ORIGINAL: NefertariReborn I'm not sure how much Americans were aware that the world, literally, was watching this election. ...very true words. i know some posters here think it irrelevant, but i think they're wrong. President Elect Obama will hopefully do a lot to repair the Us's tarnished reputation. Philo,I think more care than what reading here would indicate....His election bears IMO immediate fruit in the court of world opinion....some of that tarnished reputation is, by dint of this election redeemed...isn't it? ...an extremely good start certainly. Obviously, and i'm sure you wont disagree, actions need to match up to promises..........but the rhetoric has changed. Now, once again, some will argue that rhetoric is irrelevant...but it isn't. Rhetoric is a major part of foreign policy. The race angle is less of an issue for foreigners than you think, although Obama's election clearly points to a major shift in a positive direction. Where, i think, Obama struck a chord that McCain didn't was in foreign policy. An Alaskan friend of mine said to me tonight to go get drunk in order to celebrate. He used to work for Governor Palin, and quite frankly he was shit scared she'd get in......not because of any domestic issue, but because he didn't want a war with Iran and Syria. The world will breathe a little easier tonight....another war like the Iraq debacle just became a little less likely......and thats a good thing.
