It is one of those areas where feedback is critical, if there is to be a positive experience- if your partner, dom, etc., is not taking the time to get you into a relaxed and receptive mood, then as I say, you're probably dealing with a sadist, and if you don't have a sado-masochistic understanding, then you may well be in a situation where you'll have to assert yourself.

I generally start with basic anal play with my fingers, etc., and even chicks that freaked out at first ended up craving it - it adds considerably to the total experience, you're missing out if you're ignoring this particular erogenous zone entirely.

Due to the huge amount of psychological baggage, it can also trigger some very intense emotions in some people, and there is potential for some heavy psychological dynamics - again, for others, it just feels really good, which is why I take it slow, test responses, usually my partners let me know if they think I'm not being bold enough, you never know till you try - if you totally aren't into it, then be upfront about it.

For these reasons, rather than the mounting thing, I consider it an area definitely worth exploring - if the hygiene issues bother you, you can fetishize the whole clean up thing, do enemas like the Grahamites, rubber gloves, etc., keep a box of wipes handy so you don't get E. coli all over the place - you might be shocked at how much E. coli you already have floating around the place - ever watch Mythbusters? But I've had partners for whom the possibility of skin infections from other health problems is a serious issue, so developing sound hygienic protocols is always a good idea, even if you like it sloppy.

Oddly, I notice that a lot of sub profiles have enemas as a hard limit, even when they're into anal play - I'm an enema guy particularly, so if any cares to shed light on this I'd be interested.

Amaros, for me the enema thing is a limit because I'm still getting used to having ANYTHING in my ass, let alone water and pressure and having to hold it in for any length of time. I don't know if that's all people, but that's where it stands for me.

I have IBS which will be aggravated by enemas, but any other anal play doesn't seem to impact the condition.

Actually, I meant to say that I'm not an enema guy particularly, the whole thing is just sort of outside my experience, but I have encountered it peripherally from time to time - it would seem to be a fetish that could help those who dislike the smell or worry about the germs to overcome their reticence, and possibly ease some of the fears - it can be a mild form of anal play and presuming you don't go nuts and try to fill somebody up like a balloon, the possibility of causing any damage is minimal.

I mean this is something that a lot of people don't even consider kink, it's practically mainstream.

I honestly believe that while I do enjoy anal play, it's a bit to much for me at this time. Although, I have considered it as a possibility in the future.

I also recognize that there is a safe way to get started and I'm not entirely sure what that entails.
