I feel your joy and I share it.
To most of us, it is a big deal.
If it is not a big deal {to some of you}, so be it.
I feel the love!
It is obvious that millions of people around the world, feel it also.
HISTORY HAS BEEN MADE!
That is enough!

Nope, not Obamarized today.  He's not the Messiah, he's the President.  Big difference to me, but it's not to a lot of people.

I've looked forward to each inauguration of new presidents that I've witnessed.  I've always been ready at the end of the term for a new person to be in charge, having been disillusioned by each of the ones who'd been in power, from Bush Sr., to Clinton to GWB.  I'm hopeful, but I have no idea what I'm hanging that hope on since Obama really hasn't told me what he's going to do yet.  But he gives a good motivational speech, and it is nice to see so many folks happy.  That's the pollyanna in me.

On the other hand, the god-awful, gut-churning, obsequious, fawning coverage by the networks has gotta go.  I had to listen to Mark Levin for 5 minutes tonight just to get some balance back.    (then had to change the radio because I'm not into haters of any ilk.)

Of course his race should have nothing to do with his job performance, him being black or white does not affect his ability as a President. But it is still such an amazing thing to see a black man becoming the President of the United States. I mean, think of how HUGE of a step that is from the days of slavery. It's something I think everyone should be proud of -- not in the sense of "oh lookie we elected a black man to do this, let's pat ourselves on the back," but in the sense that society has advanced to the point where Barack Obama can be the President.

Nope.  I was annoyed by the pretentious, feel good nonsense from the speakers.
Someone get this man a drink, and maybe a blowjob if any of you girls around here feel charitable, I command!    We are supposed to be our brother's keeper, and he sounds like he's in need.    Too cute to remain so angry I feel.   It's bad for one's health.    M

When watching the inaguration today, I im my girlfriend and said to here; "for some reason all these people reminded me of Woodstock".

Hmmmmm... the whole crowd was stoned and passing around joints???  Damn!  I guess I actually DID miss something by not turning on the TV, just like I've stringently avoided watching every inaguration since I was old enough to know what was on.

More then one way to get high, there is the natural way:)

Very well said!
Anyone of any race can be President of the United States.
THAT is the point, and if ya don't get it, ya just don't get it.
It's sad that anyone should have to explain to any adult why electing our first Black President is a big deal.
Barack Obama can be and is President!

The pragmatic response from an 'Obamarized' economy:

quote:

Jan. 20 (Bloomberg) -- U.S. stocks sank, sending the Dow Jones Industrial Average to its worst Inauguration Day decline, as speculation banks must raise more capital sent financial shares to an almost 14-year low.
The S&P 500 plunged 5.3 percent to 805.22. The S&P 500 Financials Index fell 17 percent to below its lowest closing level since March 1995 as concern European banks need more capital also weighed on the group. The Dow average slid 332.13 points to 7,949.09. Both the Dow and S&P 500 retreated to two- month lows.

Soooooooooooooo..........................................on the day the man finally, officially takes office he is responsible for a market decline.  In a stock market that has been so volatile that any slight breeze has seen it go from record gains to record losses in one day.

Merc, the stocks have been in the toilet for the past 5 months.
Please don't attempt to blame President Obama for a market that was already crashing.
I fully expect the market to get closer to 7000 before it really goes up.

America has been in the loo for almost 2 years, don't blame President Obama.
Sorry he does not have a magic wand.
Most of us realize things will get worse before they get better.

Well, you've bought into "things will get worse". It's a smart campaign move - how can you complain when they do? However, now that he's President I would hope he would do his best to NOT come though on that promise - don't you? I also don't think they have to get worse, but why should he bother trying if he already has the majority accepting that they will.

Frankly, I don't understand the emotional investment in a politician whether good for Obama or bad for Bush. It blurs your vision to the realities around you; like this one. However in the future you should take care to point to any 'downturn' or negative event and say it was at least 3 years in the past. Two years opens up the possibility of Democratic oversight to the current problem and you could end up being labeled a heretic for pointing out facts like that.

The Wall Street result speaks to the lack of confidence the people who have the ability and resource to make a positive impact have on an Obama Administration. That should concern you. Never before has a President taken office without even a cursory upturn in the stock market.

No doubt that the country is Obamarized today. CM certainly is; how many times before would multiply threads on the same subject be pulled, yet today - it's five threads and counting on the inaugural. Agenda or Obamarized - it is what it is.

I think its good to have this day as a benchmark to remember when reality replaces the rhetoric. There are too many 'good old boys' (and girls) appointed in the Administration to generate anything other than more of the same. There is no way President Obama can obtain or placate all the people all he has promised. There certainly is no money to pay for them for sure.

Enjoy - don't let me, or any pragmatic application of 'projecting out' programs, be a fly in the ointment.

Congrats on your happiness, MzMia!!!

this slave is skeptical, but promises to be officially Obamarized if/when he makes good on just this ONE statement he made during his campaign:

"I would not have the Justice Department prosecuting and raiding Medical Marijuana users.  It is not a good use of our resources."

an end to THAT nonsense would be enough to make this slave believe he walks on water!!!
think he will really do it?

You know what?
You don't HAVE to understand why many of us are so happy!
To each their own!

I don't spend my life trying to figure out why or why not others are happy.
Let me get back to celebrating.

You know something that blew me away when I thought about it?

Barack Obama debated with Hillary Clinton, John Edwards, then John McCain, fighting for the most powerful job in the world. He won...

Then Bush sits down with Obama and does everything he can to make the transition as smooth as he can...

Then an estimated two million people show up to see Obama's inauguration. No riots.  Obama is sworn in by a Supreme Court justice that disagrees with him politically...

And nothing happens. Changing power from one administration to another, smoothly handing over control to an opposition party. No violence, nothing but civility throughout.

This is one of the times I love this country.

I don't know.

Picture a funny little mustache on Dubya and there's a remarkable resemblance to Der Fuhrer.

I'm afraid that I did NOT get Obamarized today, dear MzMia .. I got Obamarized about a year ago and it never wore off. That said, for some reason, right after I got teary-eyed watching the swearing in, I felt like singing "Ding Dong the Witch is dead" from the Wizard of Oz.

DS, thank you for vocalizing what it was that I enjoyed about today - I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but you put it so well.

Okay, I realize many of us are in the "Honeymoon period".

Indeed.

Some are.

He's the President.

There were many before him, hopefully there will be many after him.

Tomorrow's Wednesday.

Sorry, President Obama can no longer hide behind his PE tag. He's it right now. The part you may have glossed over - " worst Inauguration Day decline,"

Were there any confidence, the people with the money and ability to give him an inaugural day respite from this headline could have and would have done so.

I thought today was "earth moving!" "life changing!" "uplifting!" and all the other accolades that can fit in a headline. Now today, it couldn't even generate a "slight (positive) breeze" on Wall Street? Wow - it is surprising to see so little faith in the promise of 'change'.
