           Yep.  And it's coming from you.  McCain was the longest of long-shots to begin with.  I don't know anyone who really believed he, or any Republican, was going to take the White House.  This campaign was a lot like rooting for the Seahawks in the Superbowl a few years back.  Maybe the other team's bus will crash.

       Trying to put McC's loss on Palin is bullshit..  It was over when McCain's "cancel the campaign to focus on the bank crisis" strategery blew up in his face.

      Sarah Palin was a hail mary play, but the quarterback got himself sacked.  For those who can see without the hate-glasses, her political rise is a remarkable achievement, and dammit, her instinctive reaction to corruption is something we could use a lot more of in government.

Ummm,McCain won the primary.That how it works here.The one with the most votes,wins.

You guys chose him over the rest,fair and square and freely.

You(your party) chose him b/c you all thought he could win.That`s what primaries are for,vetting and rallying.They`re not for picking the most likely to lose.[:D] I think,anyway.[8D]

If McCain was such a long shot,why did your party pick him? You had Wudy and Mitt.You had the old actor guy and real republican,Ron Paul.

Yet your fellow republicans picked John McCain.

Was that b/c repubs thought was the long shot? Not likely.

They were more or less neck and neck in the polls till Sarah started winking.That`s when the ship started sinking.That`s what all the sorry excuses are for,I`m thinking.[&:]

Archer -> RE: Palins excuses begin (1/9/2009 9:14:02 PM)

McCain was painted into a corner by the religious right (not exactly his strongest proponents) remember when he floated the idea of Liberman as his running mate? The religious community went nuts saying they would stay home if he picked a pro life VP. McCain made a strategy error in my opinion. I think he might have taken enough of the middle without the base had he chosen another moderate as VP. Of course we'll never know. The middle broke left when he picked Palin but he allowed fear of he religious right not showing up at the polls to direct his pick.

        I don't speak for the Republican Party, O59.  ANY Repub was a long shot.

     Crazy concept here.  Try answering the direct question Merc asked you on another thread, whether you think a whole lot more government in your life is a good thing, before you go trying to distract by playing change the subject elsewhere.  I'd be very interested in your thoughtful answer to that.

Just repeating their talking points for fun then?  he-he

Yeah,and I`m a big Palin fan,.....She`s so smart and honest.......[8D]

What Obama`s doing is called leadership.

Perhaps it`s been so long that you`ve seen it,that it`s un-recognizable ?

pssst...bush grew government,spent the poke,broke government and leased our futures,....and has squat to show for it.

Obama`s going to fix bush`s fuck ups and start the turn around.

The cons can call it growing government but I don`t think they know that means or how to define it.Seeing as they haven`t been able to so far.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When will you republicans realize that bush blew the Reagen revolution and all it`s myths?
That party is over and the headache is starting to kick in.
Clinton retired the Times Square dept clock.bush has managed to re-start it in perpetuity.That`s the record.
bush killed any chance that conservative economic theory will ever have legitimacy or serious consideration.Maybe in 20 years when the bush dept is payed off.That is, if the bush dept gets payed off in 20 years.
Have fun defending him till then.I am.
I  think the polls prior to the Palin nomination showed that McCain campaign was really lacking in strong core support that rallied to him big time AFTER Sarah was nominated.  You may recall she brought down the house during the convention and had crowds so lacking for McCain everywhere she went on the campaign trail. Palin scared the hell out of the liberal media and they had to destroy her...she is conservative, pro life, and damn attractive, and adored by the republican core...
It seems we have a very selective, short-term memory being employed here.
She was nominated to fire up the Republican base, as you said.  McCain was within a few points of Obama before her nomination and pulled ahead in many polls after.
Then his campaign staff realized what an idiot old Johnny "shoot from the hip" nominated.  He based his decision on what she could do for his poll numbers without ever really getting to know her (I believe it was stated he only met her once in person beforehand).
So then his campaign did everything they could to muzzle her.  That worked for a short while, and his poll numbers stayed up.  Then came the Couric and Gibson interviews where she made a total fool of herself.  Take note of that last part.  She did it to herself.  She was either totally clueless or totally unprepared for basic questions that she should have expected.
What is the most hilarious is how McCain seems to realize what most of the Palin groupies here fail to grasp.  She cost him any real chance at the Presidency.  Has anyone noticed his pointed lack of support for her since the election?  When he was asked whether he would support a Palin presidential bid in 2012 he side-stepped the question by saying he felt there were many qualified candidates available.
Or how about the many McCain campaign staffers who confided to the press about her numerous intellectual, personality, and character shortcomings in the waning days of the election and since?  Are these more lies made up by a liberal media intent on destroying this bumbling bimbo who seems to have achieved conservative sainthood status?
Ok...so if I understand you correctly, AFTER the positive impact of Sarah Palin on the campaign poll results, insiders in the McCain campaign saw her as an "idiot".... really.??  Tens of thousands of people showed up at
Palin's campaign stops (60,000 in one Florida stop that was not shilled by a rock band or free bratwurst).
The Palin/Biden debate was the highest rated of any other Presidential or Vice-Presidential debate, and it was
generally agreed that Palin held herself dern well with old "let me see if I can put my foot in my mouth again Joe Biden".  It's wierd how liberals use words like "idiot" to describe Palin which, I guess, is something unique to
the gene pool.  There are people who are liberals...and than their are "idiots".  Everyone who disagrees with the failed philosophy of liberalism is deemed an idiot....or whatever, mostly by people who have not had
the "intelligence" and "passion" to get out there and try to make a difference.  The woman is one of 50 people that are governing a State...a club you don't get into because your a legacy...unless, of course, you are a Kennedy. If Palin is an "idiot" how would you describe Carolyn Kennedy, a woman who can't complete an entire sentence?
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=zAgI4AS1NVg
As far as costing McCain a victory, that seems to go against most pundits, including those on CNN, MSNBC..etc who give a lot of the "credit" to McCains defeat to the financial crisis that hit hard in October...The principle reason why people voted for Barack in the primaries and his arguement against Hillory was Iraq...and with the success of the Bush surge that issue fell somewhere below discussions about keeping the bowling alley in the White House or making it a basketball court.  Actually, Hillory was the best of the three finalists and half the people in my family would have probably voted democrat and pulled the lever for Ms. Clinton.  Heck..even I came to admire her real grit and am going to enjoy watching her emasculate Biden over the next four years. Now that is another topic...Joe Biden being a heart beat away from the Presidency..only made more scary when you think that Pelosi is two heart beats away.
Go back and track the poll numbers by date.  His decline in the polls coincided with the "remarkable achiever" opening her mouth and spitting out breathtakingly stupid nonsense.
There was no reason for a "hail mary".  He was doing very well before her nomination.  In fact, I remember you, and several others, boasting of that, and practically claiming victory after her nomination spiked his numbers.  Now you are claiming he was a longshot?
As I recall also, you were one of the people that applauded McCain for the suspension of his campaign for the bailout vote while condemning Obama for not doing the same.
SilverMark -> RE: Palins excuses begin (1/10/2009 4:24:02 AM)
The only thing I have ever found interesting about Sarah Palin....is the reaction to her by others. I personally think she was an absolute horrible choice and in the end not an asset. Her inability to handle even a Katie Couric interview showed she was simply not prepared for the national political scene. McCain couldn't have won no matter who it was he chose due to a number of reasons, but aside from helping him with the rabid Republicans she brought little to the table.She simply is not a national candidate and proved it almost daily. Watching her on the excerpts of the interview that has been released she blames everything on anyone but herself and her inability to deal with the position she accepted, I guess no one ever taught her to be gracious.
Yes...............really.
I know you've seen this, which makes your adulation of this moron all the more amusing, but I thought I would post it just for fun.
Palin's 'going rogue,' McCain aide says - CNN.comWith 10 days until Election Day, long-brewing tensions between GOP vice presidential candidate Gov. Sarah Palin
www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/10/25/palin.tension/
A second McCain source says she appears to be looking
out for herself more than the McCain campaign.
"She is a diva. She takes no advice from anyone," said this McCain adviser. "She does not have any relationships of trust with any of us, her family or anyone else.
"Also, she is playing for her own future and sees herself as the next leader of the party. Remember: Divas trust only unto themselves, as they see themselves as the beginning and end of all wisdom."
It was the highest rated because everyone tuned in for the laughs.  Maybe her true calling is stand-up comedy.
And no, it wasn't generally agreed she held herself "dern" well (dern?).  She didn't make a complete ass of herself as she had done previously, but she wasn't exactly a shining example of analytical thought and intelligence.
She was well-coached on certain expected issues and stuck to her talking points.  Stuck to them like glue, unable to expand on any topic with her own thoughts, just repeating the same phrases she had been trained to say.
What was amazing though, was she actually refused to talk about certain issues she hadn't been coached on, saying she preferred to talk about another issue and then reverted back to her talking points.
No, everyone who disagrees is not.  I've never described McCain as an idiot, because he is not, although I disagree with him on many issues.
The perception of Palin as an idiot didn't come out of thin air.  What's the saying?  Where there's smoke there's fire.
        There is that selective memory at work, RML.  You'll reference something I tossed out when McCain got a solid post-convention bump, and completely forget the link I was running in my sig-line.
       Track the day-to-day?  You have fun with that.
