I got a bunch of mails today, they addressed me as "Sweetie", "Sexy" or "Honey"

I'm honestly not much one for protocol, just manners tend to go a long way and I don't expect any stranger to address me as Mistress but getting called pet names from a complete stranger does strike me as more than just a bit odd...

Are they actually thinking or are they practising some sort of furious one armed typing? Do they actually really expect a positive response? Even in a pub you usually introduce yourself and ask somebody's name... I find it odd

I hear ya! Maybe adding a piece to your profile explaining your feelings might help.

I doubt that, I put on that I'm not interested and still get the usual suspects who seem to write to everything female

well...MissSweetySexyHoneyLadyConstanze ;)

It happens to MsK frequently too. And Her profile clearly states if She's not interested I get tossed the trash to play with until I'm bored...and yet! they are completely surprised when She doesn't respond to them. Shocking! I know.

The other thing is that "Ma'am" is often how strangers address MsK without finding out what She would like to be refered to as. "Ma'am" happens to be a very personal and intimate title for MsK and is only awarded to those She owns. And that doesn't mean...those She's playing with, She's thinking about owning, going through to motions to get to owning...nope established, developed, secure relationships only. And yet even when they're warned about it they do it.

Some people just can't read and like to make assumptions.

Have a good saturday.

My Owner and I get a great deal of mail like that.  I say it's just one-armed typing, honestly.  I get it from a lot of alleged Female Dominants, actually.  Of course, she gets just legions from mostly male subs.

It's a source of amusement rather than a big annoyance for us, honestly.  But, there are some days when it is pretty grating.

Hi BoiJen

Amazing that people can read but not write...

Vampire,

it can be amusing but sometimes it is simply grating, seems that weekends are especially good for one handed typing...

I had read your profile before posting and you stating how you would like to be addressed didnt jump out at me (I must have missed it). The reality is your going to get alot of sh*t mail (very hot pic in profile :-) )- just try and ignore it. There are so many positives to collarme that I think we should just  ignore the w*ankers (that way they get NO recognition) and hopefully will buzz off.

I usually delete, no I don't have a way I prefer to be addressed, but I think it is a bit inappropriate to start with intimate pet names....

I think by now we know there are a lot of morons who have profiles here on collarme, so it should really no longer be all that surprising that quite a few of them are going to be contacting the more attractive candidates on the site, even if those candidates have indicated that they are not, in fact, candidates. I'm sure it ranges from the one handed typers to the guy who is sitting there thinking, "I know she's not available, but I would so make such a great partner/slave for her, so I'll try anyway." And then there's just the stupid, clueless wannabes who are going to be the problem no matter where you go. They have a venue to actually communicate with people, whereas in the past they didn't have any. So, of course they're going to use it over and over again, right up until the point where they overwhelm practically any potential, good person that exists.

Hiya, a bit funny how everybody seems to gather here too ;)

But I hear the same from friends who are female subs, they get "Let me be your slave" as well...

And I haven't even mentioned the guys from Ghana who want to relocate and would be willing to marry me...

Yeah, this is my favorite posting site, so I definitely gathered here. Unfortunately, I don't get to post that much anymore since moving to Korea. Way too busy these days.

But yeah, I get the "women" from Ghana writing me, too. I think everyone gets those. I'm not surprised that all women get mail from guys wanting to be their slave. It's why I don't even write anyone; I figure they get enough spam from everyone else. The few times I have written to someone was to just communicate a thought, and because of that mass onslaught they get, my messages don't always get responded to either, so I find it less and less worth the effort to even try to make communication and friendship with people who are looking for any reason to break such attempts ( convinced I must be after something with an ulterior motive).

We can always say that an enlightened woman told me to post that, so we won't have to explain how a man might have accidentally contributed something worthwhile.

The other thing is that "Ma'am" is often how strangers address MsK without finding out what She would like to be refered to as. Normally, when i make contact with someone I am guilty of this Jen. Obviously if it is in someones profile not to, then I respect that. I dont use Ma`am to infer I have, or expect, a relationship with someone. I just do it out of politeness. When I have been in the Southern States it is a very common term anyhow. I dont use the word Mistress, for the reasons you stated. The same reason goes for pet names, at least not until I am told it is okay to do so.

Thanks for saying that, Politesub.  People have been calling me "ma'am" since I was about twelve, it's just manners.  It's not possible for someone to know which terms of address are acceptable for each person, but it seems unreasonable to mark someone down for using vanilla terminology.

I'm from GA originally. So I get the southern thing...it's also why I choose to (always have even before MsK) address D-type females as "MissSo-and-So" or strictly by their handles until otherwise invited. I also don't address D-type Females as "Mistress" for a similar reason.

funny enough I was at one of my first parties here and some brazen ass munchkin sized bitch came up to me in her latex telling me to call her "MistressSo-and-So" she was a half second away from being told "kiss ass bitch." MsK had just arrived then (it was also the first night we did anykidn of scene) and I was on a mission to impress at that point so I simply ignored the comment. My revenge came later when I refused to sell anything to the rude little woman from the fetish shop I was running at the time.

And so I come back around to addressing D-type women by their name minus any title (handle...whatever) or "MissSo-and-So"...it's safe that way ;)

Mostly I correct individuals who address MsK as "Ma'am" and only occassionally does it stick. Those who can pass that minor test are for some reason few and far between.

MsK's boi

I do rather tend to think that if someone can't address me respectfully in email and IM, they are unlikely to be a good fit for me in person. Even in a vanilla relationship, respect is a necessary basic factor.

I should mention that, in my part of the world, Yorkshire, and probably in other parts of northern England, it is customary for people (especially those of about my parents' age) to address members of the opposite sex as `love'.  To many people, that might sound overly intimate but it isn't intended as being so in the same way that, for example, Australians address people as `mate' without necessarily meaning that they're their friend.

Obviously, this doesn't apply to `Sexy' but for some of the others, it could, in some cases, be a lack of cultural sensitivity rather than an attempt to be overly intimate.
