slaveboyforyou -> Name for a cat...... (2/24/2009 7:22:15 PM)

My aunt called from Alabama and said her and my uncle found a stray cat.  They took it to the vet, and the vet told them it was a Maine Coon Cat.  I find that odd in Alabama; but never the less, I defer to the vet's knowledge.  She was fishing for names.  When I think Maine Coon cat, I think Maine.  When I think Maine, I think New England.  When I think New England, I think Moby Dick.  So my suggestion was, "Ishmael."  I thought it was cute.  She wrote it down on a list she's gathering.

Opinions?  Suggested names?  It should be a fun thread for cat lovers, or lovers of naming things in general.

aravain -> RE: Name for a cat...... (2/24/2009 7:25:13 PM)

is it a boy cat or a girl cat?

slaveboyforyou -> RE: Name for a cat...... (2/24/2009 7:27:08 PM)

Well I suggested Ishmael.....so it's either a male cat or a FtM trannie cat.  [8D]

My cat's name is Peter. We asked him if he wanted to be named Peter and he meowed. So that was that.

I just picked up a stray of my own today so I'm also in the market for a name as well and ummmm I don't have any suggestions. But I think I'll live with this girl for a week or so and wait for her name to come to me. I can't use the meowing trick because this one never shuts up.

I hadn't thought of Eniam.  I googled it; it's apparently a popular name for Coon Cats.  I don't know about the personality; they just found it a week ago.  It's a male, of course.  Shit, I wish we could post photos here.  It has a black face with white chin, black/brown body, and white paws and belly.

They're apparently very big and furry, and are various colors.

A timely thread...my 19 year old cat (the best fucking cat ever) is being put down tomorrow because he has extensive cancer of the mouth.
Fred is a great name.

LOL, Chowdah would be awesome!  It made me laugh just reading that.  I don't know if my aunt would go for it though.

We have one indoor cat, a Tom named Motty, and two semi feral cats names Stripey and Fuzzball.

Yeah, no - I didn't name them.

You could post a picture of the cat on your profile.

Aw... Aileen, he is a real old timer.  It is a testimony to your love and care that he lived so long.  You have my condolences.

scarlethiney -> RE: Name for a cat...... (2/24/2009 7:40:02 PM)

My first and only kitty was a rescue. She was a tiny, tuxedo, orange tabby and loved to hide in my sneakers where I left them by the laundry room door off the kitchen as I came in in the evenings. Her favorite past time was jumping out at me as I passed her with my first cup of coffee in the mornings scaring the crap and several years of life out of me. I named her "Sneaker" because even after she was too big to sit inside my sneakers she would lay on them or scrunch down beside them laying in wait for me.
I like your name and would probably call him or her Ishy for short.

True Ven, but it would take forever to approve it.  It's one of the reasons I don't change my photo regularly.
