My only fear is that of an assassination, the terrible potential of another race and class war that could follow an assassination attempt, let alone one that is successful.

A few people have commented on this and I think the fear of this incident is inevitable regardless of who won since there is so many nutjobs on both sides of this.

Whether it's a black man winning over a white man or a white man taking the presidency away from a black man, somebody out there is probably drawing plans and buying bullets.

Spontaneous parties are igniting throughout the whole country (and on the entire planet too). Go out and honk your horns if you can, it's a historical night.

I don't like Obama, I did not vote for him.  I know his election was a big mistake. I am sure he will be remebered as the worst President since Carter. However,  he won the election and the only sane thing to do is support him and hope for the best.

THANK GOD the bush era is FINALLY over!

TheHeretic -> RE: Obama has officially been elected President of the United States (11/4/2008 9:55:00 PM)

Holy crap!  The Democrats actually managed to take what was set before them on a silver platter.  Who'd have thunk it?

Barack Hussein Obama, the 44th President of the United States of America.  I'm ok with that.

Congratulations to you all on a historic decision that will reverberate for years to come.  America's incredible capacity for national renewal has never seemed more potent.  We even feel it over here!

I disagree. John McCain even getting nominated was a mandate. His initial nomination was met with surpreme coolness and surprise on the right and no small bit of animosity as well. He brought in Palin for the base and made that clear. No need to do that unless your head was on the chopping block with those constituents.

And George Bush did more for the economy then any president during the last 8 years.  Just so I understand your setting of the bar here, what did the president of the last 8 years do successfully?  Invaded two sovern nations in the name of terror, yet never found a terrorist?  Worked with a political party that resisted any regulation on finacial markets, like the derivitive crisis (the same instruments that bankrupted Orange County California)?

I praise Obama.  Atleast his speech suggests he paid attention to more of his school then the teachers dress.

I'm not sure how much Americans were aware that the world, literally, was watching this election.  Here in the Bahamas when the election was called, the cheer went out loudly to you Americans.  You may not care what the world thinks of your elections but if you do know that sooooooooooooo many people salute your bold choice.  Caps off to America! We look at you with fresh eyes and a renewed hope that America will lead and lead well.  Now get your financial business in order so the rest of the world can get back to financial stability.  ( I need to max out My card again[image]http://www.collarchat.com/micons/m9.gif[/image] )

Except Palin seemed more interested in making a run for 2012, and making her personal agenda, not the party and not McCain's platform.  She did more to hurt McCain then help.  Sure, she was in touch with the people, as she completed a $150,000 shopping spree (more then the average American makes in 5 years).  BTW, do you think she will have to declare that income paid for by the Republican party as taxable income?  I'm guess not..

...very true words. i know some posters here think it irrelevant, but i think they're wrong. President Elect Obama will hopefully do a lot to repair the Us's  tarnished reputation.

I am happy, proud, hopeful and relieved. What I didn't expect to feel is as emotional as I do. We've come a long way, baby, and I can't wait to see what the next four years will bring. The man has his work cut out for him, for sure.
