....evidently not.  Wishing harm on thousands of your contrymen and women to make a partisan political point certainly isn't charming. It's something else but the word escapes me right now...

I can only hope Obama has another crisis like 9/11.  And then we'll see if he cowars like Clinton did.

Edited before my ass gets handed to me

*Face palm*

With any luck, your requested attack will be a small car that comes crashing through your living room, and not massive planes taking out chunks of NY and 3000 people.

Actually, what Sepphora said was that she hoped that Obama has another crisis LIKE 9/11.  That is not hoping for an exact replication of  9/11.  I could be wrong and I am not her but I would be willing to bet that Sepphora is stating that she doesn't feel that Obama...nor any of those who've chided Bush so vehemently for his handling of everything, INCLUDING 9/11...could've, or will when given the chance, handled the situation any better.

And your jumping on the one point that stood out to you most...a, perhaps poorly-worded, statement about 9/11 is evident of the left's tendency to get quite stringent on verbiage---rather than the point of the OP---when a view is expressed by anyone other than someone on their side of the forum.  I've seen you do it before, Philosopher...and kittin also...so I'm not even going to bother hanging around for the picking of the nits that is going to happen on this thread.

I hadn't realized that wishing 3,000 people dead was a nit.

MissSepphora1 -> RE: Just out of curiousity (1/20/2009 1:42:18 PM)

What I'm saying is this:

It seems like in 8 years of total saftey in the US, people have forgotten attacks on us by radical muslims, and have decided to play partisan politics by attacking each other.

It's sad really.  I'd like to see ANYONE do any better than Bush did.  8 years of no attacks versus what Carter, Reagan, and Clinton did to make us safer.

All three presidents experienced terror attacks, and they continued even after those presidents were gone.

ONLY BUSH has stopped them.

And everyone is pissed.  Boohoo!!!

How many Americans died in terrorist attacks before Bush?
And how many died in terrorist attacks since 9/11.

I would think his record speaks for itself.
And if anyone would like to go BACK to the pre Bush terror attacks, I think they should nominate their own towns for attacks FIRST.

Mercnbeth -> RE: Just out of curiosity (1/20/2009 1:57:13 PM)

Having lived through it first hand, the thought of wishing anything similar on any part of the country, under any conditions, is disgusting and inconceivable, regardless of who is the President, or who controls Congress. As much of the bad will and name calling that has come from those without the mental capacity to debate any other way; NOBODY should have to live through any 9/11 type occurrence.

I take 59's, and others focus on President Bush as speaking to their projected expectations for the new President. Comparing to a bad example, or worse needing one, points to how they feel about the upcoming years. Instead of just discounting it out of hand, it needs to be put out there often to to make those low expectations and failures deemed successes. How refreshing to just take a deep breath and say 'wow - glad that's behind us.'; similar to the 1981 inauguration. I keep in mind that each and every time someone brings up Bush that it only points to the low expectations of President Obama's Administration. When I hear a reply of "He's not as bad as Bush" - I know the debate is won. The comment says more of Obama than Bush.

Do I think President Obama will be successful - no. Do I wish him harm - no. Today's "Hosanna, Hosannas" notwithstanding, the man looked scared to me. I hope for his sake it's just the chill.

I'm choosing to hang my hat on one piece of rhetoric that he said; "If a program doesn't work it will be cut." Hell - that should make for a lot of free office space in Washington. That said however, how is does his call for each of us being personally accountable for our actions reconcile with him signing over another $300 Billion over to failures?

The other thing I like - he used a Republican Bible - Not that I could give a damn about the Republicans or the Bible - but it may be fun to point out to some over the course of the next few days. Oh yeah kids, especially from the public school systems, Lincoln was a Republican.

Ciao!

If only he would've stopped the death toll from his unjustified war....then maybe i would drink the flavor-ade.

Actually, i don't hate Pres. Bush.  i think he's a flawed imperfect person... like the rest of us.  However, i hate the impact that many of his administration's policies have had on theis country, and the world.  In the end....G-d will have to decide how he pays for that, so i don't need to worry or waste positive energy bashing the man.  i pity him.

DomKen -> RE: Just out of curiousity (1/20/2009 2:22:25 PM)

Terror attacks by Al Qaeda and related groups since 9/11 (none of which were stopped by GWB):
Madrid train bombings
Bali nightclub bombings
2006 Mumbai train bombing
2008 Mumbai attacks
attempted shoe bombing of airliner
2005 London bombings
10/18/07 attack on Benazir Bhutto
Assasination of Benazir Bhutto
Numerous attacks in Iraq with a total death toll far exceeding the death toll on 9/11 including well in excess of 1000 US citizens.
Numerous attacks in Afghanistan with a total death toll far exceeding the death toll on 9/11.

I am guilty of "conflation" on the Israel/gaza thread.  I'm probably as far to the "left" as anyone on these forums. [8D] I just happen to be on the opposite side of the issue.  Were my accusers in agreement with me, I can almost guarantee I wouldn't have heard a peep.

Is Conflation a misdemeanor or a felony? [sm=banana.gif][sm=banana.gif][sm=banana.gif]

MissSepphora1 -> RE: Just out of curiousity (1/20/2009 2:23:37 PM)

Why don't you share with us how you would have handled 9/11 then.
Would you have just shrugged it off like it was no big deal?
Continued on with life the way it was, and hope it didn't happen again?

I hadn't realized that wishing 3,000 people dead was a nit.

You are engaging in the "false cause" fallacy.
The notion that there have been no further terrorist atrocities because of Bush is completely wrong.

It's because of the magic quartz crystal I have in my backyard.

slaveluci -> RE: Just out of curiousity (1/20/2009 2:26:06 PM)

No, but we could have at least gone after the culprits actually responsible for it instead of Saddam Hussein/Iraq when there was no established link to him/them ever.  That would've been a good start[8|].............luci

I noticed that he did sneak quietly away.  Off topic. I want to know why they let him carry all of that paperwork away. Dosen't that belong to the people.
You didn't think he should leave the evidence behind did yah?!     But seriously, we should let him retire quietly, because he looks totally stressed out.    M

Stressed out? Hahahahaha

"
"Bush on track to become the vacation president," Julie Mason headlined in the August 9, 2007, edition of the Houston Chronicle:[1]

"On Thursday, Bush left for a weekend in Kennebunkport, Maine, and his family's summer compound, Walker's Point. On Monday, he heads to his Crawford retreat, where he has spent all or part of 418 days of his presidency, according to Mark Knoller, a CBS News White House correspondent and meticulous record-keeper.

"...The presidential vacation-time record holder is the late Ronald Reagan, who tallied 436 days in his two terms. At 418 days, and with 17 months to go in his presidency, Bush is going to beat that easily."
"I guess you could look at it this way -- the more he's on vacation, the less damage he can do to the country," Pam Spaulding wrote August 12, 2007.[2] "

I'll bet he beat Reagan's record. Slacker.

lronitulstahp -> RE: Just out of curiousity (1/20/2009 2:29:24 PM)

i would've gone after Al Quaida, and it's known leaders....not spent upwards of
$3 Trillion on a war with a country that had nothing to do with the Sept 11th attacks....other than that, i suppose i am not really experienced enough to know what to do.  But i wasn't elected President...another thing i have in common with Bush at that time, i suppose

kittinSol -> RE: Just out of curiousity (1/20/2009 2:31:49 PM)

It's healthy to say goodbye to Bush and his cronies and to sigh with relief that his despicable debacle is finally over. It's also healthy to stay mindful of history and to not forget. Bush is history, and let's not forget his legacy. We have to live with it after all. I wonder to what degree some people would like for the rest of us to stop talking about Bush because it makes them uncomfortable?

gee...thats just swell. How many would have to lose their lives in the crisis she is hoping for...just to prove herself right?

Personally i hope to NEVER see how Obama handles a crisis like that.
