Actually, I am referring to only 5 years ago.  And, unless the auto industry is far different than the appliance industry, those numbers are now checked and have been for a few years.  That is why Amana and all the other Whirlpool subsidiaries sell "assembled in America" as opposed to "made in America."  Too many people complained about what you are stating.

And, just to let some of you know, the Toyota plants in America are fighting the UAW greed machine as well.  Prices are raising and quality is falling.

Like I explained  NA content was falsified   and I explained how it was done .. I have seen the parts in their originally contains in the plant  that arrived missing the labels and had to help sort them myself  after the oops shipment arrived

Here is a list of vehicle content

http://www.automotiveaddicts.com/inthenews/07-10-06.html

that looks good till you start reading how america  content is determined

read the last few paragraph on the first page of this Motor Trends Article

Adding a new wrinkle(and justifying resuscitating this thread) Ret.General(U.S.Army) Wesley Clark makes the case in today's N.Y Times editorial section that bailing out the Auto Industry is a national security issue as well as an economic one.Interesting proposition...thoughts.

I think if the American auto industry collapses it will reemerge under new leadership as learner meaner competitors...I say let it happen and use the money we would have given to Ford,GM, and Chrysler to help the auto workers that will loose jobs and retirement benefits.

I don't see how it will be a security issue..at least over a reasonable time it would take to reorganize.

ps..Toyota will be happy to make our trucks and tanks.
