ORIGINAL: kittinSol Peach, Marseille is the city of my birth, and I was raised with witches reading that deck... I'm affraid I have never looked back from it, but perhaps it's time I did... Possibly. Rider was the first deck I was given, and the one that I learned on. I still have the Marseille deck that dad had when he and mom got married, which was the first deck I ever Saw. Dad gave me the Rider deck to start actually learning on about 2 years after I first saw his Marseille deck, because I continued to express an interest in learning how to read them (mostly cause it was something that I knew would cause my grandmother to blow a gasket and possibly stroke out from sheer outrage at "dabbling with the devil"), but he didn't feel like his old Marseille was the "Right" deck for me. He even made the comment - when he gave me the Rider deck - that I would eventually find the deck that was "meant" for me, because I would feel an immediate connection to it before I ever bought it. He was right - for me, it was Daughters of the Moon, and I didn't actually come across that deck until 4 years ago. I likely won't ever get rid of dad's old Marseille simply for the sentimental value that it continues to hold - but I do Not attempt to do any sort of readings with it, it's symbology simply holds little reference for me. Part of that, though, lies in the individual - much like the your kink ain't my kink but that's ok as long as you don't try to force me to take part in your kink thing. Different decks - and deck styles, and artistic representations of the symbology - are going to suit different people for a lot of different reasons. I've seen some positively INCREDIBLE artwork on some of the decks out there these days, but a lot of it isn't on decks that I would ever actually Use - I'd simply keep them to browse the artwork from time to time if I bought them. I've seen a few decks that had positively horrid artwork that I knew instinctively I could get a good clear reading from - even though the artwork itself made me slightly ill to look at - because the Symbology was clear as day - to me. If the Marseille deck's symbology - moldy as I think it is lol - holds significance and meaning to you..... then... well... it still holds significance and meaning, and therefore should probably not be Lightly tossed aside in favor of something newer, shinier, or more stylish.... unless you yourself are looking for something more up to date and stylish. (That may sound like a joke, but I have an aquaintance here locally who has several decks, and which one she uses depends both on her mood and what "coordinates" with her personal style for that day! She's something of a would-be fashionista.)
