What I predicted last month has started on CollarMe.
I am not surprised at all the racist and thinly veiled racist attacks.

Where? Please be specific when leveling an accusation of racism.

I am a bit surprised they have started with a vengance, 5 days
after the election.
I have never seen this level of vitriol and hatred for a President
that has not even been inaugurated. {and believe me I was pissed
when Bush won in 2000!}.

I saw the same when Clinton and Bush were elected. It is called cheerleaders being upset they lost the game.

This will certainly continue, it will not stop and I fully expect it too last
for years.
I adore President elect-Obama, CollarMe and many here.
I do not plan on leaving, but ignoring posts, posters and using the block
feature is my new friend.
.....I have to really say, I am sadly not surprised at all.

People will have differing opinions. People will show emotions in their post. People will always choose sides, and often there will be a dividing line.

What are some of the specifics that you see, that cause you to feel that Obama is being attacked because of his race? Why do you feel that the disagreements with him and his policies are any different than any other politician?

I believe you are correct that it is perception. If people disagree with someone else's ethics, then they usually will not believe there is a reasonable reason, so they jump to the conclusion of an unreasonable one, in this case racism. I really am open to looking at something that you consider racist, if you could just give one or two examples.

Also, there will be people that do not like Obama because of his skin tone, just as there are many people that voted for him just because of his skin tone. It is a sad fact of life.

Read some of the remarks on some of the Off topic threads, Dusty.
Maybe it is a matter of perception.
Many seem to "see" the threads and comments that I am referring to.
If you don't, then maybe it is all in how we "perceive" things.

I just have never seen so much criticism for someone that is not
even President yet!

Really? Where were you in 2000 when Governor/President-elect George Bush stole the election, according to so many? I seem to remember quite a  bit of hatred and vitriol before he took office.

....read your profile....
yawning, next.

I'm not quite sure what my profile has to do at all with the topic at hand...but I'm eminently certain I'll get over your disdain.

What is your motive for accusing someone, anyone, of being a racist?
At the risk of being labelled a racist myself, that accusation gives me the same feeling of caution i develop if someone bumps into me in the subway, or on a crowded street.
i tend to check to see who is trying to put their hand in my pocket.
outside of this recent election rhetoric, i have been accused of being a racist 4 times in 30 years.  each time, the person hurling the accusation did not know me at all, and wanted me to bend the rules in their favor, ignore them entirely, or give them a free pass due to their race.
What special treatment do you seek for President Elect Obama?  i have viewed this accusation as an attempt to evade accountability.
My hope for President Obama is that he accepts his victory and becomes the best president this country has seen.    i hope that he maintains a backbone enough to realize that about 47% of the country does not agree fully with his views or proposed policies.  That is better footing than Bush had in 2000, but nowhere near what Reagan had in either of his terms.  There has, and hopefully always will be, a level of opposition to those in office.  i hope that Mr Obama has the strength and courage to face down those who oppose and/or underestimate him both at home and abroad.
That he is president does not make him infallible or unquestionable.  Most of the challenges that he will face in the next years will have nothing to do with his ancestry, but with his character and abilities as a human being.  He will be under scrutiny because he is president, and is expected to represent the will and needs of the people.
i hope that he does this wonderfully, and that this knee-jerk excuse becomes unnecessary, and drops out of discussion quickly.
