isn't. Rhetoric is a major part of foreign policy.
The race angle is less of an issue for foreigners than you think, although Obama's election clearly points to a major shift in a positive direction. Where, i think, Obama struck a chord that McCain didn't was in foreign policy. An Alaskan friend of mine said to me tonight to go get drunk in order to celebrate. He used to work for Governor Palin, and quite frankly he was shit scared she'd get in......not because of any domestic issue, but because he didn't want a war with Iran and Syria. The world will breathe a little easier tonight....another war like the Iraq debacle just became a little less likely......and thats a good thing.

Take a deep breath youngin'....  You will have plenty of time to sell your beliefs to us who voted for him.
And we love you even as upset as you are.   [sm=banana.gif] M

Let me tell you what I think the word 'change' means this time around.
It means people will start thinking of America as the great nation it was and will be again.
It means people feel they have a leader who just might care more about the welfare of the nation than that of a few select contractors.
It means people can maybe start to think a bit more positively about our future.

Some will see it that way.  Some won’t.  I stand by what I said.  “Change is a worn out political cliché – and we will hear it again in four years.  Hell, we will probably hear it again in two years.

I am happy Obama won. It was the first time in a long time that a huge group of people cried and cheered. All people.  It was refreshing for sure. He is walking into a mess but, he has brought some hope back into the lives who had none. Go OBAMA!

I wept when I sat down and watched the election get called for Obama.
This is one of my most favorite days, ever.

LadyPact -> RE: Obama has officially been elected President of the United States (11/4/2008 11:09:55 PM)

Yes, this is a historical moment.  I hope we all realize that.  In a sense, certain things will never be the same.

Yet, I read this thread, and I was not Myself.  Only now are we proud to be American?  Do we forget those who serve so soon?  The Commander in Chief is no one without those who carry out their duties under him.

I wish president elect Obama all of the best, and he has made his place in history.  It is My great hope that he brings our fellow Americans home.  They deserve pride, too.

Cuffkinks -> RE: Obama has officially been elected President of the United States (11/4/2008 11:12:31 PM)

The guy does talk a good game. He's certainly got a tough job ahead of him. But he got My vote and he's got My faith.
While watching him speak tonight, one feeling keep coming to me...Hopeful.
I feel that there is hope ahead for us as a nation. That after all we've been through, someone can lead us back in the right direction. I hope I'm not just being naive.
Good luck Mr. President.

I am watching Senator McCain give his concession speech.  Where was this man over the last 2 years?  Things could be very different if McCain could have spoken as well as he just did.

Congratulations President-Elect Obama! :)

~Dave

Dave, my sentiments exactly. Mc Cain’s concession speech was remarkable generous and very gracious.

Barack Obama looked very presidential in his acceptance speech. I could feel goose bumps…it was a very emotional speech, very electrifying. Almost brought tears in my eyes………………ok, it did.

What amazes me was Obama’s crowd…so young and vibrant. I don’t think any one looked over 30-40

He could kill two birds with one stone by having a massive infrastructure program, roads, bridges, sewer lines, electrical, water lines, hospitals, all kinds of things and put the *working man* in this country back to work at *good wages!*
That'll help everyone!

It didn't help the Japanese when they tried to spend their way out of recession in a similar fashion; in fact, it exacerbated the situation. I would never have had you down as a proponent of large, public schemes, Popeye........'suppose election fever is turning a few minds over there.

stella41b -> RE: Obama has officially been elected President of the United States (11/4/2008 11:32:40 PM)

I'm so happy for Obama and for Americans. Let's hope you can all show some solidarity and start working together to make things better.

GOD BLESS AMERICA.
