My potato kugel is outstanding. As are my Pesach desserts. Flourless chocolate torte, anyone?

Gawd I love kugel and haven't had any since I was a nipper. My mom usedto make it and we aren't even Jewish. Her's was a Lithuanian recipe, but, I imagine kugel is kugel, no ?

Well, many jews are Ashkenaze. Thats Eastern European. She probably got it from a jewish freind.

The word Kugel actually means "round" in german and square in Yiddish.

Actually, my ancestors came from Africa and France so we are African and French Jews. I live in Florida so I just go to the store to get challah. Do have a great recipe for matza balls instead of the water add seltzer to it. Makes the matza balls really fluffy.

oceanwynds -> RE: Kinky Jews (11/14/2008 10:15:28 AM)

For those wondering I am a Pagan Jew. Yes there are some:)

Thank you.

Is there a remedial class reading comprehension available in your community?

I'm not converting to score a Jewish husband  -- where on earth did that come from?

I am asking if I am devote, an adherent of my faith, will I feel or be taught that D/s is wrong?

No of course I don't plan to 'out' myself at the Synagoage.  How preposterous.  I drink and smoke, but don't plan to do that duirng worship service either.  Hell, I may even turn off my cell.

Pretty much any U.S. Catholic, especially the baby boomers, can tell you why they fee less than accepted at Mass and in Confession. I don't want that sort of distance from my faith again.

Got it?

candystripper

I can see now why you were moderated. This is down right rude. And no he does not need remedial reading comprehension, but maybe you do. When he talked about "marrying up your beliefs with your private interests" that was a metaphoric statement about the melding of beliefs, religion and private life.

Thanks for the translation assistance.  Perhaps what I need is a class in remedial posting where I can learn to use fewer metaphors and shorter words.  :)

OP:  My post was meant as a confirmation that no one is going to be interested in your private life in a Conservative or Reform setting, nor ask you how you're conducting your Judaism at home, or whether it's in conflict with your personal life.

FaithBlue -> RE: Kinky Jews (11/14/2008 7:27:58 PM)

Yes, I'm Jewish. Converted 7 years ago. I can't imagine anyone in the congregation knowing I'm kinky, except for my ex, and he has no idea I have a Dom now.

ExSteelAgain -> RE: Kinky Jews (11/14/2008 7:35:47 PM)

Any religion is fine...ho hum. Associating bdsm with it/against it is a stretch. I'm sure the same ratios of  Doms and submissives of both sexes are in every religion and every race.

Well, before you start speaking on behalf of all Catholics, kindly do ME a favor and don't.  Generalize much?  sheesh.

Got it?

I honor everyone else's religious beliefs (okay, maybe not those of the Scientoligists).  However, unless you've been living under a bridge, you might have noticed the Catholic Church, particlularly in the U.S., is a big fat nuisance to us all.

I often speak of the Church in my posts.  It's rather hard to discuss things like the consequences of being outted or reproductive rights without doing so.

Look guys, the Op was never meant to start a free-for-all.

I have as much information as I'm likely to get from Kinky Jews on CM, and I think it might be best if folks quit posting to this thread, unless some one else is considering converting to Judaism.

Just my POV.

stef wanted to know if you had ever considered converting on 11/12....at 129 pm. Is that why you posted this now?

Really, what business is it of yours?  Why do I need to defend something which could not possibly be more personal?

Would you inquire about the spiritual life of a stranger face to face?  I think some people lack boundaries...a bit sad if you're an adult.

candystripper  [sm=pole.gif]

i found it interesting that suddenly you decided to convert after that statement was made on another thread. Defensive much? i find your inquiries annoying, but thats just me...im sure you have your own following...much like Christ has His. As for boundaries and maturity levels....wow. You are just too cute....

As for being of a darker skin colour and jewish, well there is Lenny Kravitz as the poster child

Let us not forget Sammy Davis Jr.

OMG - does anyone remeber the 'All in the Family' episode where they were asking Sammy Davis Jr. to join their faternity (the Eagles or the Moose or whatever, I don't remeber), because they were getting flack for being all white protestant male, and they weren't even addressing the male part, but they figured with Sammy Davis, they could get a two for one - get the flack off their back with only one member instead of two? effing hillarious, it was. There was a show so far ahead of its time, and challenging the status quo.

My apologies..it appears I did 'misread' you.  There have been some astoundingly, stupifying things said on this thread, and of course, I never know what would motivate someone to post them. I guess I'm a bit sensitive to posts that read like anti-semiticism laid behind them.

Can you answer a question for me? I presume you're Jewish yourself. (Pardon me if' you're not.)

Aren't there tenets of the Jewish faith dictating the conduct of one's personal/sexual life?  Yes, I want to convert -- what I know so far appeals to me greatly -- but I cannot be at odds with my faith once again over how I conduct my private life.

Maybe it would help if i asked a specific question.  What does the Jewish faith say on the matter of 'pre-marital sex'?  The Catholic Church regards it as a mortal sin (meaning you will go to hell for it if you have not made an Act of Confession yadda yadda yadda before you die.)

Thank you, and I appreciate your patience.

I'm Jewish, and I would recommend finding a reform synagogue. There are many synagogues that are very open and accepting, however, orthodox are not.

LMAO.  Nooo, I'm not looking to find other kinky Jews to hang out with, Ex.  What I meant to ask is what does the dogma/Cathecism/what-have-you of the Jewish faith have to say on the matter of kinky sex?

I mean, really, if'n I'm going to undertake to learn to read Hebrew -- which does not even use the same alphabet as English -- then I hardly want to want a year before finding out I'm '*not supposed* to be a submissive, etc. etc., etc. all over again.

Of course every religion has devote members whom I might like. However, it's not as if I can become a, e.g., Taoist here in Cleveland and expect to find a house of worship, etc. right at hand. (Though who knows?)

Hope you're doing well, sweet man.  When are you coming to see me?  LMAO.

Yes, there are TONS of rules regarding your personal life. I don't know if you have me blocked or if you are simply ignoring me but I've already stated that. There are 613 "rules" or mitzahs, or steps to heaven. These range from when you can have sex (while on the rag is a big no-no), how to cleanse your body, what type of fabrics you can wear and what you can stock in your kitchen. Pre-martial sex against the rules. I have heard that in certain circumstance it is allowed but I have yet to find out exactly what those circumstances are.

And, I'm personally offended that you feel there is anti-semiticism on this thread. You have displayed a great lack of knowledge and seem to have not put any research into your "decision" or "desire" to convert at all. There is nothing on this thread that is anti-Jewish - indeed there has been an outpouring  of appreciation for Jewish culture, least of all our lovely culinary skills. This isn't anti-semiticism and to even imply that it is does a gross injustice to the actual hate that is directed at Jews across the world.

Yes, there are tenets dictating them; however there is HUGE variance from one branch of Judaism to another.
Even within each branch, the focus on rules can be widely varying.

So if you're looking for a hard and fast answer, the answer is yes, there are tenets.  But as you've been encouraged throughout this thread, the key is to find a branch and synagogue/congregation that fits you.  This faith is not a monolith with one set of rules and punishments.

You can see an example of variances in how same-sex marriage and ordination of gay rabbis is being handled by the Conservative movement here:  http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/12/06/AR2006120601247.html

Again, what "The Jewish Faith" says on the matter of premarital sex varies by movement and by individual Rabbi.  You'd most likely get varying answers  - from "Absolutely Not" in the Orthodox faith, all the way to "Personal decision" in the others.

The Church is organized in a very strict hierarchy, and I think you're asking questions from a hierarchical standpoint.

I've don't recall ever hearing discussion in my religion about going to Hell for activities.  The focus is much more on taking personal responsibility to add good deeds to the world, rather than focus on sin and punishment.  My experience only.  Others may have differing experiences.
