Really, that is a silly question. He is American and no country is going to attack America so he doesn't really have to take the idea seriously.

Actually it's not a silly question. He stated he would not sign up because no country or government was worth fighting for. I asked if he would do anything from the home front. If he answer had been yes i would have stated that he should rephrase his original statement to no country or government is worth DIEING for.
 
What is worth FIGHTING for and what is worth DIEING for are two very different things.

Status: offline 		All i can say is it is a good job there are some who don't share your point of view. Otherwise countries that have been attacked and have had to go to war would be in a very sorry state.
You can quote anti-war propoganda at me all day long but it does not change the fact war exists and sometimes just sometimes, there is no choice but to fight.

Status: offline 		i find it odd how the ads for the various military services campaign to recruit people to join as they seem to glamorize it in such a way as to mislead the public into blindly joining up. too bad there's no such law as "Truth In Advertising"

Personally, if Michael states he is both a pacifist and an advocate of non physical fighting, I would and do wholeheartedly support him.  Otherwise it just means we end up going down the white feather route and that just sucks.

I'm guessing we are not as when i asked him if he would do something from the home front which could have been anything from office work to manual labour he said no.
There is nothing wrong with being a pacifist and not wanting to 'fight' but supporting your country in other ways is entirely different.

War exists because people prefer to die than to think. Very very few wars and I mean very few wars are about protecting ones family and home.

Despite what politicians would have us believe, no one has ever died in my life time for my freedom and I would say that is true of just about everyone on these threads.

Status: offline 		since i don't believe in any country and cosider myself a citizen of the planet, not just one small part of it...i don't see fighting for this speck of real estate as being feasible. it's land...life, itself is much more valuable than that.

I get that Misst, but I wasn't sure if Michael was concentrating on the physical aspects of fighting.  As many people were speaking about soldiers and army etc, I thought that it might be that he does not believe in physical war and had taken your question as that.
I am sure Michael would clear up the issue.
