No - He took an oath, I won't criticize the manner in which he did.
I only refer to results and it's place in history. The day was historical in more ways than one.

Of course he did, President Obama is to blame for everything wrong in the world!
He especially is to blame for everything that Bush did for the last 8 years!

Did you buy a T-shirt and hat, today?
How is he going to attend 10 balls tonight?

Of course his race should have nothing to do with his job performance, him being black or white does not affect his ability as a President. But it is still such an amazing thing to see a black man becoming the President of the United States. I mean, think of how HUGE of a step that is from the days of slavery. It's something I think everyone should be proud of -- not in the sense of "oh lookie we elected a black man to do this, let's pat ourselves on the back," but in the sense that society has advanced to the point where Barack Obama can be the President.

I personally believe that has been possible during most of my entire lifetime (I'm 50).

We simply haven't had a black man of his caliber until today to vote for. He won because he was the better choice...black or white.

Had he run in 1980, he would have had just as much opportunity (however, Reagan would have likely trounced him).

Here's an intriguing thought however....(one I'm confident I'll get lambasted for).

Had 95% of whites voted for McCain (as 95% of blacks did for Obama), the newspapers would have been printing their dailies on overtime to discuss how racist that was.

How come no one mentions how racist it was for 95% of blacks to have voted for Obama?

Slaveboy,
You are on a roll tonight, man.  I just laughed so hard I was choking.  You oughtta be a stand-up comedian.  I am happy and proud and full of hope today (but not quite "Obamarized").  I'm hopeful but realistic.  I missed the "yellow man, red man" speech as I was working but that does sound messed up.  Just lovin' your sense of humor tonight.  Are you drinking?

luci

Hey there, lucilicious,

We were watching CNN Live from our computer at work.  It was really cool because as people would walk by, they would stop and stay, and pretty soon there was a small crowd of people who didn't even know each other, all gathered around and feeling hopeful, joking with each other, and soaking it in.

Re: that "If yer yellow...you be mellow" (or something like that) speech, it was meant to be silly and funny.  Obama was laughing, the preacher was grinning, and we were all cracking up.  He was bringing levity to an otherwise emotionally intense day, and people took it in stride.

Because 90% of blacks usually vote for the Democratic Presidential candidate anyway.  In this particular election, Obama cleaned up among blacks and Hispanics.  The GOP leaders are very concerned about losing those demographics, as well as the youth.

Well if Hillary had won the Democratic nomination pretty sure 95% of blacks would have voted for her too. In '92, her husband got about 90% of the black vote...86% in 96.  Jimmy Carter won the black vote too.  Traditionally, Blacks tend to vote Democratic...so the results being due to race are a bit skewed.

Of course one could suppose that the reason for the decline is that the stock market people  realise that they may not have their bottomless purses for very much longer, and have nothing to be happy about with someone who gives a damn about being screwed in the ass by money men/women
It couldnt have anything to do with worries deeper more banking crisies?

I think give the guy a chance, I mean I know that many people do not agree with his policies but this is where the problem with democracy comes in. If someone is a republican (conservative) they will disagree with everything that a democrat (christ what is our eqivalant I guess labour) says not because its wrong just because of their affiliation.

You know he has been shoved into a bloody terrible global economic crisis caused by some horrific choices made by past governements and shady dealings. It isnt going to get better over night and that wouldnt change no matter which political party was in charge. Why not actually see what he does before hanging him up as a failure? Surely to blame him for the economy would be as stupid as blaming brown for it (though people still are)

Rather than judging his political slant judge his actions.

Merc, the stocks have been in the toilet for the past 5 months.
Please don't attempt to blame President Obama for a market that was already crashing.
I fully expect the market to get closer to 7000 before it really goes up.

America has been in the loo for almost 2 years, don't blame President Obama.
Sorry he does not have a magic wand.
Most of us realize things will get worse before they get better.

Well, you've bought into "things will get worse". It's a smart campaign move - how can you complain when they do? However, now that he's President I would hope he would do his best to NOT come though on that promise - don't you? I also don't think they have to get worse, but why should he bother trying if he already has the majority accepting that they will.

Frankly, I don't understand the emotional investment in a politician whether good for Obama or bad for Bush. It blurs your vision to the realities around you; like this one. However in the future you should take care to point to any 'downturn' or negative event and say it was at least 3 years in the past. Two years opens up the possibility of Democratic oversight to the current problem and you could end up being labeled a heretic for pointing out facts like that.

The Wall Street result speaks to the lack of confidence the people who have the ability and resource to make a positive impact have on an Obama Administration. That should concern you. Never before has a President taken office without even a cursory upturn in the stock market.

No doubt that the country is Obamarized today. CM certainly is; how many times before would multiply threads on the same subject be pulled, yet today - it's five threads and counting on the inaugural. Agenda or Obamarized - it is what it is.

I think its good to have this day as a benchmark to remember when reality replaces the rhetoric. There are too many 'good old boys' (and girls) appointed in the Administration to generate anything other than more of the same. There is no way President Obama can obtain or placate all the people all he has promised. There certainly is no money to pay for them for sure.

Enjoy - don't let me, or any pragmatic application of 'projecting out' programs, be a fly in the ointment.

Oh  good grief lets do tell it like it is........................you live to be the fly in the ointment.  Anything positive is a magnet for your black hole of negativity pragmatism. But hey, at least we don't ever have to worry about your vision being blurred to any positive reality around  you.

Were there any confidence, the people with the money and ability to give him an inaugural day respite from this headline could have and would have done so.

I thought today was "earth moving!" "life changing!" "uplifting!" and all the other accolades that can fit in a headline. Now today, it couldn't even generate a "slight (positive) breeze" on Wall Street? Wow - it is surprising to see so little faith in the promise of 'change'.

Well, let's be serious here.

Your own link attributed the decline to fears over the need for banks to raise more capital.

In a normal economy there might be a surge in the market.  This is not a normal economy, courtesy of the man who is letting the door hit him in the ass on the way out.

Hi Mike :-) . I tried to discern your face from the multitude of happy revellers on the television but missed you - I did think of you, and hope (know) it was wonderful :-) .

I hope he is remembered for far more than simply his skin color in history. Hopefully in 4 years his skin color won't matter because his actions in office will far outweigh his being black.

I honestly cannot get excited or feel today is this great day, because to me, today is the beginning -- 4 years down the road is when history will be made -- good or bad and skin color won't filter into it.

Well, whether you like it or not, and whether others like it or not, Obama's colour is a first - therefore, without a precedent - something that will go down in history, on the records, as something amazing, a landmark for a generation; and his election, and his inauguration, will be remembered in part because of this factor you judge irrelevant and without importance. Also, remember this: for his skin colour to become little more than a detail, this country will have to ensure it's not the last time it elects a black president.

Ummm...Obama poops, burps and farts just like you and....I would say me, but I don't do those things.
He's not a God.  He will fuck up just like every other politician.  He owes too much to too many people to do the right thing.  It just won't happen.  He will sell the American people down the river.
Damn...full of cliches tonight.  I must be frustrated....friggin Wind.

+1 on what slaveboyforyou said.

Obama's record-breaking $600 million campaign was paid for, in large part, by the financial industry. He was put in place to keep order among the newly impoverished hoi-polloi so that they--we--won't burn stuff while the financiers continue looting the treasury, which they began doing on the watch of their other friend Dubya.
