I skimmed down thru this thread, read many of the posts. I come away with the same impression I always do when I read attacks on Rush: most of his attackers concentrate on the personal (he's fat, was addicted to painkillers, whatever), or his style. Few have much experience with the actual show; fewer attack his positions with any degree of specificity; fewer still attack his overall philosophy. Plus ca change...

specficity?....He wants the President of the United States to fail and has said so loudly!....Specifically I disagree with his rather asinine opinion!....specifically....his loud and obnoxious ways are irritating and he pisses people off so bad with the way he says things it takes little to dislike anything else about him. The reaction he brings is exactly what he wants and it is ridiculous to give him the satisfaction of all of the free publicity.
As for the rest....tough to feel sorry for him when he is as pompous as he is, even for the drug addiction issues...his
obesity is far too easy to take a shot at.....how could anyone miss?.....

There was nothing specific about his policy that you attacked.  You just said his opinion is asinine, which is far from specific or intelligent,  he's obnoxious (personality issue),  loud (personality issue).  As for wanting the president to fail, while I'm no fan of seeing the nation go down, if you completely disagree with someone in control you want to see their plans fail proving you right...where is the issue here?

HE WANTS THE PRESIDENT TO FAIL!....how much more do you need to see specificity?....or is it just too deep a statement for you?....
the rest was editorializing on MY part....you remember the right to express one's opinion?...I am sure you have heard of it somewhere? As for intelligent allow me to remind you....just to make it clear for you...in simple terms....HE WANTS THE PRESIDENT TO FAIL....asnine.....

End of conservatism? No.

But they'll be in for another 40 year stretch as the minority. Thats been witnessed before.  Do you think you will still be around to see the coming of the next republican trifecta?

I hope to live to see the first conservative trifecta.

I dunno.

Why has Barbara Streisand and Jane Fonda been given such influence on the Democratic Party?

Firm

Um, they don't.

You won't find any democrats calling them "liberal leaders".

You won't have any leading Democratic party members bending over for Jane Fonda at her whim.

No, they pretty much reserve that for G Soros, abortionists, and gun-grabbers.

It is to laugh.

As far as Newt... when did his opinion matter to you?   I too am eager for Obama to fail. The sooner the better, so that there is less statism to clean up after...  Rush is against socialism; P-Huss is for it. Rush wants him/it to fail. So do I. So, apparently does Mr Steele, after his little trip to the woodshed.
I'd replace him.

Of course you would prefer not to point out the rational critisms and focus on the name calling.Of course.....

Being that Rush is calling good folks all kinds of horrible names daily ,kinda makes your point moot though.

And this thread is about Steele`s name calling, not the public`s.

"Being that Rush is calling good folks all kinds of horrible names daily ,kinda makes your point moot though. "

That proves my point that most of his detractors know him only by the accusations of others. That charge is completely unsupportable.

It's a simple thing, really, and not at all asinine. If you believe, as do I, that socialism is evil, you are for the failure of Pres Hussein.

Ok...let's stick to his positions: I have a great problem with the fact that Rush is a liar of the first order: What lies has he told?

For example, on June 9, Rush pontificated : one of the things that -- that the -- the AIDS activists said regularly back then was, oh, this is only a matter of time before it spreads to the heterosexual community. And of course it -- it hasn't. It -- it didn't, and it hasn't, other than in Africa, and in Africa it is -- it is being spread not just by -- it -- it -- it's promiscuity that -- that -- that spreads this, if you want to know the truth. It's promiscuity.
How wonderful that Mr. Limbaugh values his self-avowed homphobia more than getting accurate information out to the listeners. The rate of AIDS infection are growing in heterosexual communities far faster than in the homosexual community.

Last week, for another example, Mr. Limbaugh made the claim that the National Organization of Women supported a Muslim doctor in Buffalo for beheading his wife because it was merely a matter of "cultural diversity"....The head of NOW was quick to point out that the organization strongly disapproved of beheading women in all cases.

How about his claim that "No one ever claimed that Iraq had anything to do with the 9-11 attack?" that is revisionist history at it's finest.

In short, I have no more objection to the nonsense and falsehoods that Mr. Limbaugh bases his career upon....any more than I object to the stuff that Howard Stern builds his career upon. But I don't think either of them need to be taken very seriously.

How's that for sticking to the issues?

MasterShake69 -> RE: Limbaugh's latest attacker: RNC's Steele (3/8/2009 5:51:36 PM)

When a liberal pokes fun at another liberal it’s usually for disappointing them and not lampooning them.  How many years did it take the media to finally make fun of Bill Clinton for something other than his weight and his love of McDs ;)  I think it was his 2nd term.

How long will it take the media to make fun of Obama the same way they would with any republican??? SNL seems to be focusing their attacks on republicans in congress.  Ignoring the simple fact that democrats control both houses in congress.  ANd republicans are powerless to stop them.

Oh on Mahers show,  Bill Maher is typically the conservative on the show ;)
thats how far to teh left its moved since leaving comedy central to HBO.

hmmm .... Stephen Colbert .... Bill Maher ... John Stewart .... George Carlin ...

Why no outrage when they do (did, in Carlin's case) the same?

Firm

Because none purport themselves to be anything but comedians.

Because the Democratics have never proclaimed any of them to be political "leaders" as Steele did.

Because while Colbert and Stewart are liberally slanted they also poke fun at Democrats, including Obama.

Maher has his roots as a comedian though his shows are more serious.  But even he makes an effort to include at least one or two conservative panelists on every show.

If you want to say Limbaugh is a comedian or entertainer I have no problem with what he says.

When people start taking him seriously and calling him a conservative leader then I think the Republicans have some serious issues.

It IS his middle name, DC.  I've heard it was given to him by someone who never thought he would grow up to become President...

There is a great danger for the Democats in making Rush, Hannity, and the rest of the mattress marketing talking heads the banner carriers of the Republican party.  If Obama blows it, if he winds up with approval numbers that make Bush II look good, then their platform will be the one that carries in the day in '12.

True, but I think "President Hussein" is a tad juvenile.

MasterShake69 -> RE: Limbaugh's latest attacker: RNC's Steele (3/8/2009 6:09:32 PM)

Bye bye Dl.  Oh I like how Dl tried to get Jamie Farr to say how negatively Muslims are portrayed on TV and movies and that it’s racist. I wonder why DL never mentioned how Tom Clancy’s book was changed for the movie.  By having Ben Aflack fight Neo Nazis instead of Muslim terrorists with nukes.  We all know how much neo Nazis are trying to get their hands on the Bomb ;)

http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0903/07/dlh.01.html

FARR: My parents weren't around, D.L. My dad had passed away and that. And I -- there was a very fine writer by the name of Jack Shaheen. And he was insulted by my playing the role that way, and I could understand if you're sensitive about it. But then when I was doing "Guys and Dolls" on Broadway and "True Lies" came out, some people asked me to go and picket the movie, and I said, I can't do that. Does art imitate life? Meaning this if there are Arab terrorists, they are doing certain things. You certainly can't make the characters Norwegian.

http://blogs.ajc.com/radio-tv-talk/2009/03/06/36-weekend-mash-with-dl-hughley-frank-caliendo/

CNN’s attempt at a humorous news show starring comic D.L. Hughley is ending at the end of the month. Hughley apparently wanted to move the show to Los Angeles and CNN deemed it too cost prohibitive.

This thread just keeps going on and on with no expected value other than a vent space for so many.  Maybe we need a "Vent" icon so we know that this is just a bunch of people blowing off steam and hatred so perhaps they won't kick the dog.

I originally posted this just because I thought the irony was funny, but I think it has become more serious after Steele's apology.

Do you not see it is a little scary that someone who makes his living off of sensationalism is granted this much respect by one of our two major political parties?

Rush Limbaugh gets apology from GOP chairman -- Newsday.comTwo days after calling Rush Limbaugh a mere "entertainer" with an "incendiary" talk show, Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele apologized and acknowledged the radio commentator as a "national conservative leader."

Steele made the original comments in an interview with D.L. Hughely on CNN.

People taking D.L. Hughely seriously is as big a joke as people taking Rush seriously, but can you imagine the conservative uproar if the DNC chairman called Hughely a national liberal leader?

Oh, I don't think it ever stopped being "fair game" for some of our posters. But that doesn't change the fact that it's a juvenile nickname. Of course, that may be part of its appeal in some circles.
