The guy that helped start the progressive talkshow format may be yet another reciepiatnt of it`s success.

This would be the icing on a big Obama cake.....

Status: offline 		I have mixed feelings about this. Franken is a total asshole, and no more qualified to be a Senator than Caligula's horse. On the other hand, Coleman is an even more despicable excuse for a human being than Franken, so I suppose I'd rather see Franken win than Coleman. Even if for no other reason that the 6 years of utter hilarity to which we'd be treated watching him skewer Republicans on the Senate floor.

It looks like Obama is going to need some  in house, artfully crafted, occassional   reminders from his original progressive base.  Franken the political critic and comedian is that guy.  And we need some NEW high profile Dems - ones who can see through the   current frightened Democratic (dysfunctional family)Congress  of whimps....and Franken the (proud -and -out) Al Anon is that guy.  It is a win win win. Yay.

Mr Obama is a centrist and needs Al to keep him grounded and balanced.

I would love to see some liberals (with some balls) go after their opponents w/ death rays,the way republicans do.No holds barred and with no apologies.

Status: offline 		Thanks...yes, I think Obama might find that Franken is his liberal conscience...and comedy is a powerful weapon, especially in our media deluged world.   Franken
will be  quoted more tha6n others because he is more entertaining.  Nice by product that he probably will also be more honest.  I am thinking Lieberman is probably not so hot with Al joining the family.  Lieberman  considered himself the  Democratic Senate Stand Up Comedian.  Since he was neither a good Democrat or a funny comedian, probably pains him that Al is accomplished on both fronts.
As far as Al being an  outspoken & grateful  12 step guy, for him honesty is not a moral issue but a health issue.  He has a deep private commitment to be honest with himself and the world around him. He will not be  just another  Democratic people pleaser in  the Democratic Congress, and he certainly knows how to start talking about the real core elephants in the living room of America.
I  am  more  excited  about the Franken-Obama synergy than Biden-Obama.

Giving it to cons with both hands and both feet,all the while doing it with great humor and jokes.

Of course the butt of his his humor might feel differently.

That`s the sincerest compliment they could pay Franken.

Status: offline 		Yes, a junior senator... who is WINNING over the incumbant, malignant weasel. By just a handful of votes... a handful of votes the GOP did everything in it's power to keep from getting counted.

I have to commend MN... they are being slow, careful, and not allowing the kind of BS to happen there that stuck us with shithead Bush for the first four years, thanks to FL, (Governed then by Jeb Bush) allowing itself to get fucked over in the recount.

Actually, the Minnesota Secretary of State (the official in charge of the recount) has cited the Florida travesty as a major reason they are taking such great pains to get this right. Said that his office will do anything to ensure nothing like that ever happens on his watch.

He can certainly be charming, but he's got a really nasty, mean streak to him that I just don't like. He has a tendency to be very petty and arrogant, and my fear is that if he does wind up winning the election, he won't be able to rise above that to represent Minnesota in a respectable manner.

I could be wrong. It could be that he does have it in him to rise above it, but from what I've seen of him over the course of his career, it's difficult for me to find any reason to believe it's likely. I could be wrong, and I hope that I am. Because it's starting to look like he is actually going to pull this off and be our next Senator.

Status: offline 		The Franken-Coleman race really doesn't matter and hasn't mattered since Saxby Chambliss trounced Jim Martin the the runoff in Georgia. That was the GOP's 41st seat.

Don't you have to actually be ,..."funny" to be a comedian?
SNL got rid of him years ago. They must have gotten a lot of complaints.
Boy, ...now that's a tough job of work to be singing  Al Franken's praises!
*Watching paint dry* was more exciting than listening to him.
It was "painfull" trying to watch him. He'd talk about things that no-one gave a shit about.
You'd almost feel sorry for the guy and hope he wouldn't be on for too long before the next sketch or hopefully a commercial would come on.
Now he's a "progressive?"
How so?
Man, I feel sorry for "progressives"!
Can you imagine being at a progressive's convention and in walks Al?
"Oh shit! It's Franken!"
"Let's head over to the John Deere display before he sees us pronto!"
"Yeah, let's ditch him!" "Fuck him he's not a progressive, none of the comedians will let him hang out with THEM so somehow WE hit the lottery!"
" Yeah Thanks a lot Jerry Seinfeld!"
"Oh God! Look who's with him! It's "CRAMER!!!"
If he'd just stop trying to be a "comedian" now that would be "progressive" and we'd be getting somewhere.
He turned into a one trick pony with his diatribes on idiot Bush.
I don't like Bush either but I don't want to hear about the prick *all the time!*
As some of you on here can probably tell I'm a LOT funnier than Al Franken *ever* thought about being.
Maybe I should polish up my act and send a demo to SNL.
Oh, and what exactly do people mean when they use the word "progressive?"

I don't remember him on SNL that much.  I never thought he was funny.  It has nothing to do with politics; he just plain sucks.  I don't care who Minnesota puts in office, but Al Franken is not talented and never was.  Air America?  Didn't they declare bankruptcy?  Again.....Al Franken sucks.

Status: offline 		To everyone saying Al Franken isn't funny, read one of his books, he's actually pretty awesome. Also, as someone who lives in Canada who gets Minnesota television feeds, based on their campaign commercials alone, I want Franken to win. I much prefer talking fish over horror movie music playing while a Canadian flag flaps in the wind and the voice over guy talks about the need to secure the border. Minnesota borders Manitoba. Unless there was a sudden influx of mennonites stealing all of the good farming positions, I would have to say that the border is probably fine.

Not that martin didn't have his problems, but Chambliss is a dirtbag from the get-go. I regret I was in the ER getting an antibiotic IV infusion on the 2nd. 

It was East Cobb that elected that bat-guano-snorter. I live in E. Cobb, and I know exactly who and what my "neighbors" are. These people can leave the most uplifting sermon about taking care of the least of these, and drive right by a destitute mother and her kids because they are, after all, welfare scum leeches on the dole.

If anyone wants to know where I developed my "attitude" about white protestant republicans, it is here, in zip 30068. They deserve anthrax.

I have read one of his books; specifically, Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot: and other observations.  It wasn't that funny, and was boring.  Again, Franken is not funny.  He sucks.
