Status: offline 		A few years ago Leonard Nimoy published a book of photos representing the Shekhina, which in Jewish beliefe is the feminine indwelling spirit of God.  The woman is wearing religious garb, a Tallit and Tefillin, and is clearly nude beneath.  There was some pretty vocal disapproval of it,  I thought it was beautiful.

IMO, this is the crux of it all.  Regardless of whether "outside" people agree or disagree with Catholicism/Christianity, this is the belief of these people and what is on that front cover shows a complete lack of respect for those beliefs.  It sucks when money is more important that showing respect for others.

First of, the average Christian isn't going to be as offended as a catholic, because Christianity generally doesn't focus on Mary as being as important of a figure  (while attending Catholic school, many an evangelical lectured me about how the catholics worship Mary and that's not what god wanted blah blah). Also, as far as I know there's not much of an islamic population in Mexico. It's mostly catholics. Putting muslim imagery on the cover of Mexican playboy would sell less, and generate less controversy.

Status: offline 		It is just good marketing.  Controversy, even tired over-done controversy moves print.  It worked for the Harry Potter books and I'm sure it will sell Playboys.

You'd think the iconic vessel for all creation would be accepted as the fertile, feminine creature she is, instead of cannonized into an untouchable and untouched virgin.  To me, THAT is sacriledge.
