My Pet holds the trump card, the Ace of Spades. I hold the other 51. She can play her card at any moment. Any second she can say "I'm done, I'm leaving, goodbye." But so long as she doesn't, I play my cards all day long. Who really has the power? I do, because she gave it to me.
That said, I can "leave" anytime I want, as well. But the difference in power acts seems smaller when the dominant leaves. (compared to other acts, when a submissive calls it quits it is a seemingly larger change in character, although in truth it isn't.)
While we agree to engage in power exchange, the trump card doesn't matter.
