mummyman321 -> Picture in the Profile versus Fear for you Job (11/11/2008 4:40:41 PM)

For those who work, do you fear that your employer may find your picture on a website such as Collarme? Many employers are now actively searching Myspace and Facebook type websites search for their employees and any inappropriate behavior.

For me this is a real fear. I have a very nice job and I love what I do and my career is very well established. I simply cannot afford to put my picture on my profile. I am not willing to risk my job, career and retirement over having a picture on my profile.
I am more than will to share a photo with a potential Domme if we have similar likes but I simply cannot afford to take the risk of having a photo my employer may find on Collarme.

I would be intrested in hearing other's opinions on the matter especially those in professional occupations.

Occupations such as teachers, or anything dealing with minors. And for many of us, custody suits are a concern.

I wore an S&M's tee shirt to work last week. Does that count? [:D]

Unfortunately you need to choose between happiness and open fulfillment...and bread to eat and feed you and yours. It blows. im sorry.

Usako -> RE: Picture in the Profile versus Fear for you Job (11/11/2008 5:02:45 PM)

I really wouldn't want a job where what I do in private and never bring to work would cause me to get fired.

missturbation -> RE: Picture in the Profile versus Fear for you Job (11/11/2008 5:03:27 PM)

I still have pictures on my profile but for how much longer i don't know. I work in a trade where it is imperative i do not have a criminal record. With the new laws regarding BDSM porn etc, it may well become to big a risk for me to leave my pic's up.
It suck's but it's not smething that overly bothers me. Plus peeps won't have to look at my ugly mug anymore [:D]

It isn't really an issue for me. I'm somewhat 'out'... people know that I provide pastoral care for the fetish community, and that I do piercing, cutting, and other body mods, and a few know more. What I do on my off time doesn't impact my work situation -- all they ask is that I have a 'normal' haircolor wig to cover my flaky hairdos when I have to see clients.

kallisto -> RE: Picture in the Profile versus Fear for you Job (11/11/2008 5:17:39 PM)

It's a valid concern for many.    Not only for their jobs but also for custody suits as mentioned before. Along with many other reasons I'm sure.   It's a concern that I understand and respect.

DavanKael -> RE: Picture in the Profile versus Fear for you Job (11/11/2008 5:20:37 PM)

Not posting my pic isn't primarily related to my profession, though there are someinstances where I could see it being an issue and others where I could see it being a benefit.  For me, the choice is more personal: anonymity.  I don't feel it's the most safe or prudent thing for me to have my pic up as a personal precaution.

With how fast word spreads at my job, i as well can not afford to post any pic. And i only will give my pic out if i get permission from my Dom. But yes, like others have said, careers dealing with minors would most likely hinder their chances of working.

Did you go to the humor section and take your punishment yet???

proudsub -> RE: Picture in the Profile versus Fear for you Job (11/11/2008 6:05:28 PM)

It's not just pictures that can out you.  Be sure your screen name isn't one you use for email or on other sites, becasue if someone googles your screen name it will point them to Collarme.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Picture in the Profile versus Fear for you Job (11/11/2008 6:09:38 PM)

I have a state license and a federal certification that have good behaviour clauses in them, but since I was a pro dominant with her picture in magazines and on the net, I figure getting all paranoid now is shutting the barn door after the horse has bolted.  My pictures are not nudes, and I don't put anything smutty in my profile.  When I was a teacher, I was much more cautious about public photos.

Just use your boss' picture. Problem solved.

Hello,

This is absolutely a fear of mine....one of my biggest fears in fact.

When I started on CM I was sure that every phone call from work was going to be demanding a meeting so I could explain...*laughs*

I have taken precautionary measures (such as a false name/an email address for CM that is only used for CM), and only have half of my face up...but still it is a worry.

This is so very much a fear of mine that I have yet to attend any "real" events...I can just imagine someone saying something to someone else and *poof* there goes my career.

However, in a way I feel I must put my (partial) picture up.  I personally don't really look at profiles without pictures, which is what my search options are set for.

Perhaps it is a lesson learned on vanilla date sites that does not apply to CM, but that is what it is set at.

I think I may change that now....

~anne  (at least, that is what I am called here :) )

i have my photo up and i work professionally in both western medicine and alternative healing, licenced, certified and registered in all modalities.

my profile does not read like the average bdsm profile and if found here, i have nothing to be ashamed of~

i also have legal custody of an offspring...again, not too worried about that either but then, i have a very good relationship with my offspring's father.

i realize others are not as flexable or free - just saying for me, i am not too worried~

Hello,

May I ask what new laws, and what they apply toward?

Thanks either way!
