I don't vote for Dems or Repubs for the most part because I don't like their "either, Or" type of thinking.
Now with this term "progressive" you have to be carefull!

"Hey! If we start calling ourselves "progressives" maybe people will listen to us!"
If the *substance* is the same then repackaging the outside is really not going to help much, wouldn't you agree?
I'd hardly call senators Biden, Kennedy or Bird...."progressive", would you?
Then you have the people who make a career by going to or working at colleges and unis who think anything they come up with is,..."progressive."
Those types tend to gravitate to colleges and unis because they don't function well in society otherwise. Also they think they'll have an "audience" in that type of setting.
As for real "comedians" you couldn't beat Rodney Dangerfield.
Or, Jerry Seinfeld, Robert Schimmel, Dennis Miller, Jay Lenop.
Al Franken couldn't shine those guy's shoes.

On the other hand...this Congress is an SNL skit so Franken will feel right at home. You could not make up these characters... Pelosi...Wrangle, Waxman, Barney (the gay caballero) Frank...the rightess dude Chris Dodd, Sen. Byrd..92 but still getting those big bucks for buildings and highways to no where in West Virginia...And in a tie vote...bring on that old rugrat Joe ( I'm just a kid from Scranton) Biden....Yep... Franken will fit right in....

Wow, this thread has really been rocking in the last day.

Re Franken being funny. I do not remember him ever not being funny. My favorite bit was probably when his Stuart interviewed Michael Jordan and tried
to teach him positive affirmations.
I loved Rodney Dangerfield. My friends and I used to make pilgrimages to see Rodney in Las Vegas when he was only playing the Lounge at the Riviera. ( no cover charge even) Rodney and Franken have a huge amount in common in their comedy. BTW Rodney and Lenny Bruce and Mort and Steve...you know, all Franken comedy ancestors... were close friends, flat out Democrats & Liberals from the day they were born. No - if we are choosing up comedy teams - Rodney is on ours. And please take Dennis Miller, good choice.Cable Guy too.

It`s not a race for the comic`s awards.

It`s a Senate race.He doesn`t have to beat Jay Leno.

There`s a thousand jokes and comedy bits that aren`t funny to me.And thousands that are.It`s completely subjective.

Example,Dennis Miller.There`s not a funny thing coming out of him.Poor guy,he`s relegated to playing the court jester for the rightists he`s so lame.Doesn`t mean someone else doesn`t think he`s funny.

Franken has become a millionaire from comedy.And helped start the successful Air America Radio-liberal formatted broadcasts.And may soon win a Senate seat.I`d say that he was pretty successful.

What was that phrase that Reagan stole,?~"Nothing succeeds like success"~ I think it was.

Yeah,that Clinton,misleading about a blowjob.That bastard.And that Bush lied us into Iraq(and destroyed it),sent thousands of our GIs to die(for nothing) and wounded/maimed tens of thousands of our other GIs,spent us into debtor`s prison and killed the economy,Katrina debacle,made Iran the dominant force in the middle east,north Korea,Darfur,Wall Street/corporate theft/zero oversight, which will all take decades to recover from,let bin-laden get away,etc.

He was a primarily a writer in the early days.Not all writers did skits,though he did do a few.He he also had a gig wit Tom Davis,another SNL writer. He had some flops too.

He`s somewhere between the Un-known comic and Richard Prior.
