We haven't had to cut back as I married a very frugal woman to start with,we grow organic veggies to sell and have plenty to put by for the winter as well.We put up our own hay for the horses and always have hay to sell.. So as a by product of growing what we need we also earn a living as well..We are looking for a good producing milk cow for not only will she provide milk ,butter , but will provide a calf for the freezer every year..time are hard every where,my brother in law, Diane and I are partners in a construction company, we build custom homes in the DC area...A few days ago we had one contract canceled that was for 5 custom houses,we are getting mean and lean..we had to lay off 10 carpenters and labors, they will be able to draw unemployment for a while and we will continue to provide their health insurance until spring..By working only one crew we will be Lean and mean until things turn around..
I need a new truck but will hold off on buying one until summer,I'll repair and hope ol' blue gets me thur until then. Dianes little truck is in good shape so no worrys there,We as American will tighten up out belts and ride out this storm.the feds by cutting rates believe it our not will bring a lot of buying and inmvestments coming from other countrys,It will get better folks..bounty

That is a shame as you can get many of those coupons from the manufacturers as well printing them online and going directly to the store. I suspect someone was counterfeiting them.

Oh and PA..as far as cleaning supplies go..Vinegar, Bleach and Ammonia and a little dish washing liquid clean just about anything. Use newspaper on windows instead of towels and if you need to caulk windows and don't want to spend, soak strips of newspaper in water and use that to caulk with. Plastic sheets (drop cloths) can do a good job of blocking drafts. Boric Acid ( very cheap) gets rid of insects.

Housesub, have you tried CouponMom.com?

It's a lot of work it looks like, but my mother swears by it, and is aways gushing about how much she saved. It's not interent coupons, but rather I think it tells you where to find the really good deals.

I don't clean the window's at all, and it's cheaper than vinegar and window cleaner pu together lol.

I don’t use window cleaner…I Use straight vinegar and water, works much better and it’s cheaper. A tablespoon of vinegar in two cups of water and you are good to go.

Not always and not necessarily. We have a fridge and it looks brand new and it's about 9 or 10 years old the one in the garage is far far older than the one in the house and it' still in perfect condition on the outside.

Inside, well yeah one of the shelves on the door did crack and break, but that's from doofus's loading it up to full for the plastic to handle.

I love dollar stores, and shop there a lot for a lot of craft stuff, hell they have more choices in more stuff sometimes than expensive places do.

Food co-ops and pantries, and scratch and dent for canned good.  They also have scratch and dent places for appliances.  Sooner or later you will scratch that nice new fridge anyway, so get one already scratched and hang a magnet, with your lists.  Or your kids/grandkids art.

Heh, beat me to it! Vacuum every other day instead of every day? I'm lucky if I get time once a week

I've always been a cheapskate... plan is to do whatever I need to do to get by.

And buy quality tools on Craigslist while people are desperation-selling.

If you want to get away from the bleach and the cleanser....invest in some baking soda.

Mix the soda with vinegar and you have a cleanser that works better than anything you can buy in a store...and instead of bleach for whites...baking soda is just as good, and it's cheaper.

Yes and add essential oils like lavender or lemon (Now brand bottle is about $9.00 a drop goes a very long way) and baking soda and you have a heavenly smelling cleaner. These are what I clean the bathroom with. Essential oils are antibacterial and biodegradable and smell wonderful. The baking soda is a slight abrasive and cleans soap scum and porcelain beautifully.
I have wood floors and use inexpensive liquid detergent, or vinegar and baking soda and a drop or two of essential oil.
Carpet- use baking soda and essential oil.
A couple of drops of lavender essential oil in vinegar water is a great rinse for hair. The lavender cancels out the vinegar smell.
Valerie Ann Worwood has a great book with recipes called "The Complete Book of Aromatherapy and Essential Oils.
There are sections on everything from pets, to babies, men, and the elderly.

What's my plan? To quit my job and buy more things.

Seriously. I quit my job on Monday, something I'd been planning for several months. I'll take a few months off to catch up on some rest and some traveling, and sometime in the early part of next year I'll be moving into a new career field, also something I've been planning for some time.

As for the "buying more things" part, I do plan on making more purchases over the next year or so than I might ordinarily make, because just about everything you can possibly need is on sale. Retailers are desperate for customers, and prices on almost everything are ridiculously low. Things I'd been considering buying, but was holding off on, are in many cases now so cheap I can hardly afford not to buy them. A new desk for my computer, for example - 25% off. Too good of a bargain to pass up. I'm picking it up tomorrow.

I'm not going to blow money on anything  I don't need just because it happens to be cheap, but for stuff I do need, or even just want badly, I'm definitely going to be doing a lot of bargain hunting over the next year or so. I'm basically an extremely frugal, cautious shopper, and that's not going to change just because things are cheap. I'm still extremely tight with a buck. In fact, paradoxically, it's my frugality that's driving me to spend more now. My reasoning is that if it's something I'll definitely be spending money on at some point anyway, in most cases this is the best time to spend the money because there'll probably never be another time when I can get it so cheap. And, it's also a way of doing my part to keep at least a little money flowing into the economy.

OneMoreWaste, hehe we live on a pure concrete floor, so there's no need to vaccume, maybe sweep perhaps, but we don't worry about that either, except once in a great while.

And even when I lived in a carpeted bedroom I vaccumed maybe once a year.  I know the people on the boards are gonna be like ewwwwwww you're a nasty mother fucker but oh well lol. All the time not spent on vaccuming is better spent on the forrums hehe.

If you have a freecycle group in your area,  and someone was offering a desk that matched your needs, that computer desk would be absolutely free, with the exception of the cost of gas to go pick it up, which you'd spend anyway going to store buy it.

Black Friday and other sales from Kohl's saw some much needed king size sheets being bought. They were normally 150 dollars  because they were 600 thread count sateen cotton, on sale for 42 dollars, and if I had my Kohl's 30 dollar gift card, they would of been 12 bucks. I got a gorgious Microwave on sale too, it was almost 200 dollars on sale for 60.  And most people were saying there are no real sales to be worthwhile on black friday hehe..

Dollar stores and walmart are da bomb for savings.  Dollar Tree is where things really are a dollar.  Totally Awesome is a non-toxic all purpose cleaner, that really works.  At Walmart you can get refills of liquid soap, in a half gallon size for about $4, last time i bought it, may have gone up since.

Those "cheap" goods at WalMart come with a price. Walmart is the biggest corporate welfare queen in the country. Your tax dollars directly subsidize Walmart's cheap prices and low wages by paying for medicare and food stamps for Walmart workers. And the amount of money they have gotten from communities giving them tax deferrals and other giveaways is obscene. All that Chinese junk they sell is made by people who are virtually slaves.

http://www.goodjobsfirst.org/pdf/wmtstudy.pdf

http://www.thirdworldtraveler.com/Corporate_Welfare/WalMart_Welfare.html

All these wonderful bargains from China and Viet Nam and Thailand come at the expense of American workers, who used to have good jobs that could support families, but all those jobs are gone, and even two-income households can barely make ends meet these days. If anyone wonders why there aren't any jobs that pay much more than minimum wage, they need to look in the mirror.
I cannot morally or ethically justify buying a thing from WalMart. Maybe you and other bargain seekers can.

I am up at 4:30 this morning.  I dont know why.  I guess my back is cold.   Silver at 11.40 and flying off the shelf of where I buy it!!!!   So, I been clicking away.   40% silver coins, the mark up over spot is cheaper the bullion rounds right now!

Debt is not huge on my mind.  Only the house payment, heat.   It is all going to collapse...

My plan is to get "me" into shape,  then my family,  then if anything is left -my community.   I must say my family tunes out everything I say.   WHich  simply makes me more determined to get myself in order.

When the masses realize what is happening, it will be too late.

Grab yourself some junk silver coins.   Some extra food.     The money changers know what is coming.  Things do not blow over this time.

Every country that has had a fiat currency falls.   And so too will the US.   The bright part, is that from the ashes we can dump the federal reserve and all this globalization crap.

My plan, very simple...

And it is actually no different than what I have been doing.....

Bag my limit of deer, i.e Bambi, bambi's mama, and the other doe that bambi's mama gossips at the salt lick with....

Bag my limit of prong horn, (that be American Antelope for nonhunters out there)

Keep the veggie garden going as usual, help the neighbor with his goats, (which means I get three free butchered goats AND the hides every season,) and help the other neighbor with his rabbits, which gives me two rabbits every week plus the hides.

By the way, kidskin gloves arent really made from the skin of baby goats....

But between the stock pile of tanned goat hide, buckskin and rabbit fur and the sinew made from various parts of the animals that are usually thrown away, I really dont think jackets and such are going to be much of an issue....

By the way peoples, a treadle powered sewing machine that is used to sew the soles of shoes to the uppers is usually pretty cheap, and the heavy leather for the soles and heels can be bought online for next to nothing....

And I suggest you use sandalwood to make the shank to make the arch support, that way it forms to your foot, and since it ends at the ball of your foot, the shoe or boot still flexes.

And if you really dont like sliding around on leather soles, you can get some tire tread used for recaps at any local place that recaps tires, or you can get some of the same stuff that they use on skate boards to keep your feet from sliding.

When the world economy finally goes down the toilet and the cities become nothing more than disasters waiting to happen.... city folk gonna be SOL.

OMG, with 3 dogs who shed like crazy, if I only vacuumed once a year (or anything less than a few times a week) you wouldn't even be able to find my floor!
