I want to make it from scratch , and I like the nacho cheese stuff and other flavors, but when I've looked online, the recipe's all have stuff in it I don't want, that wouldn't be authentic to hamburger helper, like tomato's, and garlic.

What about just reading the ingredients on a box of Hamburger Helper and making up a recipe from that?

Hamburger helper to me tastes like beef, cream of mushroom soup, and egg noodles.

I guess if you want garlic, mince some up and put it in there too. O.o

Usually when you cook from scratch, a common goal is to NOT end up tasting like it came out of a box.

That'd tell you the main ingredients I guess, but some of that stuff I have no clue what it is, and couldn't even begin to guess lol. I still need a recipe to tell me how much of this and how much of that to put in.

Well, I want it to have the nummy ummy taste I love and yes I do think boxed hamburger helper is nummy ummy,  but  not much  of the salt and the junk and crap boxed stuff comes with.

Lots of salt. Which is why I hate it and it is bad for you.........too much salt.

I would go with valveta cheese... sorry about the spelling... I don't use the stuff.  Or a box of creamy mac and cheese, add burger, season to taste.

Urm garlic is a flavour not needed to make the product, just like salt, so follow the instructions but dont put in garlic. Simple

Mac and cheese from the box is very bad for you too.

But Daddy does have a mac and cheese recipe from scratch, and we could probably use the cheese sauce from that recipe an put it together with the hamburger.

Start with the main ingredients, and see how it tastes without a lot of seasonings. Next time you make it, add a spice or two. Experiment. After you've made it 4 or 5 times, you should be able to dial in a pretty good recipe. Are you comfortable enough in the kitchen that you feel confident trying that approach?

Most Hamburger Helper has garlic and tomato  < dried or sauce > in it. that is why the recipes include it.

Do you like the Hamburger Helper Stoganoff ?
Here is a healthier version, that tastes just as good.

1 lb hamburger or Turkey Burger
1 can Campbells Healthy Request Creme of Mushroom soup
2 TBSP Kithchen Bouquet browning Sauce
1 Tbsp Maggi Seasoning Sauce < Jugo Sazonador>
2 Cups cooked egg noodles.

Brown Hamburger/ Turkey Burger in skillet,   drain grease
Add soup, and both seasoning sauces and simmer about 20 minutes, stirring frequently.
Stir in cooked egg noodles and serve.

I add sliced fresh mushroom when I am simmering. It's optional.

Hamburger Helper sucks.  Now Tuna Helper is a bachelor's best friend.

indeed!!!  here's an even better idea:

make deep fried oreo's instead!  they are delicious!!!

  • 1 cup buttermilk pancake mix
  • 3/4 cup ice water
  • 1 quart vegetable oil
  • 1 sleeve of Oreo cookies (14 each)
  • 2 tablespoons confectioners sugar

    Directions

    1. Freeze cookies for 3 hours.

    2. In a heavy-gauge 3-quart saucepot heat oil to 350 degrees F.

    3. While oil is heating, set up a sheetpan with paper towels for draining.

    4. In a medium-sized mixing bowl stir water into buttermilk pancake mix with a wooden spoon until thoroughly combined. As soon as batter is smooth, dip each cookie, one at a time, into batter and smooth batter, making a thin coat completely around the cookie. Place coated cookie carefully into hot oil. Repeat for each cookie. Fry on both sides, turning over once until golden brown.

    5. Remove fried cookie from hot oil with metal tongs and drain on paper towels. Dust with confectioners sugar.

    6. Let cool slightly (about 2 minutes) before serving.

Yeah, I can do that. I'll try it with cheese sauce, made strait from home, the hamburger, and something for crunch. Then we'll see what needs tweaking, and other spices and stuff we could add.

Daddy likes taco seasoning, maybe I'll split a little off and make some with taco seasoning for Daddy.

Can I switch out cream of mushroom for cream of chicken, since I don't like mushrooms nor cream of mushroom soup?

While fried oreo's sound nummy, I am staying away from all forms of sweets I can easily  recognize, no cookies, no cakes, no pies no doughnuts, no nothing like that.
