Pretty much any U.S. Catholic, especially the baby boomers, can tell you why they fee less than accepted at Mass and in Confession. I don't want that sort of distance from my faith again.

Got it?

Well, before you start speaking on behalf of all Catholics, kindly do ME a favor and don't.  Generalize much?  sheesh.

Got it?

WhiplashSmile2 -> RE: Kinky Jews (11/14/2008 6:12:24 AM)

Due to some recent emails in my inBox, I need to clear up some confusion with my other post on this thread. I'm not jewish.  However, the roots of my personal faith is based in Judaism (subject of debate even).  My religious views and faith are so well off any beaten path that it ain't funny.

I just wish to express to others that I am not officially Jewish, nor have I ever been. My knowledge comes from a lot of reading.

I am not a member of any religious group, organization or church.  My own personal faith forbids me from becoming a member of any religion doctrines organized by mankind.

OK, end of my public service announcement.  I wish to thank those that did email me in response to my previous posting on this thread.  I just wish to clear up any confusion or false impressions.

DesFIP -> RE: Kinky Jews (11/14/2008 7:59:07 AM)

Orthodox, you won't be accepted.

Reconstructionist, no problem.

There's as wide a range in Judaism as there is in Christianity. Or do you think that a Baptist who believes you're damned if you ever dance is going to accept a Unitarian? Same thing.

Do your research and talk to your rabbi.

I'm not converting to score a Jewish husband  -- where on earth did that come from?

I am asking if I am devote, an adherent of my faith, will I feel or be taught that D/s is wrong?

No of course I don't plan to 'out' myself at the Synagoage.  How preposterous.  I drink and smoke, but don't plan to do that duirng worship service either.  Hell, I may even turn off my cell.

I can see now why you were moderated. This is down right rude. And no he does not need remedial reading comprehension, but maybe you do. When he talked about "marrying up your beliefs with your private interests" that was a metaphoric statement about the melding of beliefs, religion and private life.

If folks got moderated on the CM boards for 'being rude' we'd never hear from you-know-who-they-are ever again.

You do have a point though -- it is  a written medium, and if I 'misheard' the other poster, well, my apolgies.  Still, if'n they're cheesed off about it, I don't think they need you to speak for them.

candystripper -> RE: Kinky Jews (11/14/2008 8:46:51 AM)

I don't happen to know much about Greek Orthodoxy.  The love of my life (okay, the first one, LOL) was a Russian immigrant from the Ukraine, back when it was still part of the Soviet Union.  He took me to a street fair being held by his church, and folks ratted him out to his family for dating 'outside'.  I'll never forget being hollared at and told to go away because 'someday we're going back'.  We snuck around for awhile, but eventually it was just too hard on him to keep seeing me.  My first heartbreak *sighs*.

If'n you wish to know more about Greek Orthodoxy vs. Roman Catholism, this seems to be a good article:

Greek Othodoxy vs. Roman Catholicism

My reasons for considering choosing Judaism are personal, private and not something I wish to get into here.  Please respect that.  I uderstand folks are curious, but really, nosiness is not attractive.

There are even different types of Baptist (though most people who aren't Baptist don't know this). I grew up in a Baptist church and never got the Baptist jokes because I've never met anyone like that at all. I always hear the "no drinking, no dancing" thing but haven't encountered it.

LOL - seriously, one of the first things a Rabbi said to me was "Well one of the first things you need to know about Jews is we love food so help us eat this." It was at a dinner following a Friday night service. It was delicious.

No offense but... get used to it and fast. You'll have to prove why you want to convert not just to one Rabbi but several towards the end. Plus, don't put your reasons out if you don't want people to supply more information.

Some good but free advice: Buy "Choosing a Jewish Life" and "Living a Jewish Life" by Anita Diamont. Then buy "How to Run a Traditional Jewish Household" by Blu Greenberg. Read them, lose yourself in them. They are very easy to read and will give you tons of information, the pros, the cons and how hard it can be, plus the joys of it.
